"The service was great and the food sublime from the cheesy bread sticks and fava dip and the famous lobster pizza. The choice of entrees was exceptional,the Friday special pig was perfect and my wifes' pasta ,she is a pasta professional, claimed it to be one of the best she has ever tasted. The experience was special and the room was casual. The best of both worlds."

"Since happiness is a function of reality and expectations, my critique will be a little pickier than usual due to my significant expectations when going to Scampo. The theme for my meal was "dry". Appropriately so for my Martini, but not for the appetizer (especially the dumplings) and the entree (fish and pasta). The appetizer looked like it had been sitting for awhile and the entree just needed some significant lubrication. My wife's meal did not have those issues and was quite tasty, and we will be back, chaulking this one up to "it can happen anywhere"."

"We had a nice brunch at Scampo with our 3 kids (9,11 and 12). Brunch menu was fine for us, but not as great for the kids. I wish we had the lunch menu available. At 1 pm , the place was very quiet. There was a large post wedding party, but they were in a private room. Service was great. We will return- we really love the dinner menu."

"A bit out of the way at the end of Charles Street in the LIberty Hotel, Scampo is quiet, with a nice bar and a lovely outdoor seating area. Diners were spread across tables, booths and the bar when we dined there. We shared the meatball appetizer which was 3 small tender meatball on flatbread with a rich buttery tomato sauce...it is served with anchovies, which we skipped. I had the Eggs Benedict which were cooked perfectly to my order and my husband had the corned beef sandwich.Service was excellent, attentive but not smothering. We had NO room for dessert but a few tables were sharing the donuts which looked great. Almost forgot, cocktails wee another highlight. If you like Bourbon, try the Gentleman Jack.!"

"Our reservation was for 5:30pm which turned out to be perfect. We were the first table seated in the section. Restaraunt manager was inspecting the flatware and glassware when we arrived! The fish, pork and duck were all superb. Amazing sauces. The staff was extremely helpful and attentive though we did not feel rushed at all. I was extremely impressed with the fact that no plates were removed until everyone had finished eating. That is a first class restraurant!"

"Unfortunately, this was not a good evening. We arrived early at the restaurant, and told the maitre'd we would have a drink at the bar. He said no problem, let me know when youre ready to go to your table. At 7:00 we approached the maitre d again, and he said there was a delay with the table, it should be another 15 minutes . We returned to the bar. 1/2 hour went by and no table. The Maitre D said all he had available was an outside table (it was freezing out) or a high top table in the bar area. It is now 8:00 (an hour after our reservation time) and still no table. We ate at a high top table. They did comp our meal but i made this reservation 2 months in advance and no table was available. Very frustrating."

"Superb food at Scampo. A bit loud, especially with a large party in the outdoor patio area so those looking for a quiet place should look elsewhere. You should come here for memorable food and a lively scene. The crab risotto was outstanding as was the soft shell crab special. The chicken under brick is an interesting twist on a Tuscan classic. Lobster tails were rather tough in the mushroom gnocchi dish and that was a disappointment. The gnocchi were excellent though."

"We thoroughly enjoyed the Boston Foodie Tour of the Back Bay and Beacon Hill - and Scampo was a highlight! We had an amazing thin crust lobster pizza and a beautiful salad with house made mozzarella. The waiter, Matt, selected a wonderful rose' for us!
We returned the next day before flying out to have brunch and were surprised at how quiet it was - but it is a hopping night spot. On the recommendation of our waiter, JD, we tried the lamb pizza and it was fabulous too with goat cheese and mint. The seasonings were excellent. We also tried the soft shelled crab with grits and fried green tomatoes - fab! With our new favorite rose' we weren't sure we needed dessert, but had to share the profiteroles with dulce de leche ice cream. Yay!"

"I had wanted to get to this hotel and its restaurant but just tried it this week. What a great renovation of an old jail..Very creative use of space. Of course, Lydia Shire always delivers and does here at this hot spot. Interesting menu, something for everyone. Met new business friends there. We al enjoyed it."

"Our group of 4 decided to sit outdoors as the location is nice---not on the Boylston Street sidwalk for instance---a treat in Boston. We were old friends meeting together after a very long time & the restaurant is too noisy for pleasant conversation due to the action kitchen, so we opted for outside table. The servers were very nice, as we enjoyed our lunch slowly (we were there almost 3 hours). For this reason, and understanding most people in the US do not dine for 3 hours, I found the table & chairs to be lacking. The table rocked back and forth on the slate flooring (the waiter put a folded napkin under one leg to steady the table) and the chairs (wrought iron - no cushions) were not up to the decor or comfort of the restaurant."

"People meeting at the bar, including the varied and interesting staff. Entertaining when we're overlooking the kitchen, drinks are always good. It's a menu where you need to ask and put your trust in your servers suggestions, we've never been let down, just wish portions were smaller so I could try more! We always look forward to going, hope there are fasion shows again and love the yappy hour, etc!"

"The food was magnificient(spaghetti vongola, two pizzas, gnocchi, 2 desserts, and fresh loose tea), as were the cocktails, and the wine (a silky, reasonably priced Pinot Nero). Kitchen does not take Sunday night off! Flavors were fresh & combinations were unusual but made sense (i.e. spanish anchovy & roasted garlic) But lots of places have great food. But what makes Scampo special is the hosiptality towards an ordinary guest (a non-VIP)- the warm & gracious host staff (enthusiasm seemed real, not fake), the efficient and unobtrusive backwaiters, and finally our wonderful servers, Isabella and Conrad. We start so slow and linger way too long, testing any server's patience, but they made us feel swelcome during those 4.5 hours (sorry :)!"

"Had a delicious dinner at Scampo. Had asked for a quiet table and we were accommodated with a great spot towards the back of the restaurant. The Naan with prosciutto arugula and balsamic was amazing, as were the tandoori scallop starter. Tried the lobster Gnocchi and rapini sausage rigatoni - both were excellent. one member of our party had the duck and raved about it. very nice red wine recommended by the waiter (who was also very nice and attentive). Would go back in a heartbeat - the only problem was trying to choose what to order."

"Chef Lydia Shire has created an inventive, stunning and ever-evolving restaurant with Scampo. This is dining spot is unique. From the paper thin pizzas (the Lobster Pizza will make your mouth water for years to come), to the avant-garde presentation of Calf's Brain as part of the Fritto Misto presentation, to the delicate and precisely prepared fish that seemingly jumped from the sea onto the plate, Chef Shire's culinary artistry and creativity are on constant display. The ambiance, like the food, is like none other. It is lively, at times loud, and upscale casual with just a hint of fun and funk thrown in for good measure. "As always, Scampo was excellent. The food, the wine, everything is top notch. The burrata in particular was oustanding! Our only complaint was that our waiter was not overly attentive and as he served our main course and took away our empty wine bottle, he didn't come back to offer us another and even ignored us several times when we tried to wave him over. When he did return we asked for a specific bottle and he sent the sommelier Nathaniel over who was excellent. He definitely redeemed the service for us, provided excellent recommendations, even wrote the ones we didn't try down for us and refired our food which was cold by the time we finally got our wine. Would highly recommend Scampo to anyone. Thanks Nathaniel!"

I am a regular, having lunch at Scampo frequenty since it opened (probably at least 50+x by now) plus buy gift certificates regularly and have had dinner many time. Had lunch there 2x in the last week or so; one time during Restaurant Week. Thank you for not dumbing down the menu, and thanks for offering a two course lunch. Not to worry, we compensated by 4/5 times each with adult beverages!"

"Let me start with the good.The food was very tasty!I went with a party of 4 and we had 2 apps to split, and 3 pizzas;the artichoke and prosciutto, the clams and bacon, and the potato and sausage.All very good!Now the bad.We walked in to the place at roughly 8:25 for an 8:30 reservation.The lady working the front asked our name and responded with a "should be only a few minutes you can go to the bar for a drink and we'll let you know when your table is ready."About 50 minutes later (around 9:20)we finally go seated for our 8:30 reservation.No appology, no free drink or app, no nothing.Each time we asked to hostess if our table was almost ready she looked at us like we were bothering her.Very unprofessional and very rude.I won't be returning"

"Service outstanding. Was informed about an entree special - John Dory with lobster custard, asparagus with fried sweet potato shavings and a beurre blanc. Sounded fabulous, only to order it and have the waiter come back to tell me they were all out of that special.
The spaghetti bolognase was good but a pale replacement.
We had to move our reservation back by an hour - the staff were very helpful.
