La Ciccia is a cozy and intimate restaurant located on the edge of Noe Valley. Husband and wife owners, Massimiliano Conti and Lorella Degan work together to take you to a culinary journey through the Italian island of Sardinia. The chef is committed to use the freshest and the most authentic ingredients from his native island, resulting in pungent, lively, flavorful food. The all Italian wine list,170 labels selection represent every Region with more than a quarter devote to Sardinia in order to pair the traditional earthy flavors as well seafood influence of Sardinia cuisine. La Ciccia is a tribute to Sardinia an experience not to be missed.

"The pizza Sarda may be the best pizza in the city. Nothing fancy, just great flavors on a modestly-adorned pie. A refreshing change from the high altitude pizzas that get served around town...

Also tried the tripe which was fantastic! I am not a fan of tripe, didn't grow up with it, and it wouldn't be my first choice, but the server described it and I figured I would give it a try. Amazing flavors! It was a special on the menu, but if they had it again when I was there, I would definitely order it.

In my opinion, the first three sections of the menu - appetizers, pastas, pizzas - are more interesting than the main courses. Go with a group and try everything - you won't be disappointed."

"We have been many times. We were first enchanted by one of the owners Lorella. She is so personable and attentive while being easy and fun. Once we had the Pizza Sarda we were hooked. The crust, tomatoes and salt cured capers make for an incredibly simple but outstanding pie.

The wine list is great and we just let Lorella choose as she knows us so well by now.

This is truly a gem. Once you find the items you love I think it'll be one of your gems too."

"This was my 2nd visit to La Ciccia. My first review rated it outstanding. I have to retract that rating. I was completely underwhelmed by the food. We started with calamari, which was cooked well, but swimming in oil and garlic, and a special appetizer of burrata and early fava beans. The burrata was very bland and the beans were steamed with no dressing--both could have used salt and drizzled EVOO. We had the special pasta course of rigatoni with beef and sausage ragu. Again, the dish was bland and unseasoned--in desperate need of salt, pepper, and some herbs. We ended by sharing a trio of sorbet (mango, pear, and blood orange, which were quite good). Are there different cooks on different nights? Why the unevenness in the kitchen?"

"Would like to give 41/2 stars. Terrific meal. Perfect textures and lots of flavor; but the chef still keeps the focus on the fresh primary ingredient of each dish. We already have a reservation for next week. If available, we will again have the same appetizers: the roasted calamari and the whole fava beans with pecorino. We will also try some new dishes based on the recommendation of some helpful regulars who sat at the table next to ours. The wine list was limited to Italian and Sardinian wines, but offered a lot of wonderful options. The server was very helpful, knowledgeable and enthusiastic. Parking in this neighborhood can be difficult, but the J church stops right in front of the restaurant."

"This was our second visit. The food was wonderful. The food reflects great attention to detail. The portions are more generous than many other restaurants. Our server was excellent. The wine list is great -- you should do some research ahead of time to learn about the different wines and producers (though the on-line wine list doesn't list prices). Some dessert wines on the menu would be nice. If you make a reservation, ask not to be seated right by the kitchen, if you care."

"This neighborhood Sardinian restaurant serves outstanding plates of food you won't find in most Italian restaurants -- fregola with cured tuna heart, octopus stewed with tomatoes, spaghetti with bottarga. "Good not great sums it up for me. The ingredients in each dish were clearly fresh and high quality. The two main disappointments were: 1) each dish lacked an acidity -- begged for a splash of lemon to cut the richness; and 2) the noise level was incredibly high. The folks sitting next to us who have been several times before also noted it was the loudest they had heard it. I wouldn't run back but if someone else suggested to go I'd give it another try."

"My wife and I went for our wedding anniversary. The staff was gracious, friendly and treated us like family, but better. The food was complex, but hearty. I would recommend this to anyone who loves the taste of something different. The squid was amazing, and I'm the kind of person who thinks squid should only be used as bait, but not anymore. They hooked me. Sorry, this is my first review."

"This is not the run of the mill Italian restaurant--very authentic Sardinian food. Goat sugu pasta was fantastic! Chef-owner and hostess-owner make sure that patrons are comfortable. Small place and quite noisy, so not for a romantic dinner but it is definitely cozy and homey in a sophisticated way. Service could have been a bit more attentive...husband ordered a glass of wine and it never came--we decided not to ask for it and there was never an apology, even though they did not include it in the bill."

"I had only good things about La Ciccia, so was excited about finally going there for dinner. We were warmly greeted by the hostess and were promptly sat at a cozy table. There were four of us for dinner and we decided that we wanted to sample as many different dishes as possible. We got a mix of appetizers, first courses, pizza and main courses and were continually astonished that every single one was spot on. It was difficult to choose a favorite as we enjoyed every item. I have to say that they really know how to cook seafood perfectly. The calamari was very tender and the Spaghittusu cun Allu Ollu e Bottariga was distinctively tasty. The lamb sirloin was melt in your mouth good too. I could go on and on. Needless to say, I will be back."

"We went to La Ciccia to celebrate our anniversary, and had a great night. The octopus (daily appetizer special) was really great, we shared the great gnocchetti with pork meats and and pecorine, and had a good lamb )although enormous portion). The 2000 Barolo "Bussia" Azienda Agricola Prunotto worked well ith the 1st cource and main, although maybe a little too "hard" in my taste, especially considering the age. The really great service means that they deserve 4 stars, which I dont give easily."

"Terrific fare. The four of us ordered about seven different dishes, and all were delectable, especially the baby squid in spicy tomato sauce. The sauces were terrific -- we went through two baskets of bread mopping up the last of them. The service was excellent, and the wine list is extraordinary, with about two dozen wines from Sardinia. We have been to La Ciccia about five times now, and it's better each time we go. Scary."

"La Ciccia is such an outstanding find that we ate there--gloriously, it may be said--twice last week. It serves what we believe to be the best Italian cibo outside of the boot and its islands. We started with perfect antipasti: tripe in tomato sauce on the first night, and sardines,soup, and octopus on the second. Nothing tasted like anything we'd ever had... and that's a plus! Delicate seasoning, great textures, WOW!! As a primo, the spaghetti with bottarga is succulent; it brings back memories of the sea and childhood... I can't saY ENOUGH. Two other pastas we tasted were similarly pleasing, but this spaghetti is the one that's the keeper!! And the lovely lamb secondo, with the just-right spinach contorni... I'll be there again

"Excellent meal. Even though the restaurant specializes in seafood, it offered the rare opportunity to eat Bay Area-raised lamb in a generous and delicious serving.

I had to ask where it came from. I told the server the restaurant should be letting diners know when it's serving something special--we aren't mind readers and I certainly wouldn't have ordered it if I hadn't asked its origins.

The restaurant also doesn't advertize its policy of serving local seafood, another admirable practice too few follow.

Portions were extremely generous, Italian rose & '04 Barbera exceptional. Servers were very kind and helpful."

"This is the third time we have eaten here and it is always a memorable meal. The husband/chef and wife/front of the house are wonderful, the staff is friendly and knowledgeable, and the food is fabulous. Though the room isn't chic and tables are tightly packed, the atmosphere is warm and inviting."

"Our dinner at La Ciccia was wonderful. However, I still can't get over why they charge $2.00 for olive oil to go with their bread. If I'm spending close to $100 for a dinner, I just don't want to be thinking about paying $2.00 every time I want some olive oil to dip into.

I'll ask about an olive oil corkage fee next time I go."

"My husband and I had dinner to celebrate our anniversary. As we were taken to our table, the hostess brought us two glasses of champagne to celebrate the occasion!
The wait staff was very knowledgeable about the menu and was very attentive to our needs.
Well seasoned, and perfectly cooked whole fish, al dente homemade pasta that we loved, seasoned with tons of garlic and shaved cheese.
At the end of our dinner, they served us a special dessert with a candle to further celebrate our anniversary."

"La Ciccia is one of our favorite restaurants in the City. Lorella (co-owner and hostess) gives us a warm welcome every time we dine there. Massimiliano (chef and co-owner) prepares delicious meals from Sardegna, Italy. The waiting staff are attentive and are knowledgeable about the dishes; and make good suggestions on which wines go best with each dish.

The fish dishes are simple yet superb. We also enjoy their pastas. Our Italian friends claim that their pizzas are the "real McCoy".

We congratulate Lorella and Massimiliano on their growing clientele; and at the same time we bemoan the fact that it is becoming more difficult to get a reservation because of the restaurant's growing popularity."

"We had a minor issue over seating - they requested we change tables to accomodate a larger party. All handled with the maximum of grace & coutesy. It was a wonderful meal and we were treated like family. As out-of-towners, we wish they were in our home town as we would be regulars."
