"I return to Petit Robert once or twice a year hoping to adopt it as a neighborhood gem, but each time I go I am turned off by the sketchy service. I would think that a restaurant which has been around as long as PR has would have its act together, but no. It all boils down to timing. Every time I go, there's a frantic sensibility as if they are understaffed or something. Things arrive a little too late. Service is always one step behind. Drinks are out of synch with my app and meals. When the server returns to check on us, she's out of breath, and far too late. Where have you been? I think. Where's my second drink? Actually, forget it, I'm done eating. I'm afraid to order dessert and coffee. One will be out of synch."

"Absolutely the worst restaurant experience I have had. After we got the menu it was taken away and given another menu with the explanation that they are changing menus. We had to wait forever for our order to arrive only to find out, that there was a mixup. The salad was not what we ordered. My soup was not what I ordered. I got another soup and guess what it was still not what I ordered. By that time others finished their salads so I could not have my soup (I wonder if they had it at all?). The second meal was very late too. After the long wait a went to find the server and begged for our food. We had a business dinner and I did not want to complain in front of our guests."

"We've frequented Petit Robert nearly every time we've been to Boston in the past three years, visiting my son at college. It's a quintessential French Bistro that has it all-exceptional food, ambiance and service. As opposed to so many new trendy places that have opened around the city, this place has retained a genunine classic character. My favorites are the coq au vin and boef bourguignon, although my son always orders the steak. Desserts are all great. The prices are very reasonable, with most entrees under $25, adhering to the original concept of a bistro as a place for the everyman. I highly recommend it and have found no better eatery in the city."

"This is a classic bistro and one of those"finds" you experience only once in a while. Food is excellent, service is good, wine list is fine (we had a house carafe and it was perfect), and very intimate dining. The latter reminds me of New York or Paris spots, where the tables are close together and all the conversations become intermingled. If you want a romantic table secluded in a spot where no one can see you, this is not the place. However, we have been there twice, once for a late lunch on a Sunday where we had the pleasure of sitting in the front table by the windows and that offers the best for a private conversation. For dinner, we were on the bench row of tables with neighbors on either side, but that worked fine."

"I made a reservation for a three course lunch for restaurant week (beginning 3/17). The reservation was confirmed by Open Table on 3/16, and I even called the restaurant. When our party of 4 arrived, we were informed that they were not prepared for restaurant week on 3/17. They were rude, did not offer us an ulternative and seemed not to even care. We decided to eat there because my friend is disabled and it would have been too difficult for him to walk to another restaurant. The waiters rushed us & were not even cordial. ( the restaurant was empty, only two tables being occupied). We did not order drinks and each had a main meal. We paid and left and though the food was good, we will never go back."

"I do like this restaurant and frequent it often since I live a couple of blocks away. But this is the second time in a row where my dinner companion's meal was not up to par - brought out luke warm whereas my dinner was hot. But I'll go again........."

"We were disappointed by the behavior of the manager, a french woman. We had ordered a desert that takes about 25 minutes to prepare. Because we had a concert, we asked ahead of time whether they would be able to manage and after inquiring with the kitchen, the waitress (another person) said that it would work out. But, then it took more than 35 minutes, and another desert that we ordered came even later. The manager slammed the second desert on the table, a rather rude behavior, instead of apologizing."

"I found the restaurant to be very small and cramped. You have to walk through the kitchen to get to the main dining area, and the tables are small and on top of eachother. The entrees were appetizer-sized, and I left hungry. Our waiter "tried not to bother us" but actually ignored us. On the plus side, it was dark and cozy, a nice place to chat."

"We didnt like passing by the kitchen to get into the dining room. Too hectic there. The staff did not seem experienced... very green; the casulet dish was WAY too rich to enjoy. When we were seated, the dining room was just about empty but we were seated 1 ft from another table that was occupied. Why when the whole dining room was practically empty?"

"This was my first time at this restaurant. All I can say is that food was rather nice while the service took extremely to heart the "French experience" as it took nearly 1h30 to get our main entree but otherwise it is a nice place to mix up from the rather cookie cutter eateries in the South End."

"decent bistro food and good service, though not worth the raves that some give it. On a recent visit, venison was dry but OK; short ribs very good but not at all the "boeuf bourgignon" on the menu; salmon excellent. Deserts also good, though profiterolle was very heavy. Average wine list, but some good and reasonable ones to be found. In sum, not at all a bad place, but nothing special."

"This was an excellent spot and just minutes into the south end. Great for those looking to eat in Back Bay or South end. Make sure you have a reservation during the winter, otherwise they will seat you by the door, which is always opening due to being popular.
They start you off with amazingly fresh French Baguettes with butter.
