"I have been here many times. The quality of the food has deteriorated consistently. Expect to spend $100+ per person including drinks, but expect to feel like you had a meal at a $30/pp restaurant. Service was weak and unfriendly."

"It was a interesting restaurant. It was a renovated home so it is cozy. The food portions are very very small, but delicious. The scallops and gnocchi were the best. Great to try it out."

"An amazing experience all the way around! From the quaint atmosphere to the superb service and, of course, the exquisite food. Chef Takashi really nailed it with this one. If you have a chance, stick around for dessert - one of Chef's signature desserts, "The Egg" is phenomenal."

"We tried the tasting menu with 7 courses and wine pairing. Everything was delicious but the highlights were the beef, the scallop and dessert (a chocolate creme brûlée with caramel and sea salt). The pairing wa nice as well. Restaurant is very quiet (which we liked). Staff is present but not too much. Highly recommended."

"We have been to Takashi at least 3 times. The food is always very interesting and delicious. I had the fluke and my husband had the short ribs, both were very good. Our friends started with the salmon/crab appetizer and were raving about it. All in all a wonderful way to spend Friday night with friends."

"My husband and I went there to celebrate our anniversary. We had the cold salmon and crab appetizer along with the hot scallop appetizer. Both appetizers were amazing. I had the duck and my husband had the short ribs and pork belly. Again, both were fabulous! We ordered dessert and they brought an extra dessert as well with Happy Anniversary written in chocolate. It was such a nice gesture and once again we were so pleased. I cannot say enough about how great the food was and the service as well. We'll definitely return next time we're in Chicago!"

"This was not our first time at Takashi, and it won't be our last. I love this place! Takashi's has both small plates (hot and cold) and Main Plates - all highly creative, beautifully presented and delicious!
They also have an interesting cocktail list and great wines, many really good ones available by the glass.
The space itself is cozy and casual, very comfortable and homey... and the service is great as well!"

The tuna tacos were great to start with, the pork belly was savory, and the scallops were to die for. I've never been a big fan of duck, but Takashi has converted me! "We're going back to eat the rest of the menu...once we have more OpenTable gift certs. Amazing flavors, fresh and balanced with fruit, veggies, and decadent proteins. Chef Takashi's offerings were everything we hoped for after watching him work magic on Top Chef. Service was impeccable. Pacing of the meal was perfect. Cocktails are delicious and unlike anything I've seen elsewhere in Chicago. We went as a couple, I wouldn't go with more than party of 4 as it could kill the atmosphere. "Not only was the service slower than almost any experience I have ever had, but the wait staff CONTINUOUSLY dropped items, both at our table and at the other tables. They had to pull out the broom to clean up a broken glass, replace silverware, it was a circus. Our server also mispronounced several items, giving me an overall feeling he didn't know what he was talking about. On top of that, the portions were really small for really high prices. We received two of the tiniest pieces of bread I have ever seen at the beginning of our meal and after our first cold small plate was served it was a good 20 minutes until our next plate came out. The overall experience was poor enough to dampen a lot of really good dishes (small as they were!)"

"We arrived for our 6:00 reservation. Sadly we didn't know that the main dining area was at the top of a long flight of steep stairs, which my 78 yr old mother could not negotiate. We were shown to a table on the main floor, but, it was very cold, loud and not at all the atmosphere for the dining experience we had anticipated. Had we stayed, we would have had to eat with our coats on. So we left, and decided to try my second choice, Chez Moi on Halsted. Obviously we didn't have a reservation, but we were seated immediately and had delicious bistro fare. Afterward we learned that Chez Moi had just been mentioned in Chicago Mag, which explained the large Tuesday night crowd. I'd go back."

"I love this place. The food is, every time we've eaten here, perfect. Each and every course of the tasting menu has been perfect, which is a rarity. Takashi makes me wish I lived in Chicago. The space is a bit cramped, and we always seem to be seated beside loud obnoxious people with nothing to say, and a need to say it at top volume. The food and sake, however, trumps everything."

"The food was absolutely incredible. Great combination of food and ingredients, a true art. We tried most of the items on the main menu and nobody was dissapointed. The service was a bit dry, not warm enough by my standards but still very professional. We were the last guests and we felt a bit rushed out at the end, bringing the bill, checking on it a few times. We clearly would of liked to stay a bit longer but felt uncomfortable by all the staff wanting us to get out. Will come back, but earlier next time!"

"My wife and I hadn't been out for over a year since the birth of our triplets. We decided on Takashi from a recommendation from a friend who had been there once. I called ahead and let them know that while it wasn't a birthday or anniversary, it was still a special occasion. We had the omakase, tasting menu, and the wine pairing. All of the food and wine that we had were great! The scallop and gnocchi dish was one of my favorites. The texture of both main components was prefect. I don't think I have ever had a better scallop. I really like the double braised pork belly too. It was sticky and gooey and almost like candy. I had never had a macaroon before that night. Wow! Our waiter was awesome, knowledgable but not pompous! Go to Takashi!"

"We had the Soy Marinated Tuna with Crispy Tortilla, Terrine of Squash and Goat Cheese, Sautéed Maine Scallops and Soba Gnocchi, Roasted Indiana Duck Breast. The food was incredible. Everything was so delicious. The wait staff was attentive, not overbearing at all, and really catered to our table. It is on the expensive side, but so worth it for special occasions or if you got the Groupon!"

"Heard a lot about this place and finally had a chance to try it. Overall, good restaurant. The service was great, good sake and wine list, the food selection was very enticing. We really enjoyed our appetizers and desserts. The main courses were a slight let down compares to appetizers. But overall I still think this is a good place to visit."

"This was our third time dining at Takashi and it gets more amazing every time. We did the tasting menue and it is a worth every penny. I find Takashi to be the perfect balance of high quality, fine dining, without me leaving hungry or puzzled by what I just ate. I am so fortunate to have this restaurant in my neighborhood. "Takashi is so unassuming that we drove past it at first, but inside the small restaurant is cozy and romantic without being too quiet. Every dish I ordered was excellent, and the house smoked salmon was especially tasty. I ordered three desserts and loved all of them - the sesame panna cotta with pickled cherries, crisped rice and cherry cacao nib ice cream (like Ben & Jerry's Cherry Garcia, but better), the mont blanc with chocolate mousse, praline crunch, passion fruit and cranberries, and the pistachio macaron with egg. All were excellent and I think pastry chef Courtney Josephs is one of the most underrated in the city. None of her desserts are too sweet, and the flavors/textures/presentations are creative, thoughtful and delicious."
