"Everything, minus the corn bread and the dessert, was over salted. It was almost inedible. It would have been better if when told the food was too salty to have been offered a replacement dish... Instead of saying the chef will be made aware. And while I barely touch what I ordered and do not take it home..."

"I was pleasantly surprised to find a vegetarian option (the Reezy Peasy) on the menu at a Southern-style restaurant, and even more surprised at how delicious the dish was. We were all quite pleased with our selections, and my cousin pronounced the chicken and dumplings, her favorite meal, the best she'd ever had. The only disappointment was the portion size of the sweet tea pork, which was dramatically smaller than all other dishes we ordered."

"Big Jones has all the high-end taste and charm, but a relaxed attitude. The southern/creole fusion food that goes beyond comfort into a whole new category. It's perfect for foodies and family's who just want great classics. The bourbon/whiskey selection is fantastic and so are all the people. There's literally nothing not to love."

"Not what I expected for an Eater 38-listed restaurant. Just okay .... Even anteprima, almost right across the street, is much better in my view. The fried claims appetizer was ... hmmm ... again, okay. really, nothing better than what Ii got at Howard Johnson's in the 70's. My entree was good but it came with fries that were very differently sized and therefore differently cooked. And a little lit of some white sauce--so little I took the container off my plate since I thought it was empty, by mistake, until my date took a look and noticed something in there. Not a good sauce. My date's shrimp and grits was not very good and she ate little of it. We've both had much better, even around Chicago. Dessert--a bread pudding--was the high point."

"We went to Big Jones with a large group of 6. We had a reservation so the wait wasn't bad. Our server was outstanding. Very friendly and knowledgable. We tried the biscuits and gravy which was amazing. Gumbo was rich and complex. We got the New Orleans eggs, eggs Benedict and a shrimp filled omelette. Everyone loved what they ordered. Everything was beautifully executed and delicious. I could use an order of cheese grits right now."

"Food is good - we've been there before and always enjoyed it. Our server was good but the bartender had a really bad attitude problem. He didn't like my request for a replacement cocktail when he got the drink wrong - and I offered to pay for both - so he made me wait 15 minutes for my drink. I went up to the bar myself to ask what the problem was and that was when he made my drink. I worked as a server and tended bar in college and grad school so it really irks me when people in service venues can't get it right."

"Our second time here and it just gets better. Intriguing concept that is beautifully executed. The menu is quite diverse. My wife found a meatless dish that was terrific and based on a recipe from the 1800's. Super friendly staff- no pressure, talkative, but not in a overbearing way. Crazy good whiskey selection. Love this place."

"The food is excellent as is their Bourbon menu. Some of the cocktails could use some fine tuning (hint: too sweet). Service was pretty bad, we waited over 20 minutes after being seated to have someone take our food/drinks order and then another 20 minutes for dessert. It wasn't like they were slammed, they had 3 other tables and 2-3 waitstaff."

"I didn't read the menu ahead of time and was surprised to discover it was authentic new orleans/southern food. Having went to Univeristy in Atlanta, it was great to find some of my old favorites so close to home. Organic, locally sourced, fresh... absolutely delicious. Gumbo was yummy, but the catfish looked amazing. Every plate was very pretty (we had "plate envy" of all the people next to us!!). Loved the Beignets that came with our meal!!
MAKE A RESERVATION!!! With one, we had to wait about 15 minutes. Without one, it was about an hour to an hour-twenty for sunday brunch (at noon).
You're in for a treat. I highly recommend this restaurant!!"

"I'm from Texas so I get pretty picky when it comes to my comfort food. Big Jones was amazing and I intend to bring my southern family there when they come visit. My boyfriend is also a huge whiskey fan and we were floored by the amazing selection of whiskeys and cocktails."

"Excellent food and drinks, I wish the place were bigger though. It always has a cramped feel to it---not in a good, cozy way either. I've never been disappointed at brunch and this past Sunday was no exception. The service was great and the food was wonderful. I didn't give the food 5 stars because the hollandaise sauce on my Eggs New Orleans was a bit dry and the dish looked like it'd been under a heating lamp for a bit too long. I also withheld one star for service because we ordered the cornbread appetizer and it came after our entrees. A rookie mistake--had our server asked, we probably would have declined the app given the timing and the amount of food we had. The Bloody Mary was fantastic. Right kick, great garnishes."

"Big Jones was packed on Saturday night, but that's a good sign. We made a reservation for 9pm and were promptly shown our table. We make it to Big Jones at least every other month and they always have a great selection and always leave full and happy. I had the shrimp and grits and my husband had the pork loin. The sweet potato hash is our go-to side dish!"

"Right across from teh Swedish Bakery in the Andersonville neighborhood of Chicago, Big Jones was an amazing Brunch treat! Reminiscent of our honeymoon in New Orleans, the restaurant served comfort foods with a twist. Two of our party had the eggs benedict with crab - amazing! I had the french toast, which was good, but i wished i had ordered the catfish.

"We felt like we were back in NOLA. The food is heavy- now I remember why I took so many naps vacationing in NOLA. We should have only ordered one appetizer- after we had the clams (delish!) we couldn't finish the creole salad! The salad had great crispy pork AND bacon AND an egg... each of those apps could have been meals in themselves. We only took a few bites of the shrimp po'boy before we had to have it wrapped up to go. The best po'boy either of us has ever eaten!!! The pickled veggies and sauce paired perfectly with the po'boy. We each had a non-alcoholic drink, ginger beer and cactus pear tea. Both were very flavorful and refreshing with the heavy food. We will be back and will bring friends next time!"

"Brunch was great--fresh baked goods were fresh and tasty. The restaurant was understaffed. Although our server was good, it was clear she was in the weeds. We waited about ten minutes to be greeted--there was a line out the door of people waiting to put their name in for a seat. Luckily, I reserved a seat on Open Table. We waited about ten minutes after we were seated to get coffee. The staff was doing the best they could it seems. They were understaffed."

"Food is amazing, and they take special care making their cocktails. Whisky/whiskey/bourbon/rye list is absolutely amazing, topped by a high-end Pappy Van Winkle 23-yr (nummers). Ribs were on special when we were there, and they're worth seeking out. Knowledgeable and kind staff."

"Went here on a random night looking to try new things in Andersonville -- and loved it! You might spend a good dime on the food, but it doesn't disappoint. We got the fried chicken platter, the crawfish etoufee, sweet potato and bacon, and grilled brussel sprouts. It was all phenomenal.
The whiskey list is pretty extensive as well, so make sure to compliment it with a glass.
Me and the lady got a nice spot at the front window which lent itself for good people watching, and also a romantic din din."

"The food was good even if the menu wasn't very diverse. Our waitress was a little hard to find when we needed refills on drinks (or wanted to order something else) and then never ended up bringing a couple of things we asked for. We were there for a planning meeting for my wedding and even though there was no one waiting for our table (the front of the room was open and there were open tables all over the place), we were rushed out the door as soon as it had looked like we were finished with our food. I ordered tea and they actually tried to take it away from me before I'd even had a cup. It was highly discouraging for the $80 dollar bill I paid for brunch."

"First-timer for The Boardinghouse Lunch and what a treat it was. Outstanding fried chicken, with a crunchingly delicious crust and huge pieces of tender, juicy meat. Sides were terrific and the Banana Pudding dessert was spot on. All the nuances were just the way we like them and that includes the biscuits and corn muffins. Way too much food, so the leftovers were great reminders of a most pleasurable meal. Definitely a new addition to our lunch rotation."
