"Andre's Bouchée bills itself as a French bistro. You'll find that, while the food captures the style of your favorite Parisian eatery, the ambiance may be even a notch higher. The veal chop smothered in wild mushrooms that was a special of the night we dined was simply terrific. An extensive wine list reflects the owners' love of all things gastronomic. Reserve early if you plan to eat here on a weekend."

"We took our Mom their to eat on Mother's Day. I made reservations about two weeks in advance. We arrived promptly and waited about 5 minutes to be seated. This was understandable because seating is limited in this quaint restaurant. When we were seated, we were given a booth next to the window, which was very nice because our Mom is a people watcher. The service was outstanding, and the restaurant paid close attention to detail. The food was better than expected, and we really felt like our money was well spent. Most important was the complete experience and ambiance which exceeded our expectations. We will definitely revisit this restaurant in the future."

"The food was exquisitely prepared as it was delicious! We had Scallops with Saffron and Special Salmon Stuffed with Puréed Halibut. Both delectably delicious! The host was friendly and knowledgable. Just simple, good food No pretense I hope they stay around for a long time
Contrary to this, we dined at the over-priced, self-absorbed, nice but by no means great food Post Ranch Inn earlier in the week. I would say that Bouchée gives them more than a run for the money!"

"I have been to Carmel several times over the past decades but never ate here. I will surely return many times because the restaurant is so charming. Traditional French food (sweetbreads, sauces, port-wine reductions, etc) with an outstanding wine cellar. They gave us samples of other wines (we ordered a NZ Marlborough sauvignon blanc and they gave us a small taste of a California sauvignon to compare it with, grenache to go with our dessert). The food was excellent. We discussed French restaurants in SF with the owner (son of the original owner) who was very familiar with our favorite Chapeau!. Bouchee was named several times on Chowhound (a site I use a lot to identify places to eat while traveling) and it deserves it."

"Food was the high point - appetizers and dinner were excellent, and desert was even better! Service was very good, almost outstanding. Only negative was the noise level. With the restaurant 3/4 full, it was quite loud for this kind of dining (fine). My wife and I had problems hearing each other across the table.
That said, I would go back again in a heartbeat! Thanks for a great night."

"Picked the restaurant for our 26th anniversary and the fact my wife loves sweetbreads. Unfortunately they didn't live up to what I hoped for based on what she experienced. Just didn't have any real taste to them, bland?. However, in all fairness the wine was great and she loved the salad. My Salmon dish was excellent along with the French Onion soup. The dessert very yummy and the service was super too. All in all I would rate it as very good, just the sweetbreads were a disappointment since that is what I was shooting for as the center piece for my wife."

"We ate at this restaurant the night before our last night in town. We enjoyed it so much that we went back again for our last night in the Carmel area. My wife is normally not a fan of French restaurants but Andree's is now one of her favorites. The food and service are simply excellent. We will definitely return the next time we are in the area."

The food and service were outstanding. "We had an enjoyable experience with great food, service and presentation of the foods. The cauliflower soup is a great meal in itself , but we followed it with the salmon wrapped asparagas appetizer. My husband had the scallops served on top of veal and I had the lamb. "We had 7:30pm reservations and did not get seated until 8:00pm after other reservations that were later than ours were seated. The hostess was completely overwhelmed and disorganized. They had people walking in to eat and she was not very polite to them.
Once we got seated we ordered our bottle of wine and it took awhile to get it because the bartender/sommelier was the only one with a key to the wine cellar. Appetizer was delicious, soups were great (very large portion) and our entrees took forever to arrive. My steak was OVERCOOKED. I asked for medium and it was well done. All in all, I would not go back and would not recommend to anyone. Next time, Rio Grill!"

"The menu was very good. The chef might be a touch heavy handed with sauces. My wife had the T-bone steak and she felt the sauce did not let the meat shine through. My filet was perfect. All the food was very tasty. The wine list was extensive and French/Napa heavy as you might expect in this type of restaurant. The wine prices were quite high with many four times retail in price. Also, I wish they had represented other areas of California on the wine list. My tastes are varied and I found none of my favorites from Lodi to the Sierra foothills there. Also absent were many Paso Robles wineries. Interesting choices but be ready to spend."

"I ordered the Tri-Tip dinner and believe it was one of the best I have ever eaten. The. Salad with beets, pear, and goat cheese was outstanding.

"We had the lobster bisque (delicious), St Jacques Provencale (sea scallops) and beef tenderloin with a truffle and port wine sauce demi glace. The scallops were incredible! Stephen (our server and part owner (?) is extremely knowledgeable. We had an interesting conversation with him about where the restaurant gets its seafood. (A variety of sources because they want the best.) The scallops are flown in fresh from Maine, and are the best we have ever eaten, filled with the flavor of the Atlantic. The filet mignon was incredible - tender, moist, and topped with a sauce that had me savoring each last bite. Dessert was vanilla/rum and espresso creme brulee - what a combination! Our absolute favorite meal on this trip to Carmel"

"This is a small, intimate French restaurant in the village of Carmel. It is within walking distance from hotels in the village. Portions are large, and food quality ranges from good to excellent. Food prices are quite reasonable for a French restaurant in Carmel.
The wine list contains a number of high quality wines at expected high prices. Fortunately, you can lower the bill by ordering a selection of wines by the glass or even by the half glass.
The owner-manager of the restaurant is friendly and personable. He makes his rounds of the tables chatting with locals and tourists alike. He is a very positive addition to the whole experience. All in all, it's an enjoyable evening in Carmel."

"Our family of 4(2 pre-teens) had a great time at Andre's Bouchee. After reading reviews we made an early reservation for dinner (6:30), but ended up arriving even earlier still. We were seated immediately and settled in for a wonderful evening. We ran into an acquaintance who proclaimed it the best food in Carmel. We tend to agree. The food is French for sure, and very fresh. The staff was happy to accommodate our picky eater (he had an excellent steak), and the Sommelier was helpful and made outstanding wine suggestions. Highly recommend making a reservation as the restaurant tends to fill up quickly. They do serve most of their menu at the wine bar. We even got to do a little celebrity spotting!"

"Once we had time to make our entree decisions, the very knowledgeable sommelier helped us choose wines by the glass to match my wife and my differing wine preferences. We began our meal with the Lobster Bisque which was rich, creamy and contained chunks of lobster. My "veal tenderloin and sea scallops served with sea scallop sauce" was outstanding. I have never eaten veal as tender" The sauce was light, yet full of flavor. Though the restaurant was busy, the service was very attentive. Not only our server, but the owner stopped at our table to make sure our dinner was as we had ordered it. Andre's Bouchee is without a doubt our choice for the best restaurant in Carmel-By-The-Sea."

"This was a last minute find on open table. What a fantastic experience. I had duck and my date had the quail (which was the special). Our food was made to perfection. Wine pairings were great. I loved our waiter. Thanks for a great evening. We will definitely be back!"

"I don't get it. Food was good, nothing special. I think people are so accustomed to over priced nonsense in Carmel, they accept what is ok as great. The filet was good as was the salmon. The trout was overstuffed and smothered in a one note sauce."

"3rd Visit. Reservations easy, warm welcome, seating perfect, just as requested. Sommelier with great experience, and very helpful. Service attentive but not to details. Food uninspiring and not up to our expectations.
Had the escargots, good, but the hazelnuts where almost whole, also not flavoring the dish but rather sticking out (I love Hazelnuts, but...)
Lobster bisque- without flavor. Crème of wild Mushrooms soup, excellent! Mains:Bar tasty, but a bit overcooked, and to much sauce. Duck was not rose as requested but well done , very well done. To sweet sauce, something I would be afraid of could happen in a non-French restaurant but here? Service rushed more and more as evening progressed.

"Our waiter Jorge (aka John Leguizamo's twin) made our girl's night dinner very especial with his recommendations and special attention. D'mitrie schooled us in the art of choosing a good wine and even told a few jokes. The food was great although limited in selections. The dessert did not impressed me."

"Good for small groups of 10 to 15 in their wine room. A.B. is a nice restaurant, conveniently located and pleasant ambience. Wait staff is quite attentive and friendly as is Andre, the proprietor. Wine selection is a pride and joy of the owner who knows his wine. Food is beautifully presented. Cuisine consists of a smaller menu selection but a good variety of choices. Quality of food is very good... not quite a 5 star but close."

"Very nice evening. My steak was delicious. My husband had the short ribs special and said they were a little dry. We had an artichoke appetizer that didn't taste like artichoke but more like the sauce. The Ryan Cabernet was very tasty but a little pricey. In fact, the was list was very expensive. The ambiance was very nice. It wasn't very crowded and the service was very good. Thank you Jose."

"Food was delicious. Had the filet mignon and rib eye. Both cooked perfectly with great sauces. The profiteroles were the best my friend ever had. Serving sizes were good, prices reasonable for the very expensive locale. Wine by the glass seemed expensive and we didn't have a good table, but I would definitely recommend the restaurant."

"Overall, very good. The food was needed a bit more seasoning. The sea base with lime and thyme sauce was perfectly cooked but the sauce was just ok. "Special Valentines Day menu was delicious and my wife was delighted with the free red rose delivered with the menu. Reservation was precise and we were seated immediately. All service was perfect. Food was top notch and the portion sizes were perfect. Wasn't too happy with the lofty wine prices, but I suppose it's Carmel and that's mandatory."

"Everything was adequate; nothing memorable. It was Valentine's Day, so slow service may be expected. Just getting a glass of wine was tedious; should have ordered a bottle to get the attention of the sommelier. But my husband prefers red and I prefer white. Also. we went early (6PM) so perhaps the best of their staff had not yet arrived for the long evening ahead. The food was adequate. The price was reasonable."

"A fabulous evening, 2 in fact. Enjoyed it so much we went back 2 nights later. Sat at the chef's table, a bar-topped counter seating 4 where you can view the artistry and hard work of the chefs. food was excellent [lobster salad, onion soup, and the Bronzini - finest fish dish I've ever had and I'm a steak lover], and the staff very friendly."

"We went for Valentine's Day. The resturant was packed, but not noisey or too quiet. Our table wasn't ready so we had a glass of bubbly at the wine bar while we waited. The wait was short and we were seated at a nice table. Our waitress Lauren was very informative on the specials. I had the Lobster, my husband the Lamb shank. Delicious!
