Since first opening its doors in March 1978, The New Yorker has been considered "the" place to dine in downtown Salt Lake City. Located in the renovated 1906 New York Hotel, The New Yorker has consistently been rated as Utah's most popular dining establishment. Zagat has also rated The New Yorker as "tops" in American/traditional cuisine, service, decor, downtown dining, and ambiance.
With lunch and dinner menus that change with the seasons, diners enjoy fresh seafood, prime beef steaks, Utah lamb, crisp seasonal vegetables and luscious desserts. These exceptional menu selections--along with daily specials, unparalleled service, and a wine list that has been granted an award of excellence from Wine Spectator Magazine--attract many regulars, as well as business executives, sports figures, elected officials and celebrities.
The Dining Room serves lunch Monday-Friday and dinner Monday-Saturday. The Cafe at the New Yorker is a casual, comfortable meeting place for lighter dining.
"NOPE. DON'T GO HERE. I don't ever write reviews but I have to sound the alarm on this place. Mediocre at best. Weak service. Poor atmosphere (bright and noisy). At the price, I'm expecting some high quality food if nothing else. We had the filet and the pasta/lobster dish. Both mediocre/bland/overcooked. Honestly I wish I hadn't eaten here. Waste of time and an intended classy dinner experience, not to mention the money. I love good food and don't mind paying for it, but I HATE paying any amount of money for mediocre food. Looking at some of the good reviews this place has gotten, they look more like advertisements, and I wonder who really wrote them. In a city with many great food options, this place is a major disappointment."

"This restaurant has been the upscale standard in Salt Lake City for years, but it is not keeping up with the many other good restaurants in the city. The service was spotty, maybe our waiter was new. The food was ok, but not good enough to warrant the cost. I was looking forward to halibut, but it was covered in a spicy olive based sauce the completely killed the taste of the fish. Another diner had a steak he said was good, but the sides were dull. I'd recommend many other places before this one, especially at this price point."

"The wine list is pricey and lacking wines for seafood dinners. They need to add Muscadet and Albarino grape wines at a minimum. Also reducing the wine pricing to two times retail would be appreciated.
It's still one of my go-to restauranrs."

"The service, hospitality of staff and ambiance were great. My husband's entre' was spectacular, he enjoyed roasted pork shank. I ordered rigatoni with wild boar bolonese. The wild boar meat was very tough and I believe prepared too well done. Other than that, dinner was thoroughly enjoyable."

"Not a bad place to celebrate some event with your wife. Food was tasty and has quite a good wine list. I was last there 30 years ago but was very pleased with the lunch we had."

"I love taking people to the New Yorker that have not been there... They are always impressed with everything there... From the valet service, food, food service, and the ambience of the room. The reputation always has follow through.."

"I was too full to eat an entire entree. I tried a soup, a salad and some of the the ahi tuna. The endive salad was divine. The mushroom soup was okay and the tuna needed a little less ginger. The dessert was out of this world. I would highly recommend getting the almond tort and the molten lava cake.
In general, the ambiance is pretty sweet. The stained glass looked fantastic!"

"The food at the New Yorker restaurant is consistently excellent. I had the osso bucco which was listed as one of their specialties and it was fantastic. The sauce was rich and delicious. This is a complicated dish that I don't make at home so it was a pleasure to find it on their menu. M y husband had the prix fixe dinner and loved the roasted tomato/mozzarella/avocado appetizer and his steak medaillons with 2 different sauces. The creme caramel was its usual delicious self. Lovely place, great service and ambiance. Can't get much better than that!"

"Great restaurant, great food and I love being able to book a reservation online. Borderline overpriced but the food was excellent which takes the sting out of the price."

"Great atmosphere, energetic, romantic, vibrant bar scenece, great food! One complaint, I ordered the New York Prime Steak which is graciously thick (14 oz) well done, however; came out medium rare. Little too pink for my liking."
