"First, the meals are quite expensive. That would not be a problem if it were delicious and the service was gracious. I had been there years ago and enjoyed it very much. That is why I took an out-of-town guest. The gracious atmosphere has disappeared, from the poorly dressed "kids" at the reception podium, to the disinterested waiter. Our lunches took forever to be served and when they finally arrived, they were cold. In the hour and a half that we sat there, our waiter never once came to the table to ask if we needed anything. We had to send a bus person to ask for our check and again when he never came to collect the payment. It's a shame because the menu is inventive and it should be better managed to bring it back to what it was."

"Whenever we are in NYC we plan to have brunch at Norma's. The food and presentations are wonderful. The servers are attentive. You can have a conversation and hear one another speak. The flower(s) on the table are always fresh and lovely. Our server felt that the kitchen was a bit slow, so he kept refilling our orange juice glasses, and brought us a complimentary bowl of fruit and a basket of muffins. Such lovely thoughtfulness. This is what makes Norma's a great place."

"I eat at Norma's all the time and usually enjoy it - until my last meal. The service was awful. I ordered the crepes and my guest had toast. It took about 30 minutes and both were so cold, it was as it they came right out of the Fridge. Go to Rue 57 across the Street..."

"What more can I say? I need to go back immediately. The fresh squeezed orange juice, eggs Benedict with truffle porcini sauce served on artichoke hearts, and the blueberry pancakes were divine, and I can't wait to return and try more. It was a little noisy, but our waiter was delightful, and it was fun to have a shot of the daily smoothie, which that day was some sort of strawberry, banana, melon deliciousness. WELL worth the visit. One of NY's best breakfast spots."

"I am a huge fan of breakfast! Normas has a creative menu and goes beyond your typical eggs, ham and pancake breakfast. Their menu is so creative and puts a twist on all the breakfast staples. Be prepared to pay for it though! We had a party of 6 and our bill (including coffee and OJ) was $300!"

"This is a great place for breakfast. Beware of the waiter asking if you would like a glass of orange juice. It is good, but it is $9.00! They have wonderful french pressed coffee. Everything I saw was just beautiful. I had granola, boring, but it was very good served with lots of fresh berries. My b/f had the eggs benedict and said they were very close to the best he has ever had. It is quite pricey, but very good. The give you a taster of their smoothie, but I guess we looked like we didn't need it, ha ha ha!"

"Was served a grossly unappetizing plate of warm scrambled eggs sitting in a pool of liquid surrounded by wilted, raw cucumbers. Waiter misinformed me about the way in which a salad was prepared, which I know only because the table next to me ordered the salad I inquired about. Disappointing
Enormous portions, extremely loud atmosphere. Servers seem to be overwhelmed."

"I had brunch here, and the food blew me away. It started with a complimentary smoothie 'shot', then my partner had BBQ pulled pork hash with poached eggs, and I had the coconut-rolled, cheesecake-filled french toast with whipped devonshire cream. I couldn't resist trying some of his pulled pork, which was melt in the mouth and perfectly rich and tangy. My french toast was enormous and as decadent as it sounds. Every mouthful was worth it, and we left feeling very satisfied. Great service, and they were happy to change things around on the menu (I had cream instead of ice cream) and were extremely efficient. Lively ambience, although the only downside was that it does have the distinct feel of sitting in a hotel lobby."

"Couldn't believe that everything on this menu was at least $22 for a real entree and $11 for a bowl of grapefruit, really? BUT everything was absolutely delicious, like out of this world delicious. I recommend it for out of towners and special occasions."

"This was my first time at the Meridien. I came from D.C. to celebrate my birthday. I was very excited about having brunch here. Sadly, from the hostess to our server we experienced a lack of hospitality & professionalism. Our server was the worst, very inattentive. Once I had paid the bill he appeared to collect it. He took a few steps and then open the bill to review it. As if to see if I had left him an acceptable tip. My chocolate French toast was soggy. I ask for tomatoes in my omelet, but I received salsa. After this experience I think I will go back to places like Fred's at Barneys, Ritz & The Four Seasons, where I know the food quality & service work together to create a fine dining experience that I was hoping for a the Meridien."

"This was perhaps the biggest letdown of my trip to NY. I had read lots of great reviews on yelp but it wasn't until I checked the zagat that I realized the reality of this restaurant. Its overpriced and overhyped. I got a Belgium waffle (my absolute favorite) for the table and it was soggy and took 45 minutes to come. Not a single person enjoyed their meal. We were all anticipating that it would be very unhealthy. You even receive and email telling you to work out before coming. But I have absolutely no interest in splurging on food that tastes terrible...not one of the four people I brought with me enjoyed their meals--I was so embarrassed at suggesting the place that I offered to pick up the tab for the four of us--just over $200."

"I have never felt so dismissed at a restaurant in this city. We arrived at 11:56 for our reservation for two at 12pm and were told, "Oh sorry there is a back-up so you'll have to wait 5-10 minutes for seating." Okay fine, not a huge inconvenience. We waited the requisite ten minutes only to then go back up the hostess stand and have them say, "We can't seat you yet, we still have a few tables to seat. Sorry." We ended up not being seated until almost 12:30 which I realize is not the biggest deal in the world, but when you took the time to make a reservation and show up on time to then be treated poorly with little more than a lame apology is very disheartening. The food is good at Norma's, but not worth the poor treatment."

"Be prepared to wait even if you have a reservation. Not a great system, but Jen, the hostess is amazing at being pleasant to disgruntled customers, clearing tables, moving chairs, & dealing efficiently with a tough situation. I know this b/c I spent 40 mins watching while I waited for a table. The food is beautiful, delicious & portions are large. Crunchy French toast is very sweet even w/o the carel sauce. Baby potatoes w/ eggs are delicious."

"We were a group of seven. Breakfast was great. The service was very good. Try the arepa and also the lemony pancakes. A big plus was that I requested crispy bacon, and it was perfectly crispy. Coffee is from a French press left on the table for refill."

"This place is incredible. The dishes were stellar (brioche french toast, eggs benedict), and while we were waiting, there was even a nice bar/waiting area for us to stay and relax in. Service was excellent, food was amazing, and the only thing I'd say was a concern was the price - it's a little expensive, so I'd save a trip to this place for special occasions. If you can spend the money, full speed ahead. Enjoy!"

"Be sure to look for Le Parker Meridien, not Norma's, I walked right past it! Mango and papaya crepes were incredible. And the coffee (french press, pot is left on your table) was exactly what I needed...strong and flavorful. Only negative was that the portions are gigantic! If we had a fridge in our hotel this would not be a negative, but so much was wasted because we couldn't take leftovers. It's not inexpensive, $23 for the crepes, but a really nice treat for breakfast!"

"Beautiful place to eat. Loved the free refills on fresh orange juice. Would have liked something a little extra in acknowledgement of the holiday but enjoyed every moment of the experience. Excellent service - welcoming - daughter one hour late for brunch and as soon as she got there they let us in immediately. Came from Salt Lake City and this was a special experience for me. Thanks Norma's!"

"We had an amazing mother's day brunch at Norma's. The menu is so great, it was hard picking what to get! My only complaints are that they don't serve alcohol and we had a 3pm reservation and they really rushed us taking our order. If that is when the kitchen closes, they shouldn't have taken my reservation."

"The emails were wonderful, and we were very much looking forward to a high-end dining experience. Everything was disappointing. No tablecloths, paper napkins, overcooked, luke warm food, and screaming children did not make for a pleasant time. We have had better prepared food for a fraction of the cost at other hotel coffee shops in the city. Our waiter was great. He could not make up for the crowded, noisy, unattractive atmosphere. We would not return. There were 4 of us, each ordering something different. Best was the duck confit -a large serving size. None of the other 3 dishes (dumplings, ranchos hueves, tortillas with scrambled egg) are even worth mentioning."

"We had a 1pm reservation but waited 15-20 minutes to be seated. We didn't mind since it became clear that the staff simply do not rush patrons out, a nice change! Massive portions of very good breakfast items with a twist. The Chocolate Decadence French Toast was a tad overrated, but the waffles were excellent, as were the fruits, Devonshire cream, freshly squeezed OJ and even the complementary "shot" of the smoothie of the day. Come hungry, but bring a fat wallet, too. To be fair, the prices are in line with the huge portions and very good quality. Noise level is high, but you can conduct a conversation."

"For the first time, a credit card was required for reservation. (The terms stated 2hour notice for cancellation, $25 fee if no show, and the stated a cancellation date was 2 DAYS prior!)We were 6 min early, and told to go wait in lobby. 15 min after our reservation we were seated despite tables sitting open. No offer of fresh squeezed orange juice, normally passed around, our glasses were simply removed from table. Tea was not compressed, leaves we're loose in pot, I was chastised and charged. Our meals came 50 minutes later.... WITH THE CHECK.I was so embarrassed... My poor daughter had to pay for diner quality service and an 1/8 of the foodie experience!Time to find a new spot!!!"

"I love this place and always try to come here when I'm in NYC. The cooking staff of late hasn't been living up to the previous standard nor the high prices. This is very expensive even by NYC standards. It would be completely worth it if the food were always perfect. I still come here hoping there's a devoted chef in the kitchen that day. It happens!"

"I love breakfast and Norma's has a great breakfast. I make sure I have at least one breakfast meeting at Norma's when I am in NYC. They just do a great job. The only knock is sometimes the service levels can degrade based on how full they are at the time. For example, two of us ordered hot chocolate and it took a while to receive them. This year we had waffles, crepes, an omlet and pancakes and everyone was satisfied (it is a good bit of food also) with their selections."

"I tried to contact Norma's with this criticism directly but there is no contact info on their site. Alas, I must address the issues in this public forum. This is an awesome place, a monument to breakfast itself. That said, their pancakes have been lame the last few times. I don't eat pancakes much so I wait til I'm in NYC to get them at Norma's as a special occasion. The last few times the various kinds pancakes were either gummy and mushy or stiff like airline pancakes. Really very disappointing. It tells me they don't have people in the kitchen who know what they're doing as much as they used to , say last year. This is how it goes in NYC; great restaurants are created and then the staff changes."

"Stayed at Le Parker Meridian four nights. Dined at Norma's for breakfast with kids. Wait staff harried but friendly; food good. Greeter lady not friendly. Day after day same standoffish manner and snobby. She totally recognized me and the kids; we even tried a bit of banter; but no dice, she was just not that nice! She didn't cotton much to my not wanting to give my first and last name on the first day - after determining that we had no reservation, it was early Friday, restaurant was empty. I declined in friendly way for sake of privacy and also there were some people behind us. Besides, she had no name tag and didn't offer her name. So why should I give mine? Maybe she is just burned out? The place is always busy. :("

"While the food at Norma's is delicious, the service is slow. We were seated for 15 minutes before someone took our drink orders. It took another 45 minutes between ordering our food and receiving it.
Norma's certainly knows how to do breakfast foods right (with an interesting twist), but it's not the place to go if hungry because of the wait."

"Have to admit that we ate here twice on the same 5 day trip - first time had the scrambled egg pot stickers and eggs florentine - both divine. So flavorful, served hot, all sauces and accompaniments were perfect. Second visit had the berry waffles and quesidilla - waffle was perfect, eggs were so creamy. Can't imagine how they get it right every time! Would like to say "stay awy" because it's always so busy, but we made reservations both time, and both were honored within 5 minutes of the reserved time. Lovely waiter - natural, happy, charming, and helpful. You will not be disappointed!"

"Nice to go to at least once, but the prices are extremely high for food that you can get somewhere else. Both were delicious."

"The menu looked terrific. Thought I'd rave. Instead I'm terribly disappointed. The chefs clearly put a lot of effort into presentation. The breakfasts looked fabulous as they came out of the kitchen - but alas, they were nothing special to eat. The whole-grain toast was the best item on our table. We didn't eat the sweet dishes - so maybe that's where Norma's shines. But at over $80 for the two of us, we won't be going back. If you want an expensive breakfast to remember, I suggest you try Sarabeth's instead."

"Have been wanting to try this place for a while and decided to take my cousin that was visiting from out of town. Looks like your basic hotel restaurant, nothing to it. The food was below average, I ordered the eggs florentine and they had a half pound of spinach (which grossed me out) and my cousin has the chocolate crepe which was soggy. I would definitely not come back and not recommend it either. It definitely is hyped up for nothing, save your money and go somewhere else. The only good thing about it was Orlando our waiter was extremely nice."

"I've stayed at The Parker for business many many times, and I always wish they would start over on the restaurant. It is very unpredictable. This time, it was 11:45 and the waiter seemed completely annoyed with me for wanting to order from their very limited lunch menu, which they only serve from noon onward (in NYC, that seems crazy to me). He left me there, without water, for a full ten minutes so I decided to go somewhere else. This is a major hotel, why don't they have a decent restaurant that serves three meals?"
