"I guess I'm a food snob, but I tried the 7 course dinner and wasn't impressed because I felt like I've had it all before. Maybe parts of 2 dishes were creative, but the rest was as expected and didn't blow me away. Nonetheless, my family and friends enjoyed their meals very much. So if you've never tried a fancy, multi-course meal, than this is a great place! But if you're expecting something different, go elsewhere!"

"All courses superbly delicious. Soup was divine. Filet perfect. Best venison I've ever tasted & perfect pairing with wild boar chop. Historic atmosphere of the hotel and bar is magnificent. Service was very good, but was overshadowed by the excellent quality of the food. Waiter great. Sommelier less so.

"Overall experience was great. The food was outstanding, and the wait staff were very polite. They really make sure you enjoy your time there. "The portions on the tasting menu are extremely small. I left hungry, which was my choice, but I felt after 2 hours of a lovely, but extremely tiny seven course "legendary flight" local options on Austins street scene were my best dessert. Otherwise, the place is wonderful, great bar, one of the best in town...and a chef with an excellent taste for what diners enjoy, and a menu that could dissatisfy only problemites. My only advice...avoid the tasting menu if you want a heavy course, otherwise try one of their other excellent items...word to the wise...if the portions too small, don't say you heard it from me!"

"Friday night meal for two, initially worried as it was quite quiet but it soon filled up. Simple menu yet with interesting flavor combinations everywhere. We went a la carte but would really like to try the tasting menu when I'm back in town. I tried the bacon wrapped dates (stuffed w/ chorizo & cheese) as an appetizer, the sweet and savory combo was a delight. For mains I had Rib eye, lady had the Fillet, both cooked as requested and delicious. As it'd been our first meal out in a while we pushed the boat out for a great Burgandy for me and a half bottle of Sancerre for her, both were great and served with a miniumum of fuss. What made our night was the service from everyone but particularly Bryn who was fantastic, attentive and a hoot!"

"My husband and I really enjoyed a nice dinner there for our 14th wedding anniversary. The hostess was very sweet, she let us know it would be a few minutes before our table was ready, even though we had made a reservation - which just isn't a big deal to me. Apparently it was a big deal to the couple that came in after us with a reservation because they huffed out after being rude to the hostess when she said their table wasn't ready. She was a little flustered by the experience when she seated us, but we let her know we thought she handled their boorish behavior really well. Your servers/manager were all very outgoing and nice, as well as attentive, though they could use a little more training in the "fine dining/serving" area."

We ordered dinner off the Restaurant Week menu, which can sometimes be disappointing, as some restaurants diminish portion sizes or serve un-exciting dishes. Not the case here! "I ate at The Driskill Grill during Austin Restaurant Week. The appetizer and entree were quite good. The grouper was perfectly cooked and full of great flavor. Lovely presentation. I could take or leave the dessert (poached pear); it was very simple and lacking something...especially compared to the other option (chocolate crunch bar) on the menu that my companion ordered.
They also presented us with an amuse bouche and sweet nibble at the end. Both were quite good.
Ambiance is great; it's set in a historic hotel. I've been told that Driskill Grill skews old, but ARW was a good mix of folks...likely due to the low price of the set menu. Our servers for the evening were very friendly and efficient. We felt like we were in good hands."

"Just went to the Driskill since the Hyatt group took over. The menu changes were excellent! The dishes seemed a little more adventurous and special. "A wonderful dinning experience. Our table was covered by 2 waiters and the sommelier. It was the first fine dining experience for my 11 year old tiwn daughters. The staff was great helping the girls understand the menu. I opted for 5 course service and the girls had entrees with and appitizer. I had them try the beef tartar which I thought was good but the girls didnt care for it. All of the remaining course were great. The service was well timed even though I had a couple of extra courses.I also was impressed by the selection of half bottles on the wine list. I was able to choose a good wine without trying to drink an entire bottle by myself. The beef tartar was taken off the bill because the girls didn't like it."

"My parents came in from out of town for a visit, and we chose what we hoped would be a wonderful spot for dinner. The wait staff was extremely friendly and certainly attempted to be attentive. . However, we ended up waiting and waiting and waiting for our food. We waited about 45 minutes for our first course, and then there was probably an hour between the appetizer/salad course and the delivery of the entrees. The waiters were clearly spread thin, although the restaurant was not full. When we finally spoke to the waiter about our lengthy wait, he apologized and said the food would be out soon. Eventually, another gentleman came over and apologized for the delay. He informed us that a lot of orders had been submitted at once."

"I made the reservation for my 30th birthday with my girlfriend. I made a note in the comments section saying it was our first time and it was a special occasion. We got there a few minute early and they were getting the table ready, the hostess said it would be worth it and invited us to have a drink in the bar. The bar is low lite and very nice for couples. 10 minutes later our table was ready. It nice small table in the corner with a bench. Great for couples to sit and hug. We got the quail and a bottle of wine using the 5 course options. Everything was perfect. Overall the price was within reason. Our waiter even saw us on 6th street and said hi to us. We plan on staying at the hotel the next time we are in Austin"

Loved: The wine Selection
Service: The service was exceptional except for a few minor details. I had to wait 15 minutes for my coffee and I was handed paper menues without a jacket. I was told, "it's better than having me wait!" I felt "second-class" sitting close by chefs who seemed well-known to the staff, as well as regular guests that seemed to be treated with outmost care.
The menu did not have many options. My husband's ribeye had sinew running through it and was very chewy. He was also given the wrong sides with his entree."

"Always love the Driskill Grill and tonight was no exception. Tasting menu of 5 dishes paired with excellent wines was both imaginative and stimulating - a trip for all the senses. Can't remember the last time I saw a kangaroo on a menu as an entre but we took the plunge and did not regret it. Food was simply outstanding. Service was friendly, personal and most attentive. Sommelier depth of knowledge was impressive and enthusiasm was infectious - wine pairings were wonderful. Attention to detail impressed too - seating couples side by side instead of across the table was particularly appreciated, a very nice touch!

"Apparently, you go to the Driskill Grill for the ambience, not for the food. An effort was made to present the foodwell, but the flavors fell short. Two diners were vegetarians, and two were not. We ordered the four-course tasting menu. All the portions were tiny. Sometimes the vegetarians had to make do with the regular item with the meat left off of it. For the amuse bouche, a tiny version of a following course (beet carpaccio) was substituted for the salmon the other diners had. My salad (if you can call six lettuce leaves a salad) was actually gritty from not being washed properly. One diner found her risotto too salty to eat. Mine was very salty, but edible becase I like salty food. But just barely. Not worth returning."
