"Excellent jazz club. Charges only an admission fee, no minimum. You can actually plan on having dinner there because the food is from Blue Smoke upstairs: good barbeque, burgers, calamari, peanuts. Seating is not packed in; get there 15 mins. before doors open for each show (e.g., 8:30 for the 9:30 show), and you'll have your choice of seats."

"I loved this place! The food was good, the music was fantastic. I wish the music set was longer but I would definitely recommend this to music lovers. Also, the cover charge is added to your bill at the end of the show."

"Jazz Standard is great place to take a date, but not a first date because conversation should remain at a whisper as a sign of respect to the musicians and the audience. It's tough to really enjoy that great Blue Smoke BBQ when the show is going on. I recommend eating the meal at Blue Smoke and then go to Jazz Standard for the show and drinks.

We went for Valentine's Day. If you go on that day, then get their at least 30-45 minutes early for your reservation to get good seats and expect a $30 cover charge (we didn't).

I was disappointed to find that the cover charge was $30 only after we got to the reservation desk. I felt baited. I'm very disappointed in this regard. This is not what I expect from Danny Meyer restaurant."

"Since I had never been to this venue before I relied on the communication from them which said " your table will be held up to 30 mins prior to showtime" I took this to mean that I could arrive 30 mins earlier than my reservation time, which was the showtime and get my table. This was not the case, when I arrived 30 minutes before showtime there were only a couple of tables not occupied and they were all blocked views of the stage. I think that they should communicate with you that the seating is first come first serve and the doors open at whatever time. I saw that this was the case for the 2nd show as we left, all the people were lined up for the show at least an hour before showtime. The musicians were great, food mediocre."

"The food here is decent - nothing to write home about but not horrible - but what you really go here for is the jazz. When it's packed there's a great foot-tapping vibe, and when it's not as full, it's a fabulous place to curl up with your date, share some drinks and enjoy really spectacular live music. Listed the noise level as energetic, but only when there's music playing. Before the set started, the room was calm, quiet and anticipatory."

"Arrived at 7:30 on the dot, waiter brought us menus for food, but never came back to take our order. The show started and they never came back to check on us. After the 1 hour show, we were starving and informed that we could no longer order food as they were clearing out the crowd for the next show. Will never come back."

"The Jazz Standard remains very high on the list of wonderful NYC jazz clubs. Musicians like to perform here and patrons come from all over the world to hear their favorite groups while dining on Danny Meyer's barbecue from the upstairs Blue Smoke. Sets often sell out so reservations are advised even if you make them a few hours before. While the barbecue is excellent so too is the fish."
