Located in a Land-Marked old "Speakeasy" right off of Washington Square Park in the heart of Greenwich Village. Blue Hill restaurant opened at the end of April 2000. Blue Hill is dedicated to creating a new category of neighborhood restaurant that maintains the classic attributes of warmth and affordability, while delivering superior food and service.
"This lovely romantic and intimate space in the heart of the village has a great wine list, wonderful food set against a backdrop of local and sustainable foods. 5 Starts for non-dessert items only 3.5 stars for dessert. They did not rush our very slow-paced dinner on a busy friday night, so it looks like they have the ratio of reservations set correctly as I kept a watch on the door and nobody was waiting for our table. With that said, the kitchen did struggle a bit to turn out the food. One dish had to be sent back because it was cold and one dish we didn't eat because after a few tries we realized the asparagus was crunchy with sand - apparently they didn't wash it well."

"It's not easy to get the Hub excited about a 5 o'clock dinner reservation. But that was all that was available during the few days we were in NYC. It was one of the few sunny days and we treated it like a late lunch. We arrived while the staff was still in a meeting. Something spectacular about that space completely empty of humans! We were ushered to a romantic corner and proceeded to love every offering. The Chef's treat -- the tiniest little asparagus "burger" on an itty bitty brioche bun I will crave for the rest of my life! The saffron lardo app with the carrot top salt, the 12 grain snap pea risotto with chocolate wheat and the lamb...
Really truly a divine time!"

"I brought my wife here for our one year anniversary and it was an absolutely incredible experience. Amazing staff who were very knowledgable about the ever-changing menu and made an excellent wine recommendation for us (and it wasn't the most expensive bottle on the list). I would absolutely recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for a special evening."

"I can't say anything was bad, but while these must be the freshest ingredients, there seamed to be no thought to seasoning. I also think that a restaurant at this price point should not use paper on top of their linen. There are many other restaurants in New York where that first taste makes you think wow how did they do this. Our appetizer was a pasta with an IMMATURE Emu egg. The waiter came over with a petrified yolk and a micro plane and shaved it on top of some rather plain pasta like we were doing a truffle ceremony. I still don't know what it added to the dish. Maybe we needed a more MATURE egg? Go to Gotham Bar and Grill or Bouley and have a gastronomic experience instead of a nicely arranged plate of samplings."

"Blue Hill has long been on my personal top ten list. I've recommended it often, and lamented the difficulty of getting a reservation. I have had beautiful meals there and can still remember many of those dishes. Until this week: while the servers were lovely, my husband and I found that only one out of the 9 courses between us was particularly delicious, while one was so oversalted that I couldn't eat it. The pacing was also very uneven.
Go for the atmosphere, not the food."

"I would like to make this as constructive as possible without simply stating this was the best meal I've ever had. My brother and I came in on a Thursday evening. We ordered cocktails and decided to do the chefs tasting courses. We ordered a willamette valley Pinot noir and promptly enjoyed course after course of the freshest, most flavorful food I've ever tasted. Every item was light yet rich. We left feeling satisfied and happy to experience such an occasion as blue hill. I recommend the pork as it is to die for and the poussin was incredibly moist and light. Thank you blue hill and all of your glowing staff. It was an honor."

"Blue Hill is a farm to table restaurant in the West Village that is special in every sense. The food is so fresh and flavorful. The service is totally helpful and friendly, not snooty at all despite this being a top restaurant . It is expensive , but well worth it. I'd go back any opportunity I had!"

"Blue Hill is beyond worthy of the James Beard Award Restaurant of the Year 2013. Holy moly this place is amazing! From the tiny asparagus burger amuse bouche to the vegetables on a fence to the farm egg to the bread and butter and the pig and chicken and shortcake, the wine selection, etc., the creativity of the menu options and the sheer melt in your mouth goodness of everything they have makes this restaurant one not to be missed. I can't wait to go back!"

"Blue Hill certainly did surprise, it was even better than we had heard. Service and food were both impeccable. The service was warm and friendly, the food innovative and interesting, full of flavour and so well presented. A great deal of thought and care went into everything we experienced. Be sure to select some "farm snacks" from the menu, they were delightful and cannot be missed and leave room for dessert, there are just as many surprises there too. I wish this was my local! We look forward to coming back (all the way from Sydney!!)."

"When I eat at Blue Hill, I feels like I am surrounded by friends who do really nice things for me, always. But there's also the stunning food. Most reviews of Blue Hill compliment product. That's deserved: I had amazingly sweet butterhead lettuce, fiddleheads, asparagus and strawberries. But what they do with that product is equally remarkable: Stone Barns charcuterie is ridiculous. The butterhead lettuce was beautifully dressed, those fiddleheads and asparagus beautifully seasoned and cooked. And you know how at fancy restaurant you see micro herbs, but it seems like they're there to make dishes look pretty, and the herbs' bitter/cleansing notes are an afterthought? Herbs seem present at Blue HIll primarily to make each dish harmonious."

"We went to Blue Hill for my sons birthday. He choose this due to his interest in farming and food. Although our server was very warm and accommodating the meal took over 3 hrs leaving us hungry and annoyed. The kitchen obviously had major problems. The food wasn't even interesting. A huge waste of money."

"3rd visit and consistently exceptional. Certainly in my top 3 restaurants in Manhattan. It's difficult to find any fault with this place. It's expensive ($320 for 2 including a nice $90 bottle of wine) but fortunately we are never disappointed. Food and service are exceptional. You get what you pay for."

"My fiancee and I went to Blue Hill to celebrate her birthday as we had both heard wonderful things about this place. We went in with high expectations and were blown away. In fact, Blue Hill set a whole new standard for us. It was, quite literally, the best meal I have ever had in my life.
From the simplest part of the meal, the pre-dinner bread served with home made sweet cream butter and seasoned salts, to the main dish, roasted lamb belly, we were consistently blown away. The quality of the local ingredients was unparalleled and the combination of seasonal fare was both surprising and comfortable.
I cannot recommend Blue Hill more highly. If you like local, farm to table fare, and the highest quality preparation, go to Blue Hill."

"The food here was absolutely amazing. From the complimentary appetizer bite, to my entree, to the last bite of dessert I ate, everything was perfect. The flavor profiles were very diverse, but all worked harmoniously together. I was in NYC for vacation, and this was probably the best restaurant we ate at (and we ate at quite a few top restaurants in Manhattan). The service was impeccable and our waitress was very helpful in offering advice based on what you like."

"We were delighted with our meal: asparagus soup and the farm egg appetizer followed by the cauliflower steak and chicken entrees. With our delicious cocktails and bread we were satiated, but to my surprise they brought out a dessert platter for my daughter's birthday. We were both surprised! And delighted, as the offerings were outstanding. Our server was knowledgeable and helpful. No complaints!"

"We ordered the mahi-mahi and duck. We thought both dishes were uninteresting. The flavors were clean, but far from delicious. The amuse bouche was the most delicious morsel we ate. The chocolate bread pudding was very good. Not to sweet. We know that the restaurant serves seasonal vegetables but were surprised to see cauliflower and fiddleheads appear in so many dishes. The service was excellent. The staff was knowledgeable and accommodating. The atmosphere is quiet and intimate."

"My partner and I celebrated our anniversary here at Blue Hill NYC. I read several reviews, and it lived up to all expectations. We started with the vegetables on a fence. So much fun to eat!! Food should be fun, right? We skipped appetizers since we were planning on having dessert. My partner had the Mahi Mahi, and I the Chicken. It was amazing! The chicken came with a portion of breast, perfectly cooked and a portion of thigh with seared skin. The thigh portion was very small (maybe two ounces), but it was perfect for just a taste! It was served with some sautéed Swiss chard, which I thought was the star of the plate! Then we had the chocolate bread pudding. It was such a delight! I think we may have found our go-to for special occasions."

"The set menu Farmer's Feast was very well composed - the dishes varied, right sized and innovative. The outlay was nice without any unnecessary gimmicks. A minor minus is that there was too little time between the different dishes. It seemed like the staff wanted to get finished with us so that they could sell the table to the next customers. The check was brought to us without notice immediately after the dessert, which we understood as a message to leave."

"We had the sturgeon and chilled asparagus soup for starters and the fish and chicken as entrées. The chicken was so tender it didn't seem like chicken. The fish was cooked nicely, but very bland. The best thing we had worth the Jerusalem artichokes as a side. They were outstanding. Although the food was good I don't see what all the fuss is about this place. There are too many other great restaurants to recommend before this one."

"Every time I visit NYC from Europe I pay a visit to Blue hill,., This time we were sitting at the back, in a lovely and very quiet room, I am sure some may feel too far from the vibe of the main room, and would be put of having to go through the kitchen, but for me was just the opposite. NY restaurant are usually so noisy!! And the food? Well, just perfect, with touch of simplicity, big creative sense of cooking, with no extravaganza... Really my favourite place in town! Only minus, the aircon blowing coold air in the dishes... It was only 50degrees outside..."

"I had requested a quiet table and we were offered one in the garden room at the back, which is smaller and quieter than the main room. So that was a good start. Our waiter was serious and knowledgeable. The food was cooked and presented beautifully, all the ingredients fresh, organic, etc etc. Only disappoinment was the bread-pudding dessert, which was rather ordinary. High prices seem deserved. We came away impressed and not overstuffed."

"We dined at Blue Hill for our 1 year anniversary - everything was perfect! We started with the asparagus soup and the potato ball farm snacks. We did have a little food envy after seeing our neighbor's "veggies on a fence" but we were very pleased with our appetizers as well! For dinner we had the pork and the duck. Both were prepared to perfection and went great with our Counoise wine from Washington State - an excellent suggestion from the sommelier. Would love to go back soon as the menu is ever changing and always incorporates the freshest of ingredients!"

"Very nice place for a special occasion. Everything was super tasty, except perhaps the risotto that my husband found a bit disappointing (it wasn't what he had expected, but he's probably to blame for not reading the menu properly or asking questions). Also service was very good, the waiter asked us is we had food allergies and since we're lactose-intolerant he brought us olive oil instead of butter with the cheese. Minor cons: (1) we had to wait 10 minutes to be seated (with a reservation) when the table was actually ready and right in front of us. (2) The aircon was very cold in the beginning but it was a bit better after a while. (3) The place was a bit on the loud side for this kind of special occasions place (but not unbearable)."

"We stopped by on a weeknight in hopes of getting a table earlier than our reservation. The hostess pleasant, but was very awkward about taking care of us. Eventually, we found seats at the bar. We ordered snacks (chick pea fries, veggies on a fence), an appetizer (sausage), entrees (pig, chicken), dessert (choc bread pudding) and wine (reisling and a white blend). Only the sausage appetizer and pig entree were memorable (and the brussel sprouts in the chicken dish). The wine was good, but over-priced (we paid $80 for 4 glasses). The bartender was a highlight of the evening. We left with full stomachs and a relatively forgettable evening. I'm a BH fan, but be prepared to spend money and walk away without a life-changing experience."

"Enjoyed our meal greatly. Food was wonderfully fresh and beautifully plated. Portions were generous. Cocktails, although smallish, were outstanding. Service was very efficient and friendly without being hovering or annoying. This is a very good and well done urban outpost of the rural Stone Barns location. "I had been to their Stone Barns and had an unforgettable brunch with friends, and now at Blue Hill NY, the experience was amazing! From the moment I walked in, we were promptly seated to the perfect corner booth table with my friend. I had not seen my friend who was visiting from LA for several years, so we had a lot to catch on, and the waitress never once interrupted, except to bring our drinks, which this in itself is incredible. We shared our food, family style, started potato balls, and walnut, speck, cabbage, which we loved, followed with the soft shell crab as one of the appetizers, as an second course we shared the most delicious creamy celeriac risotto with shell fish, finished w/ a beautiful flaky braised hake, perfect night!"

"Intimate, quiet restaurant off Washington Park in Greenwich Village that is spot-on in selection, preparation, portioning, and presentation of plate-art that tastes as good as it looks. Service is superb and knowledgeable, easily describing the process and product for each menu item, when asked. Boutique-farm raised vegetables are treated reverentially, and the poached fish was perfectly fresh even on a Monday. Wine list is limited but very well chosen and temperature correct. This was one of my most memorable meals in 35 years of food-roaming."

"Blue Hill is one of my favorite NYC restaurants and I have visited it several times over the past few years, but this time it seemed to be a step behind previous trips. The most noticeable things was that the room seemed very dark compared to previous years and it was uncomfortably warm. The food was very good but seemed less, well, inspired and fresh, than before. Perhaps this is a function of a particularly rosy memory.
Still recommended."

"I had made a reservation for two on OpenTable for 8:30 on a Tuesday night. The hostess took 50 minutes to seat us. She stated she apoligized, but very insincerly, but gave us zero reason as to why our reservation clearly meant nothing to her or the restaurant. I was there for a dinner with a client, and my firm was paying for the bill. After 35 minutes of waiting, a kinder man came over and told us he was sorry, but still gave us no reason as to why we still had to wait. He told us our drinks while we waited at the bar would be taken care of, but that means little when you're at a business dinner and already planning to pay for a nice dinner. It doesn't matter if food is good when you are treated this way."
