Coronado Boathouse 1887
The Coronado Boathouse 1887 Restaurant is located on Coronado Island; this historical building sits on the sparkling waters of the Glorietta Bay.. Built in 1887, the building was the original model for the world-famous Hotel Del Coronado, located directly across the street. The Coronado Boathouse may be reached by water taxi, the Coronado Bay bridge or via the Silver Strand. The Boathouse is open nightly seven days a week. The restaurant is available for daytime private group functions, weddings, wedding receptions and rehearsal dinners. In addition to semi-private and private room rental the restaurant is also available for buyouts; our Banquet staff can provide further details. The Boathouse prides itself on creative and extensive menu ranging from U.S.D.A. Prime Steaks to Fresh Fish preparation like our Macadamia Nut Crusted Halibut.

"This was just our second time at the Boathouse. The food and staff were terrific. The table we had was in an awkward spot and didn't allow us a view but the rest of the evening was quite nice. I think this restaurant is a great place for small parties but isn't set up for those larger than 6 or eight."

"A very nice location overlooking the Coronado marina. The food was good. I had the french toast. It was tasteful, very rich, and very filling. My parents had the tuna. They thought it was okay. Overall service was very good. Only downside to this visit was it was mother's day so it was busier than it would probably have been. Seating is inside and out on the deck. We sat inside. Even inside, the place is small enough one has views of the the bay. The bar looked small and a happy hour was noted outside. Definitely would try this place again in the evening."

"The food was great and the staff was exceptional. Our waiter explained the entrees which helped us choose the perfect meal. We found it especially enjoyable that the owner took the time to visit with us at our table and to thank us for visiting his resturant. A rare treat.

"I made the reservation for this restaurant two nights before Mother's Day. The menu didn't have much variety, but it was decently priced for being in Coronado, and the photos looked great. When we got there, we got a table right by a big window, and had a nice view of the boats and docks. My mom LOVED it there! Service was great, the alcoholic drinks were strong (which was good for us), and the atmosphere was busy and energetic. Our family loved how lively everyone was, and the manager was always walking around to greet the guests. We will definitely dine here again!"

"This night, being a Monday after Mothers day, was very light, so obviously noise would not be an issue, but I dont' remember noise being an issue on previous visits. Service is always perfect, and the food was excellent in portion, presentation, and quality. My slight disappointment was in the 5 of us being seated at a table for 4 - with small 8" pullouts. Makes for a rather crowded table. Made more annoying when the place had few guests, at least at 5-7pm. This is the first time this has happened (out of maybe a dozen visits). While not inexpensive, I think the prices are fair for the food & service, we just limit how frequently we go, maybe a couple times per year."

After drinks we were asked to move since the waitress said the table had been reserved for a party of 5. We were a bit put out being moved away from our original table."

"My husband took me here for Mother's Day brunch and I like that I didn't feel overdressed (I like to dress it up) and the ambiance/service was superb. The food was absolutely delicious, fresh, and they kept it simple by not adding so much spice or sauces that you loose the main ingredient like the fish. The crab stack was excellent as well as the shrimp cocktail. The salmon was also lightly flavored with curry, not drowned, which I appreciate.
The kids came so it was also a good environment for kids as they had a kids menu and the server was great with them!
We all had a great time"

"We went to the Boathouse for a Mother's Day brunch. The restaurant was noisier than I expected but it was Mother’s Day, you can only sound proof a 125 year old building so much, and ultimately it was not that much of a distraction. The food was good and at a reasonable price for the venue. We enjoyed eating on the water. Living in North County, the food or location taken separately would not specifically draw me down to the restaurant. However, the combination of the two does merit the drive down the 163."

"When we got to the restaurant it couldn't of been better. A beautiful day, the parking was great and everyone in ur party was excited. They sat us right away and it was on the dock with a gorgeous view. So at this point like I said we were all happy, that's until we ordered. Oru food took FOREVER and when we got it it was completely cold. Not just one plate, but everybody's. So in saying that, if yoir going for the atmosphere by all means go. If your goimg for the food DON'T."

"We have been coming to this restaurant for over 30 years. We were concerned when the Chart House let it go to the new owners several years ago that the quality of service and food might slip.
I am happy to report that the food and service are equal to or better than our beloved Chart House.

"I very rarely take time to write reviews, but for the Boathouse I will definitely make an exception. I initially booked a table for two at 7pm, but some friends met up with us so I contacted the Boathouse at short notice to amend the reservation at short notice. Absolutely no problem at all, the staff were extremely freindly and helpful and we were now a group of 6.The location is stunning, the building lovely and the staff superb. The menu is comprehensive, as is the wine and drinks list. If you need any information about the food, its source or preparation, the staff are on hand to explain whatever you need to know. Once you are ready to order they will accomodate your request in whatever way they can.This made a great trip even bette"

"Neat spot with very nice waterfront views. The restaurant had just been repainted, so there was a slight odor, but amazingly not too bad - and the paint job looked great. Great service from Jimmy, decent wine list, awesome food; I had the scallops and they were great. My wife had the lobster tails. I'm not fond of any lobster not from New England but these were very, very good. Even the prime rib was good. The 1887 is a classic seaside shanty in that it's a bit dated and low-key, but that just makes it all the more comfortable - we'll definitely be back."

"my french toast was worst of hundreds that I have had. I ate a half of a slice and only that because I was hungry!! It tasted like it was vegan, gluten free!! Eggs Benedict were average. The cranberry muffins were delicious. Not a single decoration for Easter Sunday. all in all quite a let down."

"The price of the food did not match the quality. The food (omlette and potatoes) came out slightly warm which made it seem not as fresh. The eggs could only be made one way. The menu was phenomenal, there was something for everyone, the view was spectacular, service was stellar, and the ambiance was wonderful. "We flew in to San Diego on a day trip specifically to eat dinner on the water. This restaurant definitely fit the bill. The service was outstanding. Everyone was very attentive. We had to send the fish back to the kitchen a couple times due to it being undercooked and eventually ended up changing the order to scallops but the entire time the waiters were right on top of it. Surprisingly the other food was so good and the staff was so friendly this didn't bother us in the slightest. The artichoke appetizer and the creole shrimp appetizer are a must try! The view was also great, right on the bay. We will definitely visit the Boathouse again! Thanks for a great day trip!!"

"We had 5:45 reservations on a Sunday. Service was slow and unfriendly from the time we came in until we left. They were not busy but our waitress was unavailable most of the time. Our food however was very good. My husband said his scallops were cooked perfectly! My chicken with mango salsa was very good. It was too pricey and with the poor service we won't be back."

"A great disappointment! The lobster bisque was competent and starter salad good if over dressed. The prime rib came swimming in cold au jus. The meet was of good quality but the surface rub was oddly spiced. The chicken with mango was a mix-up of flavors. The mango was serviced chilled with hot mashed potatoes. The carrots were raw and the green vegetable cold. The chicken was rubbery. The wine list is over priced. The ingredients in the food were apparently good quality but for the high price tag just poor value. We went elsewhere for dessert. The Chef has just recently left, we were told, and the place is in a culinary mess."

"I wanted a special spot to take my valentine to dinner. Another Coronado establishment had a fixed price menus that was too heavy on food and very pricy so I looked across the street to the Boathouse. We sat on the patio overlooking the harbor, had a great calamari appetizer, and had seafood meals along with wine for a very reasonable price. The food was tasty, the service was great even though they were extremely busy, and the ambience could not have been better. A walk along the harbor back to the 1906 Lodge bed and breakfast completed a special Valentine evening."

"The food was ok. My filet was good but wasnt hot enough when served and the merlot sauce on it was way to sweet. The mashed potatoes were fine, the vegetables were gross. My wifes scallops were absolutely delicious, probably the best we've ever had. My sons kids meal was ridiculous, 12 dollars for 2 chicken strips and fries. His meal came with a soda but he wanted milk, it was 3 dollars for the milk! Even with no soda. The waitress barely came by, the table was an awkward half circle against a wall and decor of the place was just very out dated. $140 for 3 for dinner, total let down aside from scallops."

"We always visit the Boathouse when in the San Diego area and have never been disappointed. The halibut is their speciality and it is always very good. Be aware that like most restaurants that specialize in seafood, the fish is cooked on the 'rare' side so if you like your fish more 'well done' be sure to notify the waiter."
