This location began a trend over 35 years ago serving the best quality product available at a very reasonable price. "AAA" Alberta Prime Rib and Certified Angus Steaks are the two staples that have made the Sawmill Restaurants the most popular dining establishments in the city. This location is divided into a dining room and pub. The dining room is like no other in the city, first class dining in a rustic Sawmill atmosphere. Surrounded by old sawmill blades measuring 5 feet in diameter and photographs as large as 30 square feet featuring sawmills over a hundred years ago. The pub is reminiscent of an English style with half its draught beer imported from the United Kingdom. Try one or sample them all to decide which will be your pint of choice!

"It was my son-in-laws birthday earlier in the month so he chose the location - he wanted to have lobster. I had the prime rib which I had been craving. All in all, the food was very good - except that my prime rib could have been heated more. The service was very good and the server came around several times to check on our table. I was impressed with the layout of the restauant - tables are far enough apart that you cannot hear other diner;s conversations. A pleasant dining experience"

"To avoid the Mother's Day brunch crowd, the family went for a nostalgic dinner at the southside Sawmill. Have been going to this location for years and Mum wanted a taste of good, basic steak. We went after 5pm and as we suspected the restaurant was busy, but not full. Despite a few hiccups in service this time (one entree and a side dish were late to the table due to a kitchen error), the food itself was good. Prime rib and lamb were prepared and presented as ordered--great flavour. The ribs were tasty, meat quite tender. The side vegetables unexpectedly turned out to be just one vegetable, but the huge Yorkshire pudding made up for that. Had a good and apologetic server. Will return."

"The service was extremely poor, only saw the waiter when we ordered and when we asked for the bill. The front receptionists lack of clothing was appaling. The food was chicken alfredo was very bland, but the steak was good. Will not be returning."

"I arranged for a large group to be there for a birthday gathering. Considering that these situations can be chaotic at best the staff was very well prepared to receive us. Our food and beverages were attended to very quickly and we were not waiting for anything. This is especially difficult with a larger party yet the Sawmill pulled this off without a problem. The food was very good and anything I tried was quite excellent. I had a rib-eye which was cooked perfectly and was very tender and juicy. My only draw back might have been the pasta side option (Fettecuni Alfredo) which seemed to be drowning in sauce which still tasted okay. The stuffed potatos looked more appetizing and many of the other guests enjoyed them immensely."

"Unfortunately our dinner at the Sawmill was less than desirable. We were celebrating a bday and if not for the company of our small group, the night would not have been enjoyable. We were seated in a room with a large group that was celebrating a 40th wedding anniv. The group was loud (clinking glasses) to the point where we had to raise our voices to talk. Dale, our server, was kind enough and did his best to keep everyone content. When our food came out it was ALL wrong. The plates lacked any sort of presentation, we had one piece of broccoli, the steaks were all mixed up and cooked incorrectly (I asked for med rare and got blue). The stuffed potatoes lacked flavour, were over cooked and dry. Yes, they bought 2 dinners, but not the point."

"The restaurant itself almost seemed like it could use a more modern facelift. But the service was great. The waiter was there when we needed him but was not in the way too often. I do have to say that that the meal took a little long to make, but the taste and perfection of the steak made up for it. All in all a great experience at the Sawmill. "Went to the Sawmill for our anniversary. We had the special of steak or teriyaki chicken breast with shrimp and bacon-wrapped scallops. It also came with starter salad and dessert. Also on the Thursday that we went, they had 50% off wine special. We found the ambiance was nice and quiet with a romantic feel to it. The special was excellent. With the wine being 50% off, we enjoyed a bottle of wine for $16.50. Definite special evening in a great restaurant. Very happy with this choice for our anniversary. We will definitely return."

"First they put us in a table for ten and not twelve. One of us ordered steak and Lobster and we never got the lobster tail. He was very unhappy. The waiter argued about some of the food on the menu. They were not happy at all. The waiter should have made sure everyone got what they ordered. Thats his job."

"We dined at the busy Easter Sunday Brunch and had exceptional service from the wait staff, but we were off in the lounge area and the traffic flow at the buffet was very poor, especially at the egg and hot meats section. The chafing dishes were impossible for me to manage as I have a slight mobility issue. You really need to purchase new ones...your demographic need this! All the food I had was tasty and there were abundant choices.
We were seated in a booth and I find those difficult to get in and out of. When I asked about a table the waitress was so very kind and offered to bring me a chair to sit at the end of the table. Compared to recent dining experiences it was refreshing to have someone do the problem solving on her own."

"found it odd that even though it was brunch and everything from Fried chicken to stew was available...there was only one choice of potato...hash browns...If your serving everything from Carved Beef to seafood..youd think thered be at least mashed or backed?...not even potato salad on the salad bar!..

"We went for the Sunday Brunch. This is probably the 6th or 7th time we have done so. We usually come in at 10 AM to beat the rush. The service is very timely, our waitress comes by often to refill our coffees. The variety of the buffet is mind blowing. It ranges from Caesar salad to Roast beef, omelettes prepared for you and an nice selection of sea food. Leaving room for dessert becomes a challenge. But its worth the effort, with a chocolate fountain, trays of cookies and cakes."

"Amazing service and food. When my father in-law was in Edmonton last year we went to the Keg. It was so loud that we had trouble visiting. Also the table are spaced nicely apart so you really can get lost in your visit and feel your the only family in the restaurant even when the place is packed. "That was the 2nd time for us to have dinner st Sawmill-southside.Again it was very bad.We went Sawmill-WESTEND170st 2 weeks before.They were very good.We shared one order.We got 2 plates with full sidedish and half meat on each plate.We ordered the same at southside.But they brought 1 full meal on 1 plate with other empty plate.So we separated them on each plate.And a waitress cheated me.My change was $10.64.She gave me $10.50.I gave her $10 as a tip because I didn't know she cheated.I was very surprised of her dishonest.Never,Ever go to Southside again!Terrible!

"Going here for dinner to celebrate my 30th birthday was a great choice! There was enough variety on the menu to satisfy all 4 of us - my mom and brother had steak, my husband had ribs and I had lobster. We all enjoyed our food! The service was impeccable! Our waitress was awesome! Prompt service, we never had to flag her down for anything such as refilling drinks. All our orders were correct and came out at the same time (unlike the night before at a different restaurant). Both the waitress and manager checked to see if the food was alright!
The decor needs a little updating, but other than that I have no complaints. I signed up for their loyalty club to receive the birthday discount, but I'm sure we'll be back again."

"We both had steaks and they were ok; not great for the price. There was a weird sauce on the vegetables that I did not care for. Our server was aloof but efficient in the beginning. Then he got really busy and he never came by again. We were going to order dessert but since he never came back we did not. Eventually we caught his eye and he came with the bill. I don't think I would go back again."

"We had a "surf and turf" type Valentines dinner at the Sawmill..crablegs,steak,shrimp skewers,and lobster tail for a great price..
THERE WAS SO MUCH FOOD,WE TOOK HOME A DOGGY BAG..;)
Service was a bit slow..due to it being Valentines..but the server was cheery and brought basklets of bread,ice tea etc..
We parked round back..and noticed a grocery cart full of boxes,gargage in the alley etc..
That part of the lot should be cleaned up a bit!"

"The table was in a great place. We were secluded from everyone else and had privacy. Our drinks came quote promptly, but my date's beer was luke warm. It took about an hour to get our food. My steak was kind of thin and didn't have the greatest taste, but my date said his tasted fine. The lobster was great.
For the money we paid, I felt we should have been a little more happy with the overall experience. Though it wasn't terrible, I had a better experience at Montana's the week before for half the price."

"Overall the experience was good they would have gotten a very good but for two incidents. The kitchen lost our appetizer order, so we waited a long time for the order to come. The waitress did take the cost off the bill. Later the waiter was pouring water into a glass but instead he poured it onto a plate."

"We all arrived a few minutes in advance of our reservation time. However, our reservation was not ready when we arrived. Staff did apologize for the mixup but tables were not set up and did not match. looked like they had to scramble and find tables to set up for us. Not what i have come to expect from Sawmill. Was disappointed at first since we had made the reservation a few days in advance and someone from Sawmill phoned day before to confirm. Not sure if any advantage in making reservation in advance.
Staff and service and food were great after we got a table!"

"We brought a four-generation party for brunch, from two toddlers to Great Grandma and everybody enjoyed it! We had a friendly welcome, choice of seating and an amazing selection breakfast and dinner items. The kids were delighted with waffles and fresh fruit. My breakfast selections were rounded out with a savory ceasar salad and slice of medium rare roast beef. Consensus was the stuffed toffee pudding was the hit of the dessert table.

"I had made a reservation on line, and made a special request to do something embarrassing to my girlfriend, or even to bring her a muffin with a candle on top. But nothing was done and I was disappointed. My meal was pretty good but my girlfriend's ribs were overcooked. As for the service it was a young awkward gentleman, who kept annoying us with a series of questions followed by a long pause and stare session.
I've been to your restaurant about 5 years ago and had one of the best meals of my life, I'm not sure what happened but I'd encourage management to make changes in certain areas.
