"The location is great as it is tucked off University Avenue, so there are plenty of dessert options for afterward, However in comparison to all of the other restaurant options that are available within a 1-mile radius, I would opt for the other establishments. The gnocchi was the highlight of the evening resting atop a light tomato base which complimented the pillow-like dough. Aside form that, nothing worth noting. The demographic was mostly comprised of families, the waiters were attentive until it got busy."

"What makes Vero great is that it is "fine dining" but in a non-pretentious and simple elegance setup. You can go in jeans and usually get a spot through OpenTable. Showing up without a reservation might require a 10 minute wait. Great outdoor seating and a couch to relax on if you have to wait. Unbelievable pastas and ask for the Spaghetti Carbonara even if not on the menu. Unreal. Ask for Brian's section, he is the best."

"From the moment we walked in it felt like we were in Italy again with the open kithchen and warm inviting atmosphere. Eric, our waiter was one of the best we have ever had. Attentive, great suggestions, friendly. We started with teh special leek/potato soup, perfect for a cool night. Then the fruti di mare salad, delightful. Then the special risotto. Flavors and portions were just great. We were rushing off to a movie so did not get to enjoy dessert, but they looked good. A real shout ot to the restaurant staff, including the bus service. All were part of the low hum of bustling and we really enjoyed this first visit and will be back soon."

"Moved here a year ago and I go out almost 6 times a week. I am always looking for a new entry to call "home" in my search for just wonderful restaurants. Never heard of Vero - found it here on OpenTable - looked cute - brought friends and could not have been happier! From the special attention of the staff, to the "wine lessons" for me and my friends, including introductions to new wines - everything was just perfect. I will be back, bringing old friends and new, for this is going to be one of my "Regular" Top 5 Favorites!! In fact, I think I will make a reservation for next week. :-)"

"Went the night before Mothers Day, so there were a few larger groups. Waiter wasn't very helpful with food choices, but another waiter came by and told us about a couple of items not on menu. Food was served fairly promptly, but not totally heated through on both appetizer and main courses. Waiter barely acknowledged us after taking order and had to be reminded to bring a second glass of wine.
I'd give it another chance because you could tell the food could be really good."

"Just off the craziness of University Ave in Palo Alto, this very pretty and comfortable restaurant serves excellent Southern Italian food with fresh ingredients. They also have an interesting, thoughtful wine list very fairly priced. We love to return - service is always outstanding, as well."

"Excellent homestyle Italian food. Seasoning is really nicely balanced. Portions generous. Pasta is perfect al dente every time I have visited. Sauces remind me of eating at agriturismos in Italy. Prices very reasonable, great value. Atmosphere is calm; great place to hold a conversation."

"I had the lasagna and it was very good. My friend had the spicy braised beef sugo & parmigiano and it too was very good. The cauliflower soup as a starter was a disappointment. It tasted like pureed cauliflower in water. There was no depth to it. I would go back again and give it another shot. The prices were reasonable for Palo Alto. However, the service wasn't good. We sat and sat for at least 10 minutes. I had to ask someone to get water, then ask someone for menus and then for a waiter just to order wine. Again had to flag him down to place our order. Not cool. It wasn't even busy when we arrived at 6:30. If they could improve the service it would be really good."

"Vero comes up ranked 3rd in Palo Alto on Open Table, behind Evvias and Tamarine. There is a BIG quality jump between Evvias and Tamarine, and an even bigger jump between Tamarine and Vero. While everyone in our group was pleased with their meal, it's not a place I'll crave to go back to. We ordered a seafood ravioli, a vegetarian ravioli, and a meat lasagna, with an eggplant starter, and salami chocolate dessert. Each main dish had a distinctive flavor, with handmade pasta, and thankfully not over-sauced. The starter was a disappointing slice of eggplant lasagna, similar to the meat lasagna, and therefore not a true starter. Also the dessert was a plate of over-baked, chocolate cookies with ice-cream. The wine list is good."

"We had a great dining experience at Vero on Saturday night. We were warmly greeted by the owner and were really well looked after by Brian. The food was exceptionally good. After living in France for several years, I really grew to love Branzino. The Vero version was excellent. The burrata starter was also very good. My wife got a special pasta which was also delicious. After looking for a good neighborhood Italian restaurant for so long, it was great to finally find one.
We will be back."

"The burrata was fresh and so tasty, and the spinach salad was perfection. The Alaskan cod was the special of the evening, simply prepared and highlighting the freshness with a tomato based broth The duck breast was perfectly grilled and served with roasted fingerling potatoes and Madeira sauce- not too oily or fatty. Coffee is fresh per order. The desert with crushed cookie and cocoa powder, served with ice cream, missed for us. The apple crostata was lacking in adequate. apple filling. Summary: great meal, only let down was the deserts."

"Vero is our favorite Italian restaurant in Palo Alto. The food is consistently good and is authentic Italian. It's a small neighborhood restaurant with cozy ambiance. Great homemade pasta and great desserts. A decent selection of wines by the glass. Will definitely keep on coming back!"

"The burrata cheese was delicious! Salmon fresh and perfectly cooked. Server was not very attentive - we needed more bread to go with the cheese starter and we tried to get him 3 times when he passed our table but he was oblivious. It was lunch and there were only 2 other tables in the restaurant at that time so it was not like he was busy."
