"We went for Sunday brunch. $37.50 for an appetizer, an entree and all the Bloody Marys you can drink. The make-your-own Bloody Mary bar is fun, with lots of ingredients to try.
My wife ordered the quiche appetizer and I had the smoked sturgeon. I liked them both, but my wife was not a fan of the quiche, as it was deconstructed and more like a soufflé. My entree was a steak salad. The steak (hanger?) was thinly cut and topped by greens. There were 4 small Japanese omelette pieces next to the salad. What was the relation of the steak salad to the egg?
My wife had the French toast bread pudding. It's a big portion and quite sweet, especially with a Bloody Mary.
Our server was very inattentive; we had to look for her more than once."

"We needed a quick bite before heading over to the Segerstrom for a concert and CP's did a great job of taking our order quickly, getting the food out quickly (but still well presented and spaced out appropriately). The food was above average, nice blends of multi-layered sauces to complement the main food groups. The drink menu has some delicious options and desert was tasty. So Cal folk generally like it safe and comfortable (that's why they live here) and the same is true of most restaurants including Cps. That being said, it was a great experience and I would do it again."

"Good service but unfortunately poor food from this restaurant. The braised short ribs were tough. The faves bean appetizer needs to be removed from the menu immediaitely and someone needs to tech the chef how to poach an egg. The only bright spot was the goats milk cheesecake. Very nice. However the Madeline's (I can make better) were s soggy.
Our servers wre very nice and the sommelier was very helpful. The wait for food from the kitchen was so long that you nap between courses.
Maybe the fact that the restaurant was empty for a Saturday night is an indication of how poor a food place this has become. Maybe it is time to either get a new chef or close up and let some exciting new place with a fresher and better menu move in"

"The dishes are excellent. A good blend of classics and creativity. However, prices are just too high for what you get. Salads and small plates are reasonable. Entrees are ridiculous. And it shows in the patrons -- the bar is crazy crowded and there is NO ONE in the main restaurant."

"My wife and I went for a date night away from the kids. Everything was fantastic, although one thing on the small plates menu, the octopus, just blew away everything else we ate the rest of the night. I have never had octopus to tender and flavorful in my life, and I am hoping the next time we go it is still on the menu so we can order it again. Highly recommend it!"

"Food, service and facilities great, but there at too many other similar restaurants to chance having the bad dining experience we had at Charlie Palmer on Saturday, May 18, 2013. Mid-way through our meal, a group of approximately 20 persons who appeared to be in their mid 20s was seated across the aisle from my group of 3. The large group was so noisy and distracting that conversation at our table was not possible. Persons in the large group were continuously up and out of their seats and on their telephones. They were walking around in the aisles and carrying on as if they were in a room by themselves, which they should have been. We left the restaurant extremely disappointed feeling as if we had wasted our time and money."

"Stylish surroundings and great service, however lunch was disappointing. The pulled pork sandwich, while tasty, looked like a school lunch sandwich. Triangular cut white bread with potato chips - really? My guest's salad was fine but small and the lunch for two, no wine, dessert or coffee was $50+. Not worth it.
Perhaps that's why the restaurant was more than half empty. It could be a business lunch place - at least you can hear your guests, but they need to rethink their approach for lunch."

Food: We returned our Filet Mignon on Bourbon peppercorn sauce because it was undercooked; they brought us back the same piece of meat, better cooked, but overflowing with sauce and rubbery in consistency. ( most likely they put it in the microwave/convection oven). Cesar salad uninspiring and meek. Octopus a la plancha: with 2 big lumps of Mayo (not mentioned in the dish).

Noise level: The restaurant is a big square room with high ceilings and no separating walls, and the bar plays LOUD techno music to attract the young crowd that overflows from a popular Vietnamese restaurant next to it. With the high acoustics appropriate to the architecture of the place, the restaurant becomes a boom box."

"I invited 10 people to celebrate my husband's birthday and was very disappointed with this place. I don't mind an expensive restaurant at all for special occasions!! On that night Charlie Palmer offered us a terrible service and the food was very average. I do not recommend this restaurant to anyone who expect a good service specially when you're going to pay $100/person."

"Upon arriving the hostess seated us in a spot close to the kitchen and next to a room that was having a baby shower. The restaurant was not crowded and many other tables were available..so we asked to be moved because it was so loud we could not talk. Why this happened is not clear..but they seated at a table that was fine. Food was good and service was fine..they need to rethink the price of a small cup of coffee 4.50!!!!"

"This was my first visit to the restaurant. I was disappointed maybe because I expected more. Started with Cesar salad. The taste of the dressing was perfect, just the right amount of anchovies and nice pieces of parmesan. There was no cracked pepper offered at table side. We were offered small rolls, that were too sweet for my taste. I think a restaurant like Charlie P's should bake their own bread and it should not be sweet.
The entrees were perfect and redeemed the experience. Tried the braised short rib and the salmon. The short rib was a little bit dry and could used more sauce on the plate to balance out the dryness. Both entrees were creative and had nice suprises for the palate. The wine we chose, the 2010 zinfandel was great."

"The menu here is definitely creative and presentation as important as taste. I particularly liked the "Small Plate" options which allowed me to select small portions of a variety of things. I ordered Escargot Dumplings, Lamb Meatballs and Pork Belly. All were beautifully presented although disappointingly unremarkable. The Chinese dumpling with a snail inside was interesting but I guess I prefer the French style where the wonderful garlic butter sauce is left for mopping up with bread after the snail is gone. The lamb meatballs were in a spaghetti sauce and tasted very much like the meatballs I make at home - good but not special. The pork belly definitely required the heavy duty knife provided. Will I return - Yes - won't order same."

"The menu was not very big or good. They need to learn how to prepare a steak. I heard the people next to me complain about the same thing. The presentaion was lacking. Service took way too long. The people next to us got there well after us but got there food and were done well before we were and we had the same waitress and almost the same food! It is a much better place for lunch! We are glad we had it here in OC rahter than wasting our time going in Las Vegas! Mortons, Antenellos, Marche Modern, Pinot, Scott'sare all close annd much better."

"The food was good, but I expected much better for a high-end restaurant. The steak was tender and presented well. However, the flavor was lacking and everything costs extra. Considering the prices, nothing stood out, other than the service, which was excellent. The bar that resides beside the dining room was full of younger people and looked like the place to be. However, the proximity to the dining area made it difficult to have a nice, romantic meal. Overall, everything was good, but definitely not worth the price of admission."

"Always enjoy going with my wife to share small plates, a bottle of wine and dessert with coffee. Once we had entrees and salad, but since then only sharing plates in order to get more tastes and really spend a relaxing evening. This is one of few restaurants that still offer such choices. Most have abandoned the concept and are going back to overly large entrees that we do not enjoy as much. The service is excellent and understand that we are not in a hurry."

"We were so disappointed in the Easter Brunch. We read an article bragging about the revamping of their breakfast menu. The presentation was beautiful, service was excellent but the food itself was not the gastronomic experience we were hoping to enjoy. The dishes were unique enough but bland and lacking in flavor. At a price of $50 pp plus cocktails on top, we expecting to be more than satisfied. Although we enjoy the restaurant, I doubt we would return for breakfast or brunch anytime soon. The bill cost us $350 including the tip"

"Stole away for a pretty near perfect weekday lunch with The Hub at Charlie Palmer. This was our maiden voyage to this Palmer property. Ener-chic, modern ambience with conversation-starting appointments, welcoming, yet not overly solicitous service, a 3-course fixed price menu flavorful with depth, presentation appeal and well-portioned for a weekday mid-day getaway meal. Thank you, Orange County Restaurant Week! Only factor that could contribute more positively would be if Charlie Palmer were not located in a shopping mall (though it does boast an exterior entrance of its own) and we might miss the men and ladies who lunch company.;-) A huge contrast to our unseasonable and over-priced Sunday brunch debacle at Seasons 52 a few doors dow"

"Chef Kim is just amazing and friendly too! He made something special for my friend from out of the country visiting OC. I just love this restaurant. "This is the place for a special night out. The kitchen delights with unexpected tastings of delicacies. Ours were tiny sorbets and a sliver of rhubarb-infused cake. Needs are anticipated by the serving staff. Entrees are delicious and beautifully plated. The homemade ice creams are wonderful, but the serving is too small for the price."

"We were not greeted by a server for 15 min. The person who took our order only did so because I flagged him down. He said that he could "help our server" by taking our order, and thank goodness he did, because we never made contact with anyone claiming to be our server. The gentlemen refling water and passing out bread were efficient and friendly, but having no actual server made the evening less enjoyable. This was especially so when we were waiting 25 minutes for our desserts to arrive without any explanation whatsoever. I know that because my husband and I were taking advantage of restaurant week we were less lucrative guests, but if our experience had been better we might have become regular guests. As it was, we are unlikely to return"

"Its difficult to put my finger on it but every time I come here there is always something missing from the food that keeps it from being a great dining experience. Service is always very good and the athmosphere is also very good. for the name and the price I expect a little more from the food. I was just there for OC restaurant week, hoping my last 2 impressions of the place would change. That did not happen. White asperagus soup was probably the best course. flat iron steak needed seasoning or at least put some salt on the table please. bananas foster cake was ok. there are a lot of great restaurants near by to choose from in the same price category, unfortunately this one is ok but not the best of them."

"Our meal just didn't live up to our expectations. We went for Restaurant Week and ordered off that special prix fix menu. I ordered the scallops and my husband ordered the Surf and Turf, which was a braised short rib and scallops; they charged a $15 upcharge for the two measly little scallops! The braised rib was not fall-off-the-bone as you normally get when you order this dish; it was dry and kind of tough, although he said the flavor was on point. My scallops were good but nothing special. Also, my husband's dessert of banana fosters cake was way too sweet and doughy while my Panne cotta was just ok. The service was outstanding though - very attentive!"

"The food is always outstanding here! Service, however, is spotty. Often it's excellent, but our server this evening was not attentive at all; we waited 10 minutes just to get a wine list. He did not anticipate any of our needs, and we had to request many details, like the wine list, water refills, replacement for dropped fork, etc.

"We usually enjoy our times at this restaurant but Our latest visit here was not the best. It was very loud in the dining room (bar extra loud) and we were squeezed at a small table between two similar tables-all fighting to hear one another talk. Not good for a date night out with your spouse! Service is always very good-which we appreciate-but the food was not as tasty as it usually is. We were disappointed with the ahi small plate and the beet salad. Chicken liver tea sandwich was okay and pork belly was good. This is one of our favorite places to go on a regular basis but we left very disappointed this visit."

"over priced average or below average food. the bread was atrocious and cheap ...this place is an example of too much overhead admin staff all add up to costs too high to operate which therefore sacrifices food quality. you just feel here that you do not get your money's worth in the food portions and taste. The ambiance is nice and it would be ok if just meeting friends for a drink but elsewhere for a a varied menu and high quality and good tasting food."
