"The restaurant is beautiful! Great location looking out onto the park and lovely outdoor seating area. I loved the food. Every dish I had was so delicious. We decided to get a bunch of appetizers b/c they all sounded amazing. I got the beets and the asparagus and my husband had the beef tartare and the hush puppies. We started with the jar snacks. so fun and yummy.
our cocktails were fantastic, fresh, and unique.
The only downside was the service was slow. Our server seemed like he had too many tables and was always showing up after long periods of time exasperated.
Despite the service, we will definitely go back and enjoy the food throughout the seasons to see what is added to the menu."

"PV recently switched up most of its menu to highlight new spring produce like spring garlic, asparagus and ramps. Wow. Just amazing flavors. I'm never disappointed with any of my food here and this meal was no exception. The hushpuppies were the star of the evening, with a great golden brown crunch and slight cornbread sweetness that fit well with the creamed corn served underneath. The spring garlic relish and tasso ham cherry vinaigrette added necessary acidity and balanced out the sweet with savory and tang. Honestly though, you just can't go wrong with anything you order here. Chevre fritters are the perfect dessert for sharing! Love the lightness and custardy inside. Service was fantastic as well."

"That's what we had during our first visit to PV! The food and service were excellent. How in the world do they make the worlds most delicious preserved lemons and lighter than air ricotta???? Jar snacks are too delicious! Seriously - it is not possible for me to give anything other than - GLOWING praise!"

"Went to PV with a group of 6. Plates of appetizers were all unique and great for sharing. Each presented unique and distinct flavors and presentations. Main courses as well were diverse and creative. Staff knew the menu well and suggested great pairings of appetizers and mains in addition to wine. Intimate but happening even on an early Sunday evening."

"Food was amazing, steak tartare and asparagus salad to start, then lamb bolognese and beef loin, all four dishes were outstanding. Good wine list and great staff who really went out of their way, especially as we had a table of nobs near us, the staff were very apologetic and attentive. One of the best meals i have had in Chicago."

"Their use of seasonal ingredients is laudable but the menu has changed from sharing plates of various sizes to a more traditional set of courses. Portions are ok. Beet salad is outstanding. Entree prices are a bit too high but they have ambiance & location in their favor. Meatball special with spaetzle, lamb Bolognese with pappardelle, gnocchi, trout beignet were all interesting but not fabulous."

"Housemade Doughnut, Sticky Bun & lemon cake starters were perfection! The french toast was terrible, the bread was so burned, hardly edible. Biscuits and gravy, cheesy grits and seasonal (watermelon) mimosas were delicious. The bloody maria could have been spicier. Our waitress was very good with a great personality. My water glass was never empty and I drink a ton of water. A+"

"Service this past Sunday was outstanding (server with a beard). He was very friendly and attentive. Had to call him out. The food presentation was a little solitary - I had the egg skillet but it needed potatoes (in any form). Like the coffee cake touch at the beginning. I'll be back - especially in the summer. Love the patio."

"Their housemade granola is amazing - it's served with honey and a plain Greek yogurt, which I love for the tang to contrast the sweetness. There's no dried fruit with the granola, but you should ask for fruit compote served alongside the pancakes :)"

"Would definitely pick Vie over Perennial Virant. While the food was excellent, the service left a lot to be desired. Each round of drinks we ordered took over 30 minutes to arrive at the table. The only time our server seemed to be attentive to our tables needs was when the bill came (which he had somebody else who hadn't worked with us all night drop off).
The Lincoln Park vibe was as expected, but again I think I prefer the ambiance at Vie.

"I took my boyfriend here for his birthday dinner. We had a reservation for 7:30PM and didn't get seated until about 8:15PM. We had ordered drinks at the bar for while we were waiting, but never recieved them. Even when we were seated, EVERYTHING seemed to be taking forever. I know they were busy, but not any more busy than any other Chicago restaurant on a Saturday night. The food was good, but for the price, I would want my whole experience to be good as well. I probably wont be back. There are a lot of other places with good food and much better service."

"Perennial Virant was a bit of a disappointment. It has gotten great reviews so we were excited to dine there, but were really let down. The menu is great, but the execution of the dishes was mediocre. Everything we ate was just so-so; smoked trout beignets were quite bland and dry, seared scallops were well cooked but something in the dish (meyer lemon rind?) was off-puttingly bitter; duck confit was barely warm and lacked the wonderful crispy skin that makes duck confit so lovely. Despite excellent service and ambiance, I wouldn't go back."

"Perennial Virant was a good place to try once, but overall thought it was overpriced for what it was. The pork belly appetizer was outstanding, but the two main dishes we ordered were average. We expected more out of entrees that were priced at $30 each."

"We had a great bottle of wine and were looking for a restaurant that had food to matchPV has a great Duck dish on their regular menu -- so we grabbed our bottle and headed to PV --- only to find they had changed their menu with nothing to go with our special wine. The chef said he would work something out to go with the wine - if we gave him free rangeHe came out with a Great cut of Beef and Duck that was a perfect pairing with our wine.We went from very disappointed to very impressed with Service and a Creative Chef"

"Perennial Virant was a decent meal. We had a bunch of different things and enjoyed them all - but there was nothing stand out.
We started out with the Charcuterie and Ox Tail pierogies to start with. The Charcuterie was ok - and the Pierogies were pretty tasty (but I hated the pickled asparagus with it). Then we had the Trout, Duck Confit, and Chicken & Grits. Nothing excellent to share. It was decently tasty - the trout was probably the best. We finished with the Lemon Meringue and Chocolate Chip Cookies - those were proably the highlight.
For the price, I think I would go elsewhere. It was just good, not great. The service was really good - I would highly recommend the service."

"I was hosting 6 friends/colleagues for dinner. When I went in I asked the maitre d of the restaurant if I could get a surprise birthday candle on the dessert of one of my guests. She asked the name. Even had me spell it twice.
When my guests arrived a waitress came over and said. "I hear someone is having a Birthday". So the surprise was blown. No matter. I thought it will be fine when they make the dessert special. But then when the dessert came there was no candle. No birthday nod. It was all very awkward. Talk about not giving attention to your customers. Sad. It was an empty restaurant. Not busy at all. Sad. Upsetting. Made us feel unwelcome.
I still tipped 20 per cent. But left 470 dollars poorer in spirit.

"Great atmosphere, different but unique food. It was good, but not the place to go for something hearty or standard. The items are delicacies, sparing no use of butter, fat or other delicious-tasting item. This is the place to go to try new things and small plates with rich and different foods."

"I went for a business dinner during Chef's Week. I really like the room, and the service was outstanding -- attentive without being intrusive. The limited menu was a little disappointing (the regular menu was not available), but a small number of selections from the regular menu were available as add-ons. Pumpkin beignets were good, but were fairly sweet and seemed more like a dessert than a starter. We supplemented the apps with a cheese plate and the sweetbreads, both of which were excellent. The trout was terriffic; baked Alaska dessert was good (I am not much of a dessert person). Very interesting wine list (nice selection of Rhone reds), and a very good beer list. My guests thought that the cocktails were great. Will return."

"Wonderful experience! Our waiter was extremely knowledgable, gave great recommendations, and was very attentive without being overbearing. The courses were perfectly timed, everything was cooked to perfection, and Chef Virant came out to chat with us for several minutes at the end. Overall an excellent time! Would highly recommend and will be coming back soon! And if you have time, check out the J. Parker rooftop bar before or after your meal - the view is breathtaking!"

"Visited as part of Chicago Chef's week. The special menu offered varied choices that were creative, interesting and delicious. Was afraid the butterscotch cream pie would be too sweet, but it turned out to be a wonderful finish to the meal. Thoroughly enjoyable and look forward to the next time I visit."

"We have been to PV on multiple occasions and every time the food, atmosphere, service and overall experience are fantastic.
I love the eclectic combinations the chef puts together, their presentation and the way all the flavors blend.
Last week we took a group of 11 from work to PV and again, we were treated to fabulous service. All of my colleagues raved about the food and atmosphere. I was impressed they served all of our dishes in a timely manner. All the dishes were the proper temperature. Our drink classes were never emptied (whether it was water, wine, cocktails or soda). I commend them on moving the table along but not being overly pushy (as I knew there was another group waiting for our table later in the evening).

"The meals were disappointing considering the hype. There is heavy reliance on onions and garlic which are used to stand in the place of sauces and the food flavors. The quality of the food was much higher when it was simply Perennial."
