"I took my mom here for Mother's Day, it was our first time. I have the pleasure of knowing the new sous chef there, Chris, he made the experience extra special for the both of us. Our server, Jeremey, was very friendly and attentive. The whole staff was extremely accommodating and attentive. Couldn't recommend this spot more! Thank you!"

"Our first trip to Cowboy Star was for dining for life, kudos and thank to C-* for their support. The service stellar, the steak cooked perfectly, the mashed potatoes oddly awesome, kitchen staff accommodating with our desired vegetable change ( 30% of the world will always find asparagus bitter and yucky but the green beans were perfect! The only negatives, the wine list did not impress me, relied too heavily on young wines from the northwest and frankly just over marked up. Restaurants that realize they will sell more of the higher priced bottles if they do not try double or triple the cost of bottle of wine that retails for $75-100 are my heroes. C-Star would do well do reevaluate pricing. Also consider adding more non seafood apps!"

"Really liked it overall. Had an excellent Manhattan with house made bitters. Nice wine list--affordable, tasty selections: we had a nice red from Washington state at $50, which for a downtown restaurant ain't bad! Sweetbreads had a nice flavor, but a hint over done. Charcuterie plate was so so--appreciated the artisanal factor, but not the best flavor. Nice beet salad. And the meat...what can you say? Delicious, red meat. Bone in strip was very good, but the ribeye was excellent! Our server recommended the chocolate chip bread pudding: awesome. Our server was spot on, nice guy, and he put up with us as we got drunker through dinner. Would recommend."

"Although we are not big beef eaters, we found pleanty of options on the menu. Everything we tried was tasty, well prepared and nicely presented. The Lobster Risotto appetizer was especially nice as was the sea scallop entree. Bread pudding was nice to share. We had enjoyed this place when they first opened but had not been back as we live in North County. It was worth the trip back and we were happy to see that they were still doing a great job."

"The service really stood out to me during my most recent visit to Cowboy Star - the servers are attentive and go the extra mile. The food is always incredible, my favorite besides the meat is the mac and cheese, which has been prepared differently each time I've been. The cocktail menu offers a variety of great selections, my favorite is The Outlaw. All around, one of the best restaurants in town!"

Great for groups, can walk here from nearly any downtown hotel, blocks from after hours drinks. Been coming here for two years... and make a point of coming once a month or so.

"Food was mediocre like most pricey steak houses. The sides were lacking. Had the pork belly mac which was ok. They need more selection of side dishes and more options for substitution (plain mashed potatoes and asparagus with your steak is boring). Add a little garlic or truffle please. The restaurant was almost too dark to see what you were eating. I accidentally ate a piece of bone/gristle since I couldn't see."

"We loved the quite in your place. And your dinner was good.
But we had the feeling, that your waiter had too much to do with his 3 tables..... We have been waiting for our menu cart, have been waiting for a new glas of wine, have been waiting for ...Your restaurant was not full, only 6 tables was occupied...
We went out for dinner in a week 4 times. And we know, what is a good waiter. But our waiter, he knew everything better. He wanted to make us regulations. We waited 20 minutes for your menu cart and we have to asked for this. His answer: "if you made your choice to drink, than i will bring you the menu cart....?? Usually you choose your meal, and than the wine!
Not just professional... The waiter is the face of the restaurant."

"Really cool place ... Decor was great, staff was very engaging. A definite must is to sit at the "Kitchen Table" - A bar facing into the kitchen and watch all the food prep. Had great conversations with head chef and owner at that spot. The food was outstanding - a filet cooked to perfection, asparagus that were delicious, and then finished with berries and sorbet to die for ... The owner told me about the special ranches that he gets his beef. Kinda cool!"

"This was by far the best meal we had in San Diego. It was quite literally some of the best food we have had anywhere, and we consider ourselves extreme foodies. I'm not a country music fan, but the food more than made up for the background music. If I would change anything I would have stuck with the appetizers and not even ordered a main course. Thanks very much. We will be back on our next visit from Canada."

"High quality meat and creative drinks. Staff was attentive, knowledgeable and accommodating. I think the chef could be a little more creative on the appetizers. Overall fantastic meal and good wine. "Really excellent service & delicious food! Our server (I believe his name was Adam) was very attentive, but not overbearing. He kept our waters full and removed used items promptly. The appitizers were tasty and the steaks were flavorful and prepared perfectly. Definitely save room for the bread pudding! It's heavenly!!"

"We just had dinner at the CS to celebrate our engagement. We had a nice evening, although we didn’t get any comp dessert. We've eaten at all the high end steakhouses in San Diego. The quality of the food and meat is exceptional. The environment is cool and not stuffy. The service is solid, as you would expect it varies by individual. But overall is worth checking it out."

"This was my third experience dining at Cowboy Star and it was a big disappointment. On my previous two visits, I was impressed with the level of service and overall attention to detail. This past weekend I took two friends that had never been before and I remarked how they were going to be impressed with the restaurant and the high level of service, especially for San Diego. Well, my experience this Saturday night couldn't have been much different. The waiter had absolutely no time for us and made us feel that he had something more important to be doing than waiting on our table. When spending almost $400 on dinner for a group of four, one would think you could expect a higher level of service. The food was okay, but not worth the cost."
