Resto
Resto, French slang for casual restaurant, opened its doors in April 2007. The concept of a laid back neighborhood gathering place with approachable Belgian food in the style of New York, was created by the owner, Christian Pappanicholas. Resto has become a destination in Gramercy Park/Murray Hill for a delicious dinner, weekend brunch or a late night bite. The knowledgeable and friendly staff is well versed in the extensive Belgian beer list and the thoughtful wine list which focuses on a selection of French, Italian and Spanish wines. The menu is crafted using traditional French technique, with an emphasis on seasonal, mostly local, farm fresh ingredients. Resto prides itself on elements like a revolving seasonal menu as well as large format plates such as Cote De Boeuf, Whole Roasted Pig or Lamb. "We had a great meal in Resto, the food was well presented and tasty, but most impressive of all was their list of beers. It was a bit daunting, but the waiter was very knowledgable and helped us pick one that went perfectly with our food. Very enjoyable."

"We arrived looking for snacks and/or a light dinner before a wine tasting that we were headed to. We started off at Cannibal (attached to Resto), where I had a great "orange" wine that I've never had before (Salinia 25 Reasons), and my husband and brother enjoyed one of their many beers. Once inside Resto, we tried the charred octopus salad, the deviled eggs on pork toast, and the wonderful frites. My husband & brother both loved the tete de cochon (pig's head) po'boy as well. The decor is warm and inviting. The service was attentive, and the wine list is very good. If you like good food, wine, and an extensive beer list, this is for you! We'll definitely be back."

"This place knows how to cook (and present) a steak.
The fiancé and I sprung for the cote de bouef. A risky move for a 1st visit, but we were not disappointed. Served on a thick wooden carving board with a freshly roasted head of garlic and spring of thyme, it was just about one of the best steaks I've ever had. The steak was the hero.
We also tried the deviled eggs (very tasty, but the "toast" is quite rich), the arctic char belly tartar (a special, which was deliciously sea-salty) and the fried artichokes (which were fried very crispy with a delicious dip). No complaints.
And then there's the nearly unreasonable beverage options... if you like craft beer, the list is prodigious.
Bravo."

"Took visiting friends who like their food on a Sunday night. Food was up to standard but the wait staff for some reason were all over the place. And the restaurant was not full. In fact my order was forgotten and it took some time to come. I have had good staff experiences at Resto so this was really disappointing and embarrassing with out of town guests."

"Great atmosphere, friendly staff, but the food did not really have much flavor. The moules frites which I would think would be a specialty were bland and the broth was scanty and disappointing. The brussel sprouts were not crispy and also lacked any flavor. I was really disappointed because the prices for this restaurant have also gone up - the steaks are more expensive than most (better) steak places and are not worth the price (at least the one for two)... Definitely save your money for a meal elsewhere- the bar is nice."

"I don't think they teach acoustics in restaurant school. They had the music up loud so everyone tried to talk over it. Once a song finished, the noise level would drop to a comfortable level. As soon as the next song started, the process would repeat. The humor of that was that is was bad 80's music (REO Speedwagon's "'m gonna keep on lovin you" at full volume, Jefferson Starship "We built this city" - yuck!).
The restaurant is all hard surfaces so the sound just bounces everywhere (reverb). They made an attempt with wall panels, but it isn't enough. It's brunch. People are there to talk. Too much noise will drive them away. So will bad music, btw.
The food is very good. They need to fix the sound problem."

"Food is not good. Everything was over salted and had no other flavor. Maybe a decent place to grab a beer, but don't eat there. We shared several small plates and none were good. For instance deviled eggs were a small slice of hard boiled egg white on top of some kind of deep fried, salty thing and then topped with an egg yolk and salt mixture. How do mess up a deviled egg? We had rabbit sausage too. That might as well have been a frozen breakfast sausage- tasted like nothing but salt. This place is serving cafeteria quality food and masquerading as a gastropub."

"Finding Resto was great for the weekends when I don't want to have to trek 20 minutes to have decent brunch. With great food prices, drinks are a little on the high side, it has become a go to in the neighborhood. With something for everyone the eggs are particular favorites, whatever style you prefer them cooked. And the grilled cheese with cheddar, gruyere, bacon and pork belly is the answer to every hungover partiers dreams. Service is fast, and efficient with reservations definitely being the way to go especially for Sunday brunch."

A definite orientation to the meaty end of things (and none the worse for that) and the place even has it's own butcher's shop on the premises that is worth checking out. "The food is delicious, and it's a cute weekend brunch place. The kitchen staff is VERY particular though. They gave me a hard time for swapping toast for hash browns. It's toast. And it comes with every other meal besides the one I wanted. They eventually agreed but charged me an extra dollar for it. A bit ridiculous."

"I made a reservation here for dinner with friends. I arrived late (and told the person confirming my reservation that day that I was traveling) only to find out that they would not serve me dinner because they had another reservation coming in. Apparently the food my friends had was good, but I cannot attest to the quality. The service was horrible including the waitstaff that ignored us, were rude to us, and bumped into us when delivering food to nearby tables. The manager was not at all accommodating and practically yelled at me for trying to order a salad. Oh and that other reservation ... they were nowhere to be found when we left the restaurant."

"Very nice, cozy restaurant. Candle-lit ambiance paired with an enticing menu. Good beer in the bottle and on tap. However, the table layout makes for a bit of a cramped environment. Not sure if it was because of large parties on that particular night. the waitress, while nice, continuously took items off our table without asking if we were finished, which proved to be annoying as we were not always completely done, be it a cocktail or an appetizer plate.
Overall, a very nice experience and affordable."

"Love Resto - and honestly, it's one of the best steaks in NYC with a very approachable and comfortable atmosphere. Don't worry about a stuffy maitre d or needing a jacket and tie, if that's what you're looking for head elsewhere. This is more of a relaxed approach with a limited menu and great beer, not wine, list. I've had almost everything on the menu (not hard with probably 15 total options including specials) and have never been dissapointed. If you can, try and order the roasted pigs head - it's delicious but you've gotta ask to see if Cannibal next door has any to spare. Totally worth it."
