"Great atmosphere and bar scene. Food was excellent and delicious. Portion size was a little on the smaller size and this was also true for the wine pours, but I would still highly recommend this restaurant. Perfect place for a date or if you wanted a good bar scene with dinner. The huge long tables would also make this an ideal choice for big groups."

"Love the food - healthy, fresh, diverse menu selection. The service is awesome, and I like that they note return visits. Great choice of wines by the glass, and a generous pour. The only drawback is the noise level when they crank up the music in the bar, which may be the reason they arent busier. Even so, it's still my favorite neighborhood restaurant."

"We dined at Trace for our 10 year engagement anniversary. First time dining there since they refreshed the space and changed over from previous XYZ. Food and Service were truly Outstanding. In terms of ambiance, we both preferred the previous XPZ vibe better. Seems a bit too cool and austere for us. Doesn't quite match the warm you get from the staff and menu."

"Went to Trace for a late brunch (they close at 2 p.m.) on a Sunday. Good food, nice table, good service, but loud music throughout. I think they even had a DJ, like it's a nightclub where they happen to serve food. Another shock was paying $6 for a glass of apple juice. Not a gallon, just a 1 cup of apple juice, for $6, no refills. Crazy. If we hadn't got a large discount for being SPG members, I would have been very annoyed. At this rate, I was able to appreciate the poached eggs and country chicken sandwich for the lovely dishes they were. Perhaps if they turned the music down, I might even return to try something else from their menu."

"The food here was really tasty. There's a reason for all the photos of the yellowtail appetizer: it's beautiful, not too big, and the kumquat plays off the richness of the fish wonderfully. The pork shoulder with gnocchi was killer as well. And, the red burgundy we had with it was a delicious match. My only complaint is that for such a slow evening (only a few tables seated), the service was a bit on the slow side."

"Trace is the restaurant in the W hotel. They have a DJ playing tunes, at least on Friday night. It is a "happening place". The food was very good but the service was not on par with the quality of the food. Certainly worth a visit and then stay for the action at the bar!"

"Very surprised at how much we enjoyed Trace. We live in a city with a Trace which is good, but seems to be hit or miss. As Trace bases its menu on local food and ingredients, we decided to try it. The food was outstanding and the service was excellent. If our Trace was consistently this good, I would eat there evert night. Highly recommend."

"Everything we had to eat was great, truly delicious. The price was about what you would expect for a hotel restaurant, so a bit more than most places. The wine pairings were perfect, on par with the food. Our table was by the window which was nice, thought the tables were rather close together. We were hoping for a relaxing meal but we felt a little rushed by the servers, though the food makes up for it."

"- Poor service: water was not replenished (my glass was empty for half the meal), dessert plates were taken away before dessert arrived. Waiter asked for order after we had just placed order with another waiter! Also had to ask for wine and cocktail menu when the waiter asked us for our drink order! Amateurish stuff.
- Average food: chicken meatball appetizer was good. The flatbreads and dessert were average and not something I'd expect to find at a higher end establishment like this.
- Decor and ambience was good. It's a shame the food and service do not match."

"Great food but I was let down by the service. When you go to a restaurant like Trace you expect the service to be just as good as the food; it helps with the entire experience and you walk away not minding that the food was on the expensive side. The service was nice when we got it; but long lag times between taking orders, dropping off drinks, coming to see if we wanted to order dessert...I found myself looking for our server several times, which was annoying."

"The food at Trace was excellent as was the service. Trace really achieves their mission (see their web page) this with delicate seasoning and extremely fresh ingredients. They actually have bee hives on the roof from which they get their own honey. My wife and I shared the pickled beet salad, which was excellent, and we had the Duck Breast and Petrale Sole. Although a little pricey, you certainly get more than what you pay for--the most memorable meal of our 5 days in San Francisco. There is a spectacular 3 story fiber optic sculpture in the lobby, well worth a trip there just to see it. The only drawback was a second story bar that was quite loud, even in the first floor dining area."

"Trace is next to the bar area in the W Hotel. It's a chic restaurant with delicious food and impeccable service. We planned to meet colleagues for cocktails before dining with them at Trace, but the bar area was so loud with music and people we felt like we were in a nightclub and had to shout to be heard. The hostess at Trace graciously let us in for our reservation an hour early and placed us in a walled-off dining area - the most quiet part of the room. It worked out well, but we still had some noise to compete with. While I won't choose Trace for a business meeting again, it is certainly a great place to dine with friends."

"Went to celebrate my wife's birthday. When we arrived, the restaurant was not yet open. We started with a drink at the bar. When we were seated, the waiter (can't remember his name) recommended the shared pork and butter lettuce, which we ordered both. They were both very delicious. For dinner we had the flat iron steak and the petrale sole. Again, not disapponted. I did mention to him in passing we were celebrating her birthday and at dessert time, he brought a complimentary dessert, with the plate decorated with Happy birthday writing in chocolate. The meal was a little pricey, but all in all it was a great experience. I would go back again."

"All in all it was nice. The hostess would not seat us until all 4 in our party arrived. The chairs at the long tall tables were uncomfortable and we were not huge fans of the joint seating"
