La Masseria Restaurant is inspired from ancient fortified farmhouses that in the Puglia Region of Italy are called “Masseria”. Executive Chef/Co-Owner, Pino Coladonato, grew up on a Farm in Puglia. He was forced to eat whatever was available but soon was tired of bean puree and decided to take matters into his own hands, creating new ways to use the same few ingredients. Now, with limitless ingredients to choose from, fava beans, chickpeas and lentils are still a core element in many of his entrees. Interior Designer Libby Langdon has created a warm, inviting dining atmosphere. Rustic and relaxed, with plenty of old world charm. Oversized iron sconces custom made from antique wrought iron gates punctuate the walls, and artful displays of antique farm tools mixed with various authentic Italian photographs all add to the farmhouse appeal. The 250-bottle wine list encompasses all regions of Italy with few of the best American and the rest of the world.

"The food was good, but WAY too expensive for a pre-theatre LUNCH! I would have expected to pay those prices for dinner. Will not return for lunch for sure and may opt for another option for next dinner, assuming our dinner bill will be far more than the lunch check."

"My husband and I always eat here when we go to the theater. It's centrally located to most of the theaters and we find the service to be quite efficient. Some of the entrees are a bit pricey, but the food is consistently good."

"The food was excellent. It arrived hot and attractive. We were seated in the middle of the dining room downstairs. It was lively, and busy. The bar was busy, but did not encroach on our table. The seervice was courteous and attentive. There were definitely some regulars there, as well as tables with young children, who seemed to have no trouble with the menu. The entire experience was great."

"Convenient to the theater district, this is an unexpected bright spot for this area. Excellent wait staff, patient and watchful. Nice wines by the glass. The atmosphere is relaxed , the decor comforting and attractive. The veal chop was top notch- perfectly cooked and succulent.
Mussels, very plentiful portion, shared as an appetizer, were sweet ,plump and with no hint of grit. We thought the pasta with lobster was a bit overpriced although there was no stinting on the lobster meat. Although it was a holiday, Valentine's Day since we arrived early there were no crowds. However, as we left, the restaurant filled up yet we never felt rushed. The rose for each lady was a lovely touch!"

"Service was very good from the start, as we were greeted warmly at the door, and the server was attentive. The food was excellent and the ambiance was great. My wife and I will definitely return.

Our only criticism was that it was Restaurant Week, but we were not given the special (discounted) Restaurant Week menu until we asked for it."

"La Masseria never fails to impress. We have been there at least four times and always with different people. They have all loved the food, atmosphere, and service. "The tables were very close together. It felt like you were eating dinner with the strangers next to you. Restaurant was very loud making it hard for conversation or to even hear the wait staff. The food was nothing special. The appetizer was a special for the night, which we were told was fresh buffalo mozzarella, prosciutto and tomatoes. However when it arrived, it did not have tomatoes. Instead it was served with red roasted peppers, which was okay. The prosciutto was very tough and hard to chew. We ordered two entrees, the roasted rabbit and the fettuccine with fresh lobster in a light tomato sauce. The rabbit dish was excellent. The meat was tender and fell off the bone. The lobster dish was very fishy tasting and not good."

"We loved our dinner experience at La Masseria. The staff could not have been more accommodating, and the decor is just lovely. Having lived in Italy, it's hard for Italian restaurants here to impress us, but this one did! The food was delicious; portions were just right. THe only negative is that the tables are VERY close together, making it hard for wait staff or customers to get around without constantly bumping into other people. "I had some friends in from out of town who requested a "real New York Italian dinner" so we went to La Masseria.
We were given one copy of the restaurant week menu to share between the four of us, and the waiter made a point of correcting my guests on minor points of inflection when they ordered. The food was, overall, good. The stuffed mozzarella and veal soup were especially good, and the rabbit was cooked to falling off the bone. The Restaurant Week chicken was unremarkable, but in it's flat dryness did, in fact, remind me of my Italian grandmother's cooking in her later years, and the gnocchi was gnocchi, though after the excellent appetizers, a little meek in flavor."

"La Masseria is a simply outstanding Italian dining spot in the heart of the theater district. The wait staff were excellent and efficient. The food was prepared wonderfully. Our waiter was more than accomodating with managing special requests and some off-menu variation. Although children were present at other tables, this did not detract at all from the dining experience. "We had dinner at La Masseria before the theater. The food was served very promptly.Delicious appetizer salads. I found the special fish (a grilled grouper) a bit over cooked and lacked any "special" quality. It was good but I think it was overcooked zapping the flavor from the fish, The broccoli rabe served with it was very delicious. My husband had the rabbit which he also found not very flavorful. The restaurant has a lovely atmosphere, the service was perfect, and is a winning choice for a pre-theater dinner but I would not venture there unless it was pre-theater."

However, as two women dining we were offered a terrible table in the middle of the floow - very crowded. After complaining we were moved to a larger table - between 2 very large groups. However, there were tables of 2, sitting at a larger table (who were men).
I find this a problem in most restaurant where the management is so intent on squeezing in the most diners that parties of 2 are often so close they are literally eating lunch with 2 other strangers."

"All was good with the exception that we arrived early for the 12:00PM reservation. Weather outside brutally cold and staff did not want us waiting in restaurant.We were asked us lo leave for the 15min. of course we refused to stand outdoors and ended up standing by the bar and front door. "The entire staff was so great and welcoming! We had to move our reservation by an hour and they accommodated us without question. The ambiance at 9:30pm when we got there was very alive and happening! They honestly had the BEST ravioli's I have ever had - they just melted in our mouths. When we left at 11:45pm, it was still a very full restaurant! I would absolutely recommend this to others...and I consider myself a bit of a food snob. :)"

"I think the food was amazing along with the service. The only complaint we had was the wait for the table even with reservations. Albeit that it was not that long but the host staff seemed to forget about those standing in the wings if they did not know them. Other than that I would recommend this restuarant to everyone I know and return. Pricing was exceptional along with the wait staff and food."

"We had an absolutely lovely late post-theater dinner there with our adult sons. The restaurant was flexible when the play ran late, seated us immediately although they were busy, accommodated the various vegetarian, etc., special requests. My oenophilic husband was delighted with the wine list and prices. Nice "buzz", but we could all hear each other perfectly. Specials were terrific, service lovely and completely professional."

"Once again, the food was great but the table and location was bad. On our first visit (large group) for a birthday celebration we were by the bar and got knocked into. This visit I specifically asked to be away from the bar. There were two of us and we were the only double that was put at a little two seater when there was plenty of tables available. Every other couple were at tables for 4 so plenty of room. We could not have water and wine and bread plate - lots of manuevering. Would not go back because just not comfortable dining - one thing when crowded - different story when they are not. Guess they were saving tables for walk-ins. We were away from the bar :"
