"Wonderful restaurant; I give relatively few 5* overall ratings. I take guests there to enjoy the amazing view and ambience but the seafood always turns out to be excellent as well. From MT washington, Pittsburgh is one of the most beautiful cities in the country."

"Outstanding service, GREAT food, a menu that can satisfy anyone's specific taste, and a priceless view of the city. This alone is worth of a Five Star rating, but the staff does not stop there. Accommodating special requests and dietary restrictions are second nature to the fantastic team at MBFG. A special shout-out to Alexis for providing the special touches that made our 25th wedding anniversary dinner a priceless memory. "My husband and I eat at Monterey Bay any chance we get and we are never disappointed. This is by far our favorite restaurant! The seafood is amazing, the service is wonderful and the management always makes a point to stop by and ask how the dinner is going. It is expensive but worth it!"

"Monterey Bay is a very pretty restaurant. This is the second time I've been there, and I have an interesting perspective because I do not like seafood. They always work with the customer to ensure food for everyone, and they always seems to have at least a few non-seafood options. There was no massive seafood smell in the restaurant this time, which I appreciated. Our server was excellent. I find the wine list to be very pricey. The food prices are moderate to high but the food is good and you're paying for the view. The service is high-class, but I will say I think it stinks you can't request a window seat. My reservation was made a month in advance, and yet if we had wanted one, we would have had to wait an additional hour +!"

"Great View, Great Food, Great Wine List, Great Service. This restaurant has it all. Our table had Ahi Tuna, Crabcakes, and the Chef's Special Halibut. Each dish was cooked to perfection. We sat 2 rows back from the windows and still had a great view of the entire city. The manager came by to check on us twice and delivered our wine to us. Nothing in Pittsbrugh compares."

"My wife and I had a rare date night. Had no problem getting reservations through Open Table.
Started with fresh Oysters on the half shell and "Hong Kong Style" steamed mussels. Our wine for the evening was a 2009 Chalk Hill Pinot Gris ... excellent finish.
Our main entreés were shared between stuffed scallops with crab meat on a bed of lobster sauce and Ahi, seared "sashimi style".
After dinner we shared chocolate truffle cake with a 10 year old Cockburn port. Service was excellent, the right balance of attention and privacy. Michael was outstanding. Highly recommend."

"Took our parents here for their 40th wedding anniversary. Not only did we end up with the best seat in the house, overlooking downtown Pittsburgh, the manager came over to wish my parents a happy anniversary and even sent them a dessert on the house. We just went there because it was a special occasion and wanted a great meal and the staff really went above and beyond. Everyone enjoyed their meals, the sea bass was phenomenal, but I really have to commend them on making the celebration of a special occasion truly magnificent."

"Since I moved to Pittsburgh a few years ago many have told me this WAS their favorite restaurant, but no longer. I was curious and finally went for lunch the other day. The location and view are great raw material. Unfortunately when I got off the elevator to the restaurant I stepped into the 1980's. The decor is very dated and looks run down, especially on a sunny spring afternoon. There were only two other tables seated but the service was very slow. I love seafood but the fish preparations were also dated and uninspired. With so many new and creative restaurants in town there is no reason to go to Monteray Bay for a meal."

"Our food was very good and the service too. However, the decor needs updated. Too dated. In addition, our table was right in front of the service area (second set of tables behing the window view) and it wasn't very pleasant to see all the activity at that section. some type of divider needs to be placed so that quests are not subject to that activity.

"What a lovely idea to take the incline up to eat here. Great views at really any table. Service was excellent. Menu pricy. French onion soup one of the highlights. Menu is a la carte so choose carefully. Fried rice was plentiful bit a little bland. Seared scallops worth the price. The brochette item is good only if you like tons of vegetables; came with only 3 shrimp and scallops. The menu didn't describe that correctly but the manager did an amazing job rectifying the situation and immediately replaced entree with another! She was professional and very accommodating!"

"My husband and I have dined at Monterey Bay many times in the past and the service was always exceptional. However, our last experience was anything but pleasurable. The service was mediocre, at best, with our waiter forgetting to bring something we had asked for and not cleaning the table between courses. We, unfortunately, did not have the pleasure of experienced wait staff as the diners seated around us. We were also surprised and disappointed to see that the sides once included with your meal are now a la carte. For the amount money spent on our meal, we were very disappointed with our dining experience. It is unlikely we will dine there again."
