For Centuries the English Inn has earned a great reputation for Friendly faces, cozy rooms and cheery firesides. As soon as guests come to the Inn, the charming host and hostesses run to greet them. In front of a crackling fire one can partake of good hearty fare - the tankard is always full - the spit hung with roasting beefs - and a table heaped with sweets and such.
The Inn keepers of the Summit House were inspired by the custom to create a hospitable place where friends could meet to eat, drink and delight in the views of North Orange County's countryside.

"We went with the family and found the seating a little crowded, hard to move our chairs without bumping another behind us and the service was slow. It was a Tuesday night so thought it would be less crowded but not so, which means people love it. The food was very good although this time a little cold. The view from the hill is wonderful and we asked to be seated near a window which we did not get but maybe next time. We go there often and love the food, this just was not one of the better evenings but not bad either."

"It was amazing, although I did not order the Prime Rib I had some and OH.MY..it was... amazing. ESPECIALLY the creamed horse radish and creamed corn. The lamb was good as well as the prime rib of pork. Yummy. Will definitely be back. GREAT PRICE for the amount of food, I was so stuffed I could barely breathe and there was STILL more FOOD.
Perhaps it was because it was dineoc, it was kind of loud for a romantic restaurant, but when everyone left, it was nice- definitely something for a special occasion- I wanted a window seat! The view looked pretty nice."

"Parking is a bit limited...so I would suggest you go with cash knowing that you are going to have to valet. Ask for the outdoor patio if you have a special occasion, go around twilight.....all of the city lights twinkle at that time & it's gorgeous!
Don't be put off by the waitress costumes.....remember that this is supposed to be a nod to the old "English" Tudor house. They have English fare & it's very tasty.
The owner of the restaurant is a wine sommelier & all of his wine choices are excellent.
Don't forget to bring your camera (though be very discreet about pictures...no flash please!) Enjoy! I would highly recommend trying this place out! Definitely a hidden gem."

"The food and service were outstanding and fit that of a fine dining restaurant. The main dining room looked nice but we were stuck in the banquet room where the ambiance was just fair and the room was very loud as everyone was trying to talk over the wedding band playing in the next room. For Valentine's Day we were disappointed in the ambiance, it wasn't romantic. However, the food and service were so fabulous that we'll go back again and recommend this restaurant to friends and family, we just won't go on a holiday."

"The food and drink were excellent...the ambiance was romantic both at sunset and at night with awesome scenic views all around. The service was well timed and courteous, but it lack originality and creativity. The low point was when the coffee was served with regular sugar packages -- that should of been upon request. Still, the host received us well and could hold friendly light conversation while we were guided to our table. The after-dinner bar scene was busy and noisy. Service at the bar was painfully slow--probably because too many people were having dinner at the bar. The low point was when I had to look for someone to pay our bill."

"This is my second time dinning a Summit House. It is a big difference about the food and service compare to last time (Christmas 08). My steak was overly cooked, the salad was just totally a miss, the dressing was so sour. Overall the meal was not impressive at all especially for that kind of price. The waiter was overwhelmed and was never be around when needed. I have dinned in fine restaurant before where they give the ladies a rose on Valentine's night."

"We have been coming to the Summit House for many years. It helps that we are very close and walk here. The restaurant is very charming with an old English favor. We went for Valentines dinner and arrived at our resevation time of 6:30 pm. We (party of 6)waited for a few minutes and were seated in the main dining room. As usual the noise level is quite high. This is to be expected with the extensive use of glass to take advantage of the view. Our party enjoyed various dishes ranging from John Dory to prime rib, filet mignon and egg plant crepes. All were prepared very well. The service was very pleasant and for as crowded as they were wait time was minimal. Dessert was incredible as usual with triffle and creme brulle throughly enjoyed."

"Excellent experience! Seriously the best prime rib and creamed corn on the planet. We will definitely be back again. We are planning a 70th birthday party to be hosted at this location. The view was spectacular and the service was first rate. I was impressed to say the least. I know my wife really loved it. Its about 10 minutes from our residence but it was the first time we had ever been there. Initially we had looked this place to get married which fell through. After viewing the reception hall that evening we agreed it is definitely a great location to host a wedding reception."

"My Valentine's dinner could not have been any better than that. The ambiance, service, and food were exceptional. I didn't even mind the extra 20 minutes wait because I thoroughly enjoyed everything. The restaurant had 3 types of atmosphere in separate rooms. I didn't realize that until I saw their flyer. Bottom line, I really enjoyed the place. Everything about it. I will certainly know what to expect and request for next time I return back to Summit House."

"Very romantic spot for two, or a great place for an informal get together. The food is pretty good, more of a comfort food feeling than anything. The staff is very friendly, however I did get the feeling that my arriving in jeans and sneakers (albeit very nice) did strike them as odd. The view is great, so if you are looking to propose or reminiscing on the past this is a great spot."

"I've been to many fancy restaurants such as Lawry's, but this was by far better than Lawry's in my opinion. Food was excellent and it was the best prime rib I have ever tasted. The prime rib was cooked to perfection, and all the trimmings were just as excellent as well. Everything was made by the order."

"The greeting and attention on arrival was excellent. We requested and got a window table with an excellent valley view. Service could have been more attentive. Food was good and the light cut prime rib is just fine for anyone. Now the bad news. We had not been to Summit House for some time and I had forgotten just why, but my wife reminded me that the reason was the noise level. We were seated just next to a large table obviously having a staff business dinner. This is a good place for it, but not a quiet personal intimate dinner for two. The acoustics are terrible! With business dining everyone seems that they must all talk constantly and it deafens the experience. Do NOT go here for a quiet romantic dinner!"

""Find something you do well and stick to it!" Not an extensive menu, but the major genres were all addressed, and all of the dishes seemed very intriguing. My Prime Rib end-cut was excellent and one of my guests marveled that your kitchen is one of the very few places that clearly understands "medium-rare". All of the other dishes that I saw had an equally appetizing presentation. Only downside was the "Maryland Crab Cakes"; clearly an insult to the people of that state, as the mealy, tasteless, over-ground yet nicely fried items that I was served would never be confused with the type and quality of an actual crab cake that one would expect to be served in a restaurant of your calibre. You need to raise the bar in this dish."

"Lunch was very nice. The reason for the 4 star rating is that my Ceasar salad did not seem to be as fresh as I have had there in the past. The romaine was yellow and a bit wilted. The eye appeal was 1 star and the taste was average. Less than average taste would have been call for me to send it back. Service was a tad slow and should not have been since the dining area was not busy."

"The United Kingdom is one of our favorite places to visit. The Summit House Restaurant offers the best of England with better food, and a warm open atmosphere. The menu has many choices of beef, fish, and lamb. The salads and vegetables are creative and flavorful. The experience is much like dining at an English country mansion. The inviting foyer with it's crackling fire, and comfortable sofa's, the bar that is more like a country "pub" with it's rich woodwork and plush seating. The dining room(s) with comfortable chairs, rich wood paneling and art, live piano music, and great views!"

"My wife and I had a wonderful dining experience at The Summit House. The service was top drawer and the food was delicious and plentiful...well worth the price, which for some, could be a little intimidating. We loved the Old English Inn look and feel. Would we go back? Yes! maybe not on a regular basis, but certainly for special occasions. Only negative (and it's a small one) is that when the dining room was full, it felt a little cramped. (we arrived about 7:45p)But I guess that's what you would expect from such a popular place. Unlike some other "swanky" places, we went home full and happy, and even took home a "doggy bag"."

"This was our second visit. Once again food and overall environment was excellent. The waitress did not listen when I clearly indicated one person was not having wine, and seemed eager to push us to buy certain items. "Our overall experience was very pleasant. The staff was nice, piano in the bar is a nice attraction. We had a cozy booth to celebrate our anniversary and the food was very good as well. "As advertised, the prime rib was very very good. The portion was right and cooked to specified rareness. The crab cake was ok but not great. If you like prime rib, this is the right place. "The restaurant is a perennial favorite due to proximity to home. It's a great way to treat house guests to a nice dinner without driving too far. Admittedly, the most recent visit was a disappointment in the service as well as the quality of the food. I ordered an eggplant crepe for curiosity reasons. It was very overpriced for what appeared to be plated as three small eggplant eggrolls. The cup of rice that was paired was dry and did not have much flavor. For $23.99, the creativity and taste could have gone further. While the waitress tried her best to serve, even though the restaurant was only 3/4 full, we waited a solid 10 minutes before anyone came by our table to give us water or ask if we needed anything to drink."

"We have been going to the Summit House a few times a year for many years. It never disappoints! The food and service are always top notch while maintaining reasonable prices. The specialty is prime rib with side dishes of Yorkshire pudding, creamed corn, and creamed spinach. The John Dory fish is an excellent alternative to a beef dinner. We prefer the larger main dining room which has a beautiful southfacing view of Orange County. Don't forget to try the Engish trifle for dessert."

"My wife took me to the Summitt House for dinner on my birthday. The restaurant was beautifully decorated inside with both large and smaller dinning rooms. We sat at a table next to a southern facing window and was able to watch the sky scape change from blue to orange and reds as the sun set. The service received was friendly and polite with good suggestions of wine and food. The wine and food was delicious and in good proportion. My one suggest in planning you visit is to go early for the best service, table location, and quick seating."

"Summit House is a solid restaurant, but everyone working seemed bored while providing good service. The menu is limited but the entrees are good. I had the John Dory. Although the crowd was diverse, it seems like a place older people would like, with the old english drawing room look, fireplace, and soft decor. I couldn't fault anything except the limited menu, the $4.50 extra charge to put raspberries on the creme brulee (which they offered!), and the overgenerous hunks of parmesan on the caesar salad. Dinner for two without alcohol totaled $120 w/tip. Despite nothing being wrong, I was disappointed-it's low energy. If you want a lively time you better bring the party with you. Good for stately occasions? Nice views."

"I love the Summit! We (my extended family and I) come once a year around Christmas time. It is now a tradition. What I like best is the easy, relaxed environment for such an upscale restaurant. "Our food was delicious, but it took the servers awhile to get us our menus (like 15 minutes) and we made reservations at 7:45pm, but didn't get seated til 8:30pm. There was plenty of lobster bisque soup while we were waiting and when we got our table they ran out. The $40 fix menu was a real treat, but we didn't get our meal til 9:45pm. We were at the restaurant from 7:45pm to 11pm. If you have a lot of patience and time I would go here, but if you have tickets to the operah or a show, you'll only have time for dinner."

"I have been going to this restaurant for years and usually everything is outstanding. So I was really surprised when our service was not that great, and the food was all overcooked. The server seemed lost and without any experience in fine dining. Most of our dinners were tough and tasted like they had been made hours before and reheated. I still recommend this place......just don't go on a busy nite/holiday, and asked for their best/longest-running server. The ambiance is still fabulous!"

"The carolers made our evening! All the diners in our room were into the singing and the whole room enjoyed every song. There was even an impromptu sing-along with "Feliz Navidad" which brought down the house! The carolers sang every song that the room requested, and even a fun version of the Monkees "I'm a Believer." What a great topper for the outstanding food, delightful service and beautiful atmosphere. We enjoyed our evening thoroughly. Happy Holidays and thank you for a wonderful night."

"We had a late lunch at the Summit House this past Christmas Eve. Everything went unusually well. I was most pleased about how prepared they were for my father who arrived in a wheel chair. Additionally, there was a wonderful vocal quartet that new even some of the more obscure Christmas carols. I would dine here again for a holiday meal or otherwise."

"The history and tradition alone make this a special occasion place. The aura and beauty of the the dining areas make the experience one to remember. Nobody would call the cusine nouvelle here, but it is always reliable and what they do, they do very well. Dressed up comfort food is what they do--and without any need for apology.
A modest but surprisingly fair-priced wine list and as congenial and expert a wait staff as you're likely to find make it a superb family or group dining spot. But it has a romantic flair for two as well. Does not disappoint."

"This is the third year we and four other friends have gone to Summitt House for the holidays. This year was not very good. The service was terrible. We could not get attention of anyone to wait on us. The servers were too busy and did not seem to care if they were there. Forget trying to get coffee or an after dinner drink!
We were seated in the back room and maybe that was the problem as it was cold, drafty and no service plus we come for the Carolers and they did not come back to that area and sing like we have had before.
A decision was that next year we try somewhere else as Summit House lost it charm."

"We had excellent service although the restaurant was filled to capacity for the Holiday lunch crowd. This is a very popular spot for special occasion diniing with great views. because of the number of people it was a bit noisy. We all had the special of the house - prime rib-very good and served as we ordered - some well done some rare. Lee our server was fantastic. Friendly and attentive. Our table was ready at the reservation time - no waiting and we did not feel rushed at the endof our meal - given extra coffee etc."

"Hard to beat the Summit House during the holidays. Very nicely decorated & the food is expensive and really good. Our waitress seemed to be tired & distracted. "If you haven't been here, it is a must try. You need to make reservations in advance on holidays and weekends. The bar has a live piano player most nights of the week, he takes special requests. It is worth it to go early and sit in the bar for a drink before dinner. The service is 5 star. During the holidays they have carolers in costume. They are one of the few places around that you can find escargot(Yummy!). The John Dory is fantastic and they are known of their Prime rib and creamed corn too. This is a great special occasion place. No room for skimping. Everything you want and more."

"We have always enjoyed dining at Summit House for special gatherings. This time there were four of us and two had only 'fair' meals. The lamb was just not flavorful. For desert, I got the fresh berries and was served one very bruised strawberry and several that were just not ripe - yellow to barely a blush of pink. A disappointing meal, but great service and still a wonderful time with friends!"

"We have dined at Summit House on several occasions, but this experience did not meet our expectations. The noise level in the small room we requested was so loud we couldn’t visit with our friends, a group of only 6. Service was very slow, 15-20 minutes between cocktails; female server splashed au jus all over the table, barely missing my clothes and lap, when she removed a plate of prime rib that she served me that was cooked too well, when I ordered medium rare. She then tried to serve the same medium prime rib to my husband who also ordered medium rare. She continued to joke about it is a sarcastic way. Very disappointed in the service. The most efficient and attentive service was from the bus boy!"

"We've been celebrating our anniversary at Summit House for the last 10 years.The ambiance during the Holidays is superb!We've always been treated so graciously and they've always gone out of their way to wish us well on our anniversary.This year they offer a 3 course meal for $40,that was very much appreciated during these rough economic times.Initially, the valet parked my Chrysler 300 right up front-wow!Then,the bartender JACK made our drinks and entertained us with his wit and humor.Once we were seated for dinner, waiter JOEL treated us like Royalty, and the food...my Filet Minon, cooked to perfection and melted in the mouth.The wife's John Dory was light and flaky,a reccomendation from JOEL. "My wife, mother, sister and I have made a tradition of having a nice dinner together as part of our holiday celebrations. We have been to most of the name places - Five Crowns, Ritz, etc. But tonight, you guys hit it out of the park. Our server, Beth, was perfect - attentive, fun, always there when we needed her, while understanding of our desire to relax and dine. The food was wonderful - duck, prime rib, and lamb chops all got raves, not to mention the escargot and soups. Drinks were prompt and fresh, no sitting at the bar while the ice melts. And great carolers too. All in all, a great experience. Thanks to you and your staff, and please know that we will be back again next year.

"The environment was very nice with all the decorations. Staff was very attentive and brought us to our table right the way. Our server was very polite and went over the menu for us carefully. She also gave us some wine suggestion.
We had escargot as our starter. It was baked very well but could definitely use more salt. The sauce was nice though and worked very well with the bread.
Both of us went with the fixed menu. We had the seafood chowder soup, I went with prime rib for entry and my wife went with duckling. And we finished with desserts. The seafood chowder was rich and yummy. Prime rib was nice but could have more texture. Duckling was a bit overcooked though.

"We love to dine at The Summit House for special occasions. Comparing the food to last year at Thanksgiving we did not feel that the turkey dinners were comparable. Too much dark neat put on the dressing under the turkey slices,Potatoes were dry and lumpy and nothing on top of them. Autumn Veggies were tasteless and were left on our plates. "Our service was good considering it was a holiday. We did have a longer wait for our dinners after the apps but we chocked it up to the busy holiday.
The kids menu was smaller portions of adult choices. We didn't go with the traditional Turkey dinner for them because the sides were too rich for their taste. Ended up getting hamburger sliders."

"The parking attendants were very poor. No opening or closing doors; no good evening, etc. This was at the arrival and the departure. When we left (early, not a late night) two attendants were immediately to the side openly chatting and counting their tips. Very unprofessional and completely out of character for such a high end restaurant. Their behavior was like attendants in a garage....just park and retrieve."

"Very nice atmosphere. Prompt valet service upon arrival; gracious treatment upon entry/check-in; quickly seated at table; and asked immediately for our drink order. The server kept an eye on us to ask for our order at an appropriate time. The menu has many selections but real treats are prime rib and the John Dory fish. The salads were tasty and the dinner selections arrived promptly and at 'just right' temperatures. The servers look like they come out of an old English restaurant and couldn't treat you better.
We requested a table with a view in our reservation and had a wonderful view of Orange County lights."

"Although the ambiance and service at Summit House was excellent, the quality of the food itself was mediocore. I had the prime rib and although I requested medium, it came out nearly well done. It was also quite dry. Granted, I didn't complain and send the meat back, but for a restaurant that specializes in prime rib, the chef should know not to send out a piece like that. Lawry's prime rib, this restaurant is NOT."

"this restaurant touts itself to be "fine dining" but the service isn't quite to snuff. our waitress, michelle, seemed overwhelmed with all her tables. a fine dining restaurant surely hires more help so that each patron is allotted a good portion of each server's time. it took her almost 10 min to come to the table to get drink orders and we also had to ask for water. as for the food, it was acceptable. filet was cooked as requested and the accompaniments of gratin potatoes and string onions were good. the lamb was tender but a little bland, although my mother liked it. the salmon was also pretty tasty. the summit peach martini was a little on the sweet side as was the english trifle dessert (the dessert presentation also needs help)"
