The Topside Waterfront Restaurant in the Sea Pines Resort, specializes in the freshest, most pristine seafood available locally and flown in daily from various ports of call; prepared with minimal "fuss" to allow the "flavors of the sea" to take main stage; also featuring thick-cut steaks, handcrafted burgers, and great appetizers that make The Topside a "can't miss."
"Excellent place to see sunset, don't expect much from food. The view was the only thing that lifted rating from fair to good. Signature gumbo looked like bowl of "glop", flavor not bad but where were the crab & shrimp? Every entree comes with a stack of fried onion - maybe scallion?- on top. How is that possible? When you order from the DIY menu your fish will come stacked on your sides, yes, even if one of those sides is sweet potato fries! Amazing. Anyway, the fish was OK (I had snapper my friend Covina) and shrimp taco was good. Go with low expectations and you will not be disappointed."

"We had a very pleasant evening. Three of us dined here for Mother's Day and all tried fish dishes. Two of us had Cobia and one had red snapper. They were all well prepared. The fried green tomato appetizer was also very good. We shared the pecan pie and it may have the best we have ever tasted. We had a nice table and were treated to a beautiful sunset. All in all a very nice evening."

"This restaurant was wonderful in all ways! The view is great old Cailibogue Bay and or the 18th hole of the golf course. For once arestauramnt where the portion of food is not so huge you feel stuffed looking at it and guilty if you can't finish it! We have been going to Hilton Head for 36 years and this was our first visit to this restaurant. And worth every minute."

"Beautiful view of the Lighthouse! It's a lively, slightly formal dining place. Food was amazing, from the bread & butter to the HUGE bowl of crab soup, to the fish special! Would absolutely go back!"

"We were quite disappointed with the Easter brunch menu. The oysters in the half shell were grainy and mushy, the shrimp soft and smelly. The side dishes were awful: tasteless bean salad, forgettable potato salad, baked pieces of sweet potato, collard greens. Absolutely nothing special. The prime rib and salmon were ok, nothing more. Even the bloody marys we ordered looked as if they had been sitting for a while, all watery on the top. Honestly, I felt that paying 40 dollars ++ a person was ridiculous for the quality and quantity of food they served. Never going back there...yuk!"

"We would have given this restaurant 5 stars, but we although we were seated immediately next to the window with a great sunset view, we were also next to the kitchen door in spite of our having made an open table reservation two days ahead. Fresh seafood was well prepared and presented. Our server seemed new, but was good."

"While our food was pretty good, the service was terrible. Our appetizers didn't come out until 45 minutes after we ordered, despite our "server" saying they would be "out in just a minute." We finally cancelled the appetizers, at which time he said he would have the kitchen fire our entrees. Not 4 minutes later the supervisor brought over the appetizers, insisting that we have them. Not once did an apology cross our server's lips. He actually said at on point it was because they were busy! We decided not to mention that when we placed our order, only 4 other tables were occupied, and that the table of 6 next to us that ordered about 20 minutes after we did received their appetizers in an appropriate amount of time."

"Great fresh fish grilled to perfection. I have dietary restrictions, and the kitchen was very accommodating ... prepared at least one item not even on the menu! Lovely water and Harbour Town views!"

"Topside is an anchor restaurant for Sea Pines, right at the light house in Harbor Town. It's a nice place to catch the sunset over the sound and have fresh fish prepared to order. Aside from the view, the interior is not particularly special and I have never found the food to be amazing."

"Over an hour wait for food, a waiter that seemed to disappear and not interested in waiting on us. Seafood over cooked and not seasoned very well. I had to ask the hostess to find him to get a check."

"Located in a high tourist spot on Hilton Head, Topside probably caters mostly to tourists. As local residents, we are looking for better quality food, especially for the price. The service wasn't bad, it was just impersonal. And after we ordered dessert, we waited 20 minutes with no sign of the server - he should have told us that the little cake had to be freshly baked."

"Arrived on time for a 7:00 reservation and was told we had a half hour wait even though the restaurant had many empty tables. Spoke briefly to the manager and he did not care at all. We called another restaurant and got in immediately. I would not count on the place for an important evening."

"This was a very nice experience from start to finish. I do recommend a reservation for dinner seating as the restaurant is small, but does give you plenty of room between tables and seating. The views are amazing as a second floor restaurant with 180 degrees of water front viewing at the base of the recognizable Hilton Head Island Lighthouse. You can see the famous 18th green at Harbour Town, the harbour, and the sound from where you eat. The menu is southern and seafood mixed together perfectly. As a lifetime resident of Florida and weekend fisherman who has traveled to Alaska, Maine, and other places, I have to admit this is the best seafood I have ever tasted. The side dishes were amazing as well."

"Topside offers excellent food, especially seafood, with a view of the water that can't be matched any where. We like to go there for an early dinner this time of year in order to watch the sun set, and we were not disappointed. The blackened corvina, which both my wife and I had, was exquisite. We also enjoyed a relatively inexpensive South African wine that we had heard good things about, and it didn't disappoint either. The key lime pie for dessert was the best we've had, which says something since we in Key West 3 months ago & had key lime pie there several times. Finally, the service was perfect--just enough attention and with a personal touch. We will return."

"When we visit Hilton Head this is the place we head for a nice night out. We have seen several weddings on the golf course, and the view of the harbor cannot be beat. If you can be there for sunset you will really enjoy nature's show. The food is great and the staff friendly."
