"We have been to Chaya 5 - 6 times over the past two years ... always in a group of 4 - 6. The food has been consistently good with good taste, quantity, presentation, and quality. Service is excellent ... just enough without being fawning. The setting is lively without being loud ... and you have nice views of the Bay and Bay Bridge. We discovered that wine bottles are 50% on Sunday evening ... so you can have a great meal and wine ... at a very affordable price. We will be back again."

"We had an outside table with views of the day. Part of the delight of this restaurant came from the excellent weather that day and the opportunity to enjoy the view. The menu was limited due to it being Mothers Day but the choices were good as was the food. The service was spectacular. Good attention, but not too much. I would highly recommend this venue."

"We had to make an early reservation, even though we wanted to enjoy the bridge lightshow. Service was relaxed and hospitable, so we stayed for two hours. The food was wonderful. We don't usually pay this much, but it was a very special occasion, so it didn't hurt at all."

"The Staff at Chaya is amazing. They created an excellent experience and went out of their way to be helpful and available without being the overbearing or annoying. An example of their incredible waitstaff is that our waiter (i wish i knew his name to thank him) overheard that it was my wife's Birthday (we did not want to make a huge to-do about it) and the waiter quietly and kindly brought out a complimentary croissant bread pudding (it was excellent). Perfect for what we were looking for.
We have dined here several times and every time the food is very good. Their Dine about town Menu is fantastic.
I would definitely recommend this place to someone out for an evening of ambiance."

"The service is HORRIBLE; and that alone ruins the meal. The one waiter, who I've unfortunately had twice now (he's kinda bald, glasses, buck teeth) is a buffoon - socially awkward. Doesn't say "excuse me" - has no sense of "segue" when interrupting diners who are talking. Worst service ever."

"The strange thing about Chaya Brasserie is that we had better service and more fun in the bar area waiting for our table than in the restaurant. The bar waiting staff were pleasant and polite, drinks were slow but the bar was busy and frankly, understaffed. Plenty of people eating and the food looked good.
The restaurant table was cramped, up against other diners, was loud and impersonal. The waiting staff seemed overly pompous and officious and compared to other restaurants we visited in San Francisco this weekend, I felt the cost was high for food that was mediochre, ambience that was vanilla and service that lacked any charm .
If I went to Chaya again, I would only sit in the bar. The restaurant? To me there are better places."

"The food is great, though a bit pricey. Service is not as good as the food. And it's silly you can't get items from the bar menu in the restaurant. I had started out with a Pinot Grigio in the bar (happy hour) and was told I couldn't have a second glass. So switched to Sauvignon Blanc but I'm sure they could have figured out how to give me another glass at non-happy hour prices. Same things with some fries we saw go by in the bar. Were first told we couldn't get them but then we went round in circles and decided we could, just not the 'happy hour' fries (meaning price). In both cases there was a mini-big deal made about relatively nothing when it could have just been handled."

"We ate at 6pm and were constantly reminded to eat quick and leave - we received our dinner within 5 minutes after ordering, having had no time to munch on bread and drink some wine. Then were asked to order desert before finishing our wine. We were visited by the manager twice asking us if we wanted to order desert. We finally lost ist and left at 8pm. They obviously wanted to have the table for one or two more groups that night. It was absolutely annoying, after a long days work to be pressured like this. I would never go back. It is a real tourist place, not relaxing. The food was excellent."

"Went there for my birthday. Food portion wasn't huge. We had to order 6 courses and an appetizer to be satisfied. The Filet Mignon, Risotto, and the Scallop was unforgettably tasty!! The duck and the garlic fries were okay. (Felt like garlic fries was a scam. Ok it's understandable if you HAVE TO order if your neighbor did : the smell was too tempting, just keep in mind that it's not that good. The service weren't great but not bad. If you think that an upscale restaurant would acknowledge you for your birthday, think twice. Even after checking my ID for alcohol, waitress didn't say anything. Maybe she didn't really check..? all of the securities at the participated pub crawl bars said happy birthday. Thought they would be more attentive?"

"Food was good...not great, but good. View was pretty spectacular, as we got a window seat. It was a special occasion, and while we appreciate kids, we were trying to get away from ours for the night! and, after we were seated at this perfect spot for a perfect romantic evening. a 3 year old was then seated next to us. I know, kids and parents need to eat too...just wasn't ideal for our situation.
I'd go back, but stay in the bar area, have some appetizers and watch the light show...then I'd head somewhere else for a more romantic atmosphere next time. But hey, that's just me."

"This was our third time at Chaya since the past two experiences were so good. We brought out of town family here and I was thoroughly embarrassed with this experience. The service was the worst I have ever had. Apparently they had a couple of large parties booked on the same night and our waiter was taking care of one of them. We had to ask him to take our order; the finished plates sat in front of us for so long we pushed them away and they still didn't clear them; and we had to ask for the bill at the end of the evening. We actually thought our waiter had left for the evening. Unfortunately, I don't believe we'll be returning again."

"I love this place. The second time I've taken my GF there for her birthday. She didn't seem to mind the repeat dining experience and neither did I. I had flowers pre-delivered for her and when we arrived, the flowers were center table very close to the front window. NICE. Thoughtful. Very nice view of the Bay Bridge. Sashimi salad, muscles, salmon, filet mignon, great cocktails, I'd go back any time. Probably in about a year unless I'm fortunate to make it sooner ;-)"

"First time here, the wife & I were impressed. Menu is a sort of asian fusion, and everything we ordered was very good. Will be going back, but perhaps not until after tourist season. :-)
And yes, the view of the Bay Lights should be great, though we were there too early to see them lit. On the bright side (as it were), a 5:30 seating left us ample time to make an 8:00 symphony performance at Davies Hall.
Only real downside, aside from the Embarcadero traffic (at least the restaurant has very convenient valet parking) was that as the dining area filled up it got rather noisy. Not sure if this was just that night, or if it's always that way."

"I dined out on the patio on a Saturday night for all night happy hour! I think we ordered every appetizer, which were small but all very good and reasonably priced. The cerviche was so delicious. The heaters kept us warm on a cold San Francisco night and we had a fantastic view of the bridge and the new bay lights! It was really nice, I look forward to coming back soon!"

"My high expectations were exceeded. Asked for a table where we could see the Bay Bridge lights and were grateful to have a great table near the window. The wall mirror enabled both of us to see the show. Everything we ate was outstanding, from rainbow sashimi seaweed salad and roasted mussels to scallops and salmon and finally bread pudding. "Horrendous noise level aside, Chaya is outstanding. We had a table with a great view of the bay. Throughout dinner, our waiter timed his visits to check up on us perfectly. Seafood was superb - prawn salad, scallops with mascarpone risotto - risotto was the best we've had in the city; wish it was offered as an entree as well as an accompaniment!Duck with spiced honey glaze also excellent, cooked rare as requested, with yummy squash puree & flawlessly sauteed spinach. 2 signature dishes - mac & cheese side, chocolate croissant bread pudding - are terrific; would love the pudding recipe. We'll be back (hopefully when the restaurant isn't full of noisy large groups)!"

"I have eaten at Chaya multiple time for both lunch and dinner but this was by far the best experience. The black cod dish was amazing as well as the filet. The food along with a window table watching the bay lights couldn't have made for a better night.
Our server was great! Answered all questions with no hesitation and made the best recommendations for our table.

"We enjoyed our dinner at Chaya very much!! We had the prix fixe dinner as well as a few sushi rolls and thought everything was wonderful. We had the added pleasure of sitting close to a window overlooking the bay and had an excellent view of the light show on the Bay Bridge."

"tried this place totally on a whim as a friend was in town and staying right across the street at hotel vitale.
the food and service were both fantastic.
we did get a mac n' cheese for the table that was DELICIOUS!
the entrees (sushi and salmon entree) were both fantastic, fresh and amazingly prepared and partnered with excellent flavors.

"Our concierge recommended this restaurant for Easter brunch. The view by the Bay, outdoor table, was lovely. We wish cars were not allowed to park in front of the restaurant, though. The Unlimited Mimosas option was much appreciated.

"I found this restaurant when I was looking for a place that had a view of the bay bridge. The light show that got added to the bay bridge definitely made the view a lot better. I would come back just for the ambiance.
The service was great! They were able to help us find a table that had a better view when we requested it. They timely, professional, and it was nice that they had a room in the back to hold your coat and other items instead of keeping them by your seat.
The food was decent. Nothing stood out as a must have. But again, I went to the restaurant for the ambiance and view."

"I had no idea the food was so good here. It was the perfect location for Easter Brunch with yummy dungeness crab and bottomless mimosas with a gorgeous view of the bridge. We had a lovely experience and the fried chicken with maple syrup was sooo good, but the salted caramel ice-cream sandwiches were absolutely DEVINE!"

"Good experience here. I had made a note on my reservation that it was my best friends bachelorette party and upon arrival she was greeted with a congratulations and they managed to give us a table with a stunning view... Had it not had the valets umbrella blocking 80% of the bay bridge. Something that they should have noticed before, however once it started getting dim out I just requested that it be taken down. The server was attentive and knowledgeable, my water was never empty. Good wine. My salad was great, and the duck was very flavorful. Do not waste the 10$ on the assorted cookie dessert. Highly doubt they are made in house and far from gourmet. Other then that good meal and great service."

"We had the 'Worst' experience. To start with, we were party of four. Within few minutes of our seating, our waiter spilled red wine on two of us. We had lost our appetite after that didnt want to make a scene since we were celebrating a birthday and other guests were having a good time. Though we had said in comment section special occasion 'birthday', they never bothered about it. So, what is the point in mentioning about special occassions in the comment section! I would give a BIG 'O' for their attitude and service. When we were leaving the manager apologized and asked us to send them dry cleaning bill. How Che...?!"
