McCormick & Kuleto's Seafood Restaurant is located in historic Ghirardelli Square. "The service was very slow - not sure if it was because there were fewer staff or because it was St Patrick's day, or both.
We were a bit disappointed with the Ciampino. We had been here a few times, and the waiter could not give a definite answer on why the cooking style of the Ciampino had changed. (It was more salty this time, compared to the tomato-y broth that it had been usually cooked in before)
It felt like the waiter was just making up an answer as opposed to owning up to the fact that he did not know why the Ciampino was different.
Otherwise, the Chilean bass was good, as was the Halibut and the swordfish.

Overall, service was slow and not as good as what we remembered it to be."

"The clam chowder is the best in the area, and the fresh spinach salad was excellent. I recommend this restaurant for the view of the bay, so arrive before sunset and either sit high on the upper levels for a full view, or next to the two story picture windows. The wait staff is well trained and make excellent suggestions for food and wine pairing based on your mood.

However, my group was disappointed overall. The recommended crab-cake appetizer was presented well, but small for the price. The suggested Chilean Sea Bass was presented with a dark, overcooked potato hash-brown that took away the appeal. "In SF for a conferece, took a couple clients here one day for lunch and another day another group for dinner. The resaurant was perfect for this - beautiful views of the bay, the atmosphere and service were excellent, and the servers were very attentive. If you can call ahead and tell them it is a special event and they will give you the extra attention you need. We had a booth on the middle level and again had a full panoramic views of the bay were a hit. Yes, this is part of a chain but it was great and wasnt too expensive either. We had Swordfish, Filet Mignon, a bottle of Vuewve Clicquot - wonderful. M&K's is in Ghiradelli Square so our guests had a good time picking up souveniers before heading back to the conf. hotel."

"McCormick & Kuleto's is a good place to take visitors because of the location and view for
the tourist. You can get a good meal and portions are generous. There are much better seafood
restaurants in San Francisco. Wine is horribly overpriced and service could be a bit more

"The restaurant is gorgeous with a fantastic view over the bay from the side of Ghiradelli Square. The food was great! My boyfriend ordered the smoked salmon which was fantastic, smokey yet moist. The only downside was his portion size and selection of sides. He was told it came with a side, but it just had some shredded veggies as decoration. I ordered the black pepper dungeoness crab which was really good and they served me a massive amount. The ambience is great, very romantic, perfect for Valentine's Day."

"The Crab Avocado mango tower is to die for. The clam chowder was very rich and classic. The view of the bay superb at sunset, if you had a window table. The prawn in scampi sauce were humongous and delicious. The key lime pie was a pleasant surprise in that it was almost like a cheesecake but with a nice Southern twang. Bring your own wine since corkage is reasonable"

"This was a group dinner as part of a corporate retreat. We were seated promptly and had a very nice view of the bay. Because it was dark, the view was not as awe inspiring as it would be at earlier in the evening. Very well rounded menu and that offered a great deal of variety and the wine list was solid. Since our group was from the Rio Grande Valley of Texas, we do not have restaurants such as McCormick & Kuleto's in our region. No complaints from the out of towners."

"I had a wonderful New Zealand Wild Salmon entree. It was deliciously tender and moist.
The view was not as great as usual due to the haze but looking out at the SF bay always takes my breath away. I ordered only a house salad but it was special because of the bowl made of rice flour wrapper."

"We had a wonderful dining experience on Valentine's Day. Reservations were easy and they got us right in. Even though the restaurant is huge and was crowded, our table was intimate and quiet and we had a wonderful view of the water. Our server was very good as was the food and wine. "We were seated in what appeared to be make shift dining area which was transformed from what appeared to be a banquet room instead of the main dining area. I assume this was due to the influx of reservations for the weekend. Although not necessarily bad, I would have preferred to have been seated elsewhere in the main dining area. The tables were quaint and distracting at times which reduced the romantic appeal a degree."

"We asked for a booth but weren't expecting to be seated near the bar without even a table cloth for Valentine's Day. The lady was served last at the table and the seared Hawaiian Ahi was over-spiced. (I've had the dish there several times before, and it was to die for.) However, our steamed crab was excellent and wish I had ordered that! I missed the chocolate cake dessert that used to be offered, finding the chocolate ganache pie far too dense and rich to eat."

"My dining experience was DREADFUL. This was without question the worst service I have ever had in a restaurant. There is no excuse for: 1. Being at the restaurant on time and having walk-in groups be given a table ahead of you with no explanation. 2. Taking 25 minutes to place a drink order and 20 minutes longer to actually get your drink. 3. An absent waiter; this guy was nowhere to be found most of the night and the other waiters in the area would not help us or find our waiter. 4. Getting tired of asking for water refills because the waiter/bar was so slow on drinks. 5. Food that is billed as outstanding and it being average at best. It has ambience, but there are so many good restaurants in San Francisco that I recommend"

"the whole dinner experience was good, the only draw back was that even with a reservation we still had to wait fifteen minutes. When we were walking to our table, there was probably seven open tables! don't know why they couldn't sit us right away, since we had a reservation. The other part was the price of the food, it was moderate, but the only draw back is we paid around $20 for just three oysters."

"My husband and I celebrated Valentine's Day here. We had made a reservation a few days before. We were running late and called the restaurant. The hostess was very polite on the phone. When we arrived, we were seated right away. I was very happy when we were seated with a great view plus in a quiet area. Our waiter was very gracious. We tried his recommendations in the menu. The wine, the food and the dessert was perfect. Another plus was that parking was adjacent to the restaurant. It was just an elevator ride and they also validated ouir parking. All in all, it was a great Valentine's day for the both of us. I would definetely go back and recommend family and friends to dine here."

"I had a bad experience at McCormick and Kuletos. The service was exceptionally bad - our server was indifferent and it seemed he made special effort to avoid eye contact. We waited 15 minutes before he brought us bread, and another 10 minutes before he took our order. We arrived at the restaurant at 5.30pm, and it was 6.00pm before we were served - and this in a rather empty restaurant! The food was over-rated. The dungeness crab cakes were mushy on the outside and pasty on the inside. The seared tuna was too woody, and the clam linguini was watery, with rubbery clams. It was a bad Valentine's date for me, and I would not recommend it to anyone. The only redeeming feature was the view of Alcatraz."

"The food was outstanding but the service was the worst we have had in a long time. When we looked around it was clear that our waiter was the exception not the norm. Other servers were assiting customers making suggestions and generally looking like they liked being there. Our waiter was clearly unhappy with his job and made it a point not to suggest anything to us. He also made sure he spilt quite a bit of our champagne we had brougt for our Valentine lunch, (Tattinger). He never appologized but instead continually rushed us through our lunch pouring our champaine while we were still sipping our drinks from the bar and had not even orded yet. There are too many people needing jobs the management should look at this."

"My husband and I celebrated our first Valentine's Day here. The restaurant has a great view and the food was excellent. At first when we got our food we were like it's small, but our eyes were being selfish. The food portions were good and so yummy. We didn't even have room for dessert. My husband had the Filet migon and i had the lobster ravolis..it was a special for Valentine's Day. The only thing it is really dark when looking outside, but still romantic. You just see lights, but next time we plan to have lunch b/c we want to see the view. But overall we had a great time. You gotta try the Cosmo Martini. So good."

"the service at the restaurant was extremely dissapointing. We sat at the table for 10 minutes before we were greeted by our server. We placed our appetizer and drink order and waited another 10 min to receive our drinks then another 20 for the appetizer (shrimp cocktail) We had to flag down the waitress to tell her we would like to place our order for dinner. When the food finally arrived it was OK at best... definitely overpriced for what we received. We decided to skip the dessert and cut our losses. Overall the large service staff was litterally running through the restaurant in a furry, but not "doing" anything. We saw several arguments between servers and management over customers... all odd for such a "high class" place."

"Excellent restaurant across street from and overlooking San Francisco Bay, great view. Decor same high level as other McCormick restaurants. Shared steamed clam appetizer for starter, served in nice broth which we soaked up afterwards with bread, very good. Entrees included the crab with mango sauce, very tasty,and the New Zealand salmon, a feature special this night, and a side of polenta, prepared just right, moist inside but cooked thru the way I like it, polenta soft and creamy. For dessert, had the pear sorbet and the key lime pie, good choices to finish our meal. Great wine list to complement your meal choice. We always look forward to eating at McCormick restaurants, in what ever city they are located."

"My mother and I rarely make it into San Francisco. This was her birthday and we had come from the Tutankhamun and the Golden Age of the Pharaohs exhibit at the de Young museum for a late lunch at 1:45 p.m. on a Friday afternoon. The restaurant was very quiet and the view from our window table was pleasant. Overall the food was very good. My mother was disappointed with the preparation of the hangtown fry that she ordered, only because it was not prepared in the traditional version that she anticipated: more oysters and less eggs. I greatly enjoyed my New Zealand King Salmon meal. The Nobilo wine was very nice and went very well with our meals. The traditional New Zealand dessert was a great hit with both of us."

"This steak and seafood house is a tourist delight. The views out to the bay are beautiful and the dining room is designed so almost every table has a decent view. Getting there at sunset and having a window table would make the trip worthwhile even for a jaded-foodie San Franciscan. Service was very good; a little better than most tourist oriented places. "This is a very busy, high energy restaurant. Don't go here if you're looking for a quiet and peaceful dining experience. "My wife and I were entertaining four visitors from Australia. The restaurant accomodated our request for a window table for six. We were seated promptly upon arrival. Bread/butter and ice water with a dish of sliced lemmons were served immediately. Our waiter was very attentive and gracious. He explained the specials of the day as well as other questions from the guests about their choices. Food and drinks arrived promptly and in a timely fashion. Our appetizers and seafood entrees were fresh, well prepared and presented. Everyone enjoyed their meal, the ambiance. The heavy morning rains had cleared up and the sunny view of the San Franciso Bay was to die for! We will definetly come back."

"Brunch with my girlfriends at M&K is always a great experience. This is probably the 6th year we have had our annual get-together here and each time is as good as the last. "We had been here before a couple of times and since each time was great, we decided to make reservations for New Year's Eve. I would recommend reservations for this place since it's always been busy at dinner time - moderate for lunch though. The food was excellent, especially on a night where they seemed to be very, very busy. Our server was very attentive, accommodating, and knowledgeable. He seemed to always be at our table at the right time we needed him. The wine list is very broad and we've always had success with their bottle selection. This was by far one of the highlights of our trip and a guaranteed good meal. We love this place and will continue to come for a meal each time we're in town!!"

"We had a wonderful dinner here for new year's eve! Our reservation was early (6:15PM), and we requested a table facing north toward SF bay. We were seated at a lovely table with beautiful evening views. We took our time in ordering wine, appetizers (fried oysters and the beet salad were great), entrees and dessert (get the Chocolate Box--it's delicious if you're a chocolate foodie!). Everything was delicious! Our waitress (Heather?) was terrific--great attitude, helpful, didn't rush us and had a great sense of humor! I would definitely recommend
this restaurant to anyone who wants to eat near Ghiradelli Square."

"The food was acceptable, but sadly the service was horrible, the wrong appetizers were brought to the table and when we asked the server why, he said they had run out of the dish we ordered, we mentioned that nobody told us anything and they just brought another dish without even asking, the server then replied in a very rude way "I don't know I did not take your order". I complained with the floor manager and asked him to send us another server, another server came to the table, but the manager never went to the table to apologize or double check we were doing fine. I also believe the restaurant prices are those of a fine dining restaurant with the only difference that this restaurant is not even close to a fine dining place."

"The food was very good. However, petrale sole was a little overdone. It was cooked hard and dry in a couple of places rather than tender. We missed the mashed potatoes that used to be served with this dish. The prawns and spaghetti were an interesting combination. However, it was not as pleasant as was anticipated. The spaghetti was rather slippery given the olive oil used in the combination. We still liked the meal but these things sort of stood out. The service was very good. We have been to Kuleto & McCormack's several times. It has always been very good. Our comments on this visit do not detract from our willingness to return at another time. The view is also excellent."

"Lesson Learned: DO NOT go to a place like McCormick & Kuleto's on a holiday. The place was a zoo. With reservations we waited 15 minutes for a 430PM table. Our waiter was pleasant enough, but there was absolutely nothing outstanding about the service although there surely was enough wait staff to go around the packed restaurant. I was asked if I wanted my appetizer and salad separate, they were served together. Server did the unspeakable... cleared plates while others were eating. All in all, a disappointment, I was looking for a nice, quiet place for 4 of us to have Christmas dinner. Perhaps the fault is mine...I should have researched more."

"We had dinner here on Christmas Eve and the service was the worst. Although we arrived on time for our reservations we still had to wait 20 minutes for our table. Once we were seated we did not receive anything to eat for 75 minutes. I had to get up and ask a busboy for some bread. We ordered appetizers and entrees but our entrees arrived before the appetizers which apparantly they forgot. Our sides of garlic mashed arrived when we were almost finished with our entrees. I will never return to this restaurant."

"Food and service were excellent. Went for Christmas dinner and had to wait an extra 10 minutes past our reservation to get seated, however they let us know that when we checked in which was nice. Unfortunately we had a late reservation so they didn't have some of the specials we were looking forward to eating, but then it was Christmas and that is to be expected. "I love this place. The food is always great and so is the service. The waiters always make us feel special, even if we don't order a lot and don't order wine. I know some locals think this place is touristy, but they should get over it and have an enjoyable meal. You can't beat the view either - beautiful anytime of day or year. Went there on Christmas Eve this year, and it felt very festive. If the guy on the cell phone would've shut up, it would've been perfect - but that's not the restaurants fault!"

"Probibly the worse dinner experience we have ever had. Our reservation was for 6:00 pm but we were not seaeted until after 7:00 pm. Our server was so rushed, he made us feel like we were an inconvienience rather than his guest. The food portions were cut in half from any other time we have visited this restaurant (and we have gone here for every special event for years). needless to say, this is the last time we will ever go to McCormick & Kuleto's. We will find another restaurant to celebrate our special events. I hope you guys fix this problem. Otherwise you will need to depend on tourist business and forget the locals."

"Due to the restaurant over-booking on Christmas, we totally ended up bailing on waiting to be seated (despite the reservation we got through OpenTable) and ended up at some Thai place in the Castro.

The Thai food was great, but it wasn't what we had in mind for Christmass dinner (think prime rib).

It was just awful, and the natives were definitely getting restless waiting to hear about their table. It was just entirely TOO STRESSFUL AND UPSETTING, so we paid our $9.00 parking ticket (for nothing) and left.

I hate this place. Never again."

"Our first visit was on Thanks Giving Day, in the evening. It was extremly busy, but dispite this the service was good and firendly. We were not kept waiting for any length of time, the food was cooked well and served hot. There was a reasonable choice on the menu and the atmosphere and decor was great. So much so that we went back the following evening and had another great meal."

"We brought my mom here for her 75th birthday. we made reservations the same day of the event, and they were able to put us in a window table with an awesome view. They even customized the menus to say 'happy 75th birthday,' which was a great touch. And after dinner they brought a special dessert with a candle.The food was great as well as the service."

"This was my first experience making reservations on line.My requests were met and we especially enjoyed the personalized menus.However,our waiter,I believe his name was Michael,was less than attentive.Unfortunately no matter how wonderful everything else was service can ruin the experience.We felt like he was side-tracked even though the restaurant was not that busy.He acted a bit put out or something when we all didn't have champagne(3 out of 4 did).When the 4th person declined the champagne he didn't even ask him what he might want to drink.Our 4th person had to ask for his coffee&then had to ask for cream.He didn't check back after the meal was served & we waited 20 mins.for him to return to ask about dessert.By then we were ready 2 go."

"Good: Food was great. My parents had their "best Chilean Sea Bass" they've ear had. Escargot appertizer is a must try.

Bad: Even though it's the night after Thanksgiving, I expect decent service from M&S...well..
Service was terrible...worst experience I had with M&S (comparing to Houston, Chicago, Boston, NY). Requested for a window table and gave me a table on the second row. The staff then sat anotherparty of 4 in front of us at the window within 5 minutes.
It took me 5 mins to explain to the waiter that I want an Oyster sampler for the 4 of us. Took our appertizer order without getting our drink orders until 10 mins later. Didn't really come by and check with us throughout the dinner.
--Lower ur std and focus on food."

"McCormick & Kuleto's has been a favorite spot for years. The seafood was very good. The view was crystal clear of the bay with sailboats floating up and down in front of us. Definitely ask for a window table."

"Sturgeon was excellent with smoky, applewood bacon flavor. My wife's fish and chips were very mediocre with soggy fries and pretty ordinary fish. Service was excellent, especially since the waiter talked us out of the turkey dinner (it was Thanksgiving). Overall, a good experience, especially for a very busy holiday dinner night."

"Arrived a about 45 minutes early. The restaurant was jammed for Thanksgiving. They said it was not a problem as they had space in a back alcove where they could put tables together. We'd lose our view table, but get seated quickly. It actually took 35 minutes (so we were seated almost at the time as our original reservations, but lost the view). Tables were coming up late for everyone (the restaurant was clearly overbooked). Most were waiting 15-20 minutes past their reservation times (standing outside). The server was very attentive and got things right. Menu was varied. Food came out in reasonable time and was just ok. I like McCormick and Schmicks in most cities and had higher expectations."

"Service was horrible ... waited over 15 min for someone to take our order - finally the bartender came over and took order. After our soup, waiter arrived and asked us what we had ordered and what we were suppose to get next. Our salads came with no dressing (asked for it on the side). Waited another 10min and had to ask 2 more waiters for our salad dressing. Food was fine, but not good enough to make up for incredibly BAD service .. would not go back."

"The host was very friendly and attentive. He made us feel welcome and gave us a great table, in the center of a wall of windows.
We had a great view of the bay, as we were seated right at sunset. Our waiter was very helpful with our food choices, since the
