Paulette's, which has been operating successfully in Memphis for 37 years, recently moved its popular, award winning operation to the River Inn. "We first dined at Paulette's when we moved to Memphis in 1987 and they were in a charming house in Overton Square. We left Memphis in 1996 and didn't have opportunity to return until recently. The new location on Mud Island is just as charming. The menu has some of our old favorites (Filet Paulette, Chicken Brochettes, K-Pie, Crepes with various accompaniaments, and the popovers with strawberry butter - to name a few) but also has some new dishes that are equally wonderful! We have not been disappointed at all. Sometimes, when you haven't eaten at a once favorite restaurant in many years, on return it fails to live up to the memory. Not so, here! Paulette's lives up to and may even surpass our fond recollections of the past.!"

"The service was good but not outstanding. I expected more for the price. The food was just ok - again I expected more for the price. The Bloody Mary's were excellent and the desserts were very good. Kudos there. We will give it another visit before making up our mind. Will try other dishes on the next visit."

"Brought my daughter due to her request when visiting from Illinois. She has fond memories of eating there when she lived in Memphis. She is a vegetarian and we were forced to come for brunch to get her cheese soup and special salad. The restaurant is heavy on meat, especially at dinner. This is a problem for her.

"I visited this restaurant 18 months ago with a friend and was very delighted with the outstanding service and great food. This visit was very disappointing. Our tables salads were not all brought at the same time. The person that ordered an appetizer to share with the table did not receive his salad, we let the waiter know but he still did not bring it until everyone was done with their salad. Waiter was not readily available throughout our entire meal. Steak was ordered rare plus but served at medium. There was nobody to tell until 10 minutes later. There was a piece of plastic bag cooked into the spinach, waiter was not too alarmed. These are basic things that a good waiter and restaurant do not mess up on all at the same table."

"We were disappointed with the Monday nite special menu and the fact that with an early reservation items were not available. The portion for the shrimp ravioli was very small- maybe even less than an appetizer portion. The people in our group were generally unhappy with the quality of entrees. the soup was very good. We had a great table but with guests with us from out of state the ovverall experience was not what we had hoped for."

"We've been going to Paulette's for years. It used to be in another location but moved along the river a few years ago. My biggest complaint with Paulette's is the monotony of the menu. The menu is the same one they've had for 20 years. I realize locals might have a favorite on the menu and therefore the restaurant is reluctant to change any items for fear of eliminating a menu item that someone particularly enjoys. However, it's time for a change. Or at least add more entres. Even with the seasonal specials the variety is too limited. The deserts are also the same, the entres the same, salads the same, etc."

"Paulette's is an outstanding dining experience. The menu is somewhat limited, but the preparation and presentation is work of art. There are many fine restaurants in Memphis, but few have all the requirements of fine dining. Overlooking the river, fine wine list, quiet layout so you can actually have a private conversation with your dining partner, and great service.

"The food was decent, but not particularly notable. Our waiter was missing in action initially; during the rest of the evening he was efficient, but a bit cold and aloof. The overall dining experience was adequate, but not especially memorable. Although we did not do it this time, arriving early and spending some time on the roof of the hotel in which the restaurant is located, viewing the beautiful and majestic Mississippi river, would have enhanced the evening immensely."

"Went here for our anniversary. The atmosphere was nice and the food was outstanding in taste. The only area in which the restaurant fell short was in service. Our waiter was quick to serve us when we sat down however, he was not accessible throughout the meal and didn't check with us to see how we were doing. A little more personalized service would have went a long way."

"Great place for lunch or dinner. They have a lovely bar, but it is small. The food and service are as outstanding as you would expect. What appeals to me about Paulette's, in addition to the great food and service, is that it is a QUIET restaurant. I've been amazed when we dine in a high-end restaurant that is so noisy you have to shout at the people with whom you are dining. At Paulette's you can have a civilized conversation with your table mates. Wonderful dining experience!"

"Very disappointing! I have been to Paulette's on multiple occasions and I was terribly disappointed in the food on my last visit. Although they were prepared and presented well the appetizers, entrees and desserts lacked flavor. The duck pastrami was fatty and bland; the coq au vin was pan-seared chicken on a wine sauce rather than the braised dish usually associated with the name; the mahi-mahi was chewy, almost rubbery and bore little resemblence to the flaky fish presented in Florida or Hawaii. Even the key lime pie was bland. This meal represented a real change from Paulette's usual high culinary standards. I hope that it is not the beginning of a downward trend."

"Normally, I absolutely LOVE Paulette's. And I will go again. However, I will probably not go for Easter or any other holiday. Positively, the menu selection was lovely and the food delish. On the negative, they were out of their trademark popovers and did not make any for us even though we had reservations & should have been expected. We were shunted to the windowless lobby, right next to the piano and the amazing pianist. However, the volume sorely inhibited conversation. Further, within five minutes after we were seated, many tables in the windowed rooms with a beautiful view of the mighty Mississippi opened up. Service felt like we were sometimes remembered as being guests, because the staff was ready to end their day."

"Paulette's is wonderful and hasn't lost since the move to Harbor Town from Madison Avenue! We ate the chopped sirloin which is so flavorful ( though the edges were a little overdone this time) and a lovely salad with strawberry crepe for dessert. One of my very favorite places in Memphis!"
