Roka Akor is Scottsdale's premier Steak and Sushi restaurant; featuring Prime Steaks, Seafood, and Wagyu Beef, cut in-house and grilled to perfection over an open flame on a traditional, Japanese Robata Grill. Additionally, Bon Appetit Magazine recognized Roka Akor Scottsdale as one of the "Top 10 Sushi Spots" in the U.S., praising the restaurant for their beautifully prepared sushi and sashimi platters. The adjacent Shochu Lounge features house made, seasonal shochu infusions and signature cocktails in contemporary, relaxed surroundings. The restaurant offers two private rooms and an outdoor patio. Guests can choose from a more intimate setting in the main dining room, patio, or lounge, or opt for a front-row view of the chefs at the robata counter.

"Second visit in a week was a totally different experience. The waiter was struggling to keep up. He was not capable of handling all of his tables. I went for the Japanese A5 Kobe Beef. Guess what? They were out of it, because they were giving it away in a Beef flight. I guess that is like a wine flight, but with beef. I settled for the Australian Waygu. It was good, but nowhere near the A5. The manager more than made up for it, requiring a return visit to try to get it right."

"Some of the group did the seasonal chef selection others ordered entrees. We were warned about the timing since not everyone was doing the tasting menu. It worked out perfectly fine. The courses flowed very well and we were all able to try a lot of different things. We also got several appetizers that were good especially the pork belly, calamari and scallops. It was very good food and our waitress was extremely helpful. The infused shochu (mango chilie) was delicious. It was my father's birthday so I had a cake delivered to the restaurant before they opened. They were extremely helpful in getting that set up and brought the cake out with candles (which I had forgotten to even ask about)."

"Roka Akor has a very hip atmosphere. Walking in the door between the fire pots is very cool. The tables are spaced far apart which is great. I wish more restaurants would do that. The Waygu beef and kimchee dumplings were great. For an entree, you cannot do better than the Japanese A5 Kobe beef. It is the best there is and the kitchen executed it perfectly. The sweet potato with ginger teriyaki was very good. I am not a sushi fan, so I cannot comment on that, but everything I had was worth a repeat visit."

"When we first arrived, I really thought we had driven a great distance for a mistake. It was quite noisy, the waiter seemed abrupt and of the 4 wine choices, none were available!In addition, I like a starch with my meat and do not like sweetpotatoes.I settled on a small bowl of white rice that I had to pay for.The manager adjusted the wine price of another bottle, the mushrooms were very good and the ribeye was to die for. The waiter came around to be very nice,and all-in-all we really enjoyed our dinner."

"I came in on Easter Sunday for dinner. Dined on Shigoku oysters with yuzu and Umi masu toro mi (ocean trout belly)with osetra caviar. I was told I got one of the last bites for a while. Amazing. A new menu item of local beet salad with jalapeno miso vinaigrette was so refreshing and wonderful. Not the standard you see on every menu in town. One of the most interesting dishes I had was the Rabbit Tenderloin with pickled plum, shiso and aka miso. So much flavor and innovation. Service was outstanding as always."

"Once we were sat in the main dining room our service started out good with our waiter taking our orders. What did not happen as we found out later was the food once ordered will come out sporadically as explained each dish will come to the table as it is completed in one of their 3 kitchens. Not knowing this when one of the tables main dishs arrived they were waiting for the other before eating it. We waited 25 minutes to try and get our waiter and he told us how it worked but prior to him we had a very RUDE woman tell us we were told this process and it was not their fault. Also trying to get water refills was non existant. Manager sent a free desert for our troubles but may not go back. Too many other GREAT resturants in Scottsdale."

"Expensive, but everything is good. Wagyu beef not worth what they charge for it. Not terribly flexible. We had oysters on the half shell ($4.50 each!). They were pre-shucked, so they didn't offer coctail forks, even when we asked, and there were no alternate sauces. The one they use is good, but would have been nice to have some other choices."

"Wonderful! Everything was delicious & service was good. Don't like sushi?...No worries! They have a number of cooked choices and a wonderful list of steaks, fish, lamb & so on to choose from. I highly recommend the butterfish ap, pork belly ap, the sea bass dinner & hot pot. Be prepared to drop some cash- it's ala carte. Great sides are the sweet potato, Cremini mushrooms and the make mushrooms with truffles."

"We live in CA, but MUST eat at Roka Akor if we are anywhere near Scottsdale. It is the BEST Robata grill anywhere! We've had exemplary service in the past when Wesley and Casey worked here. Regrettably they're gone. Our server, Mike, was capable, but took it upon himself to not put in two items on our order, because of the volume. He was less than attentive, and failed to tell us of the specials, but later said he did when we saw oysters not listed on the menu. Regardless, the food makes up for any shortcomings in service."

"I got my Client in tonight from San Diego, and wow was he amazed with Roka.Chef Jason stopped at the Table,and it was amazing our Omakase was unreal.Jesse are Server did a great Job guiding us thru the whole Dinner,and answered all are question for us,truly a Great Job... Wine list was great and Decanted wow again.The Floor Manager all in Black is always right there unreal...."

"We arrived and were seated around 6:10pm, the Restaraunt was not busy at all. Three of the 4 of us received our drink order about 15 minutes later while we were still waiting for the wine tester that came another 5 mins plus later. The bottle of wine finally arrived another 10 minutes later but it then took the waiter 5 more minutes to open it as he kept talking and could not manage more than one thing at a time.
Our waiter really pushed the expensive items which we did order, only to be disappointed with quantity as well as quality. A $400++ bill for one bottle wine, three cocktails and "dinner", No birthday desert offer."

"Having had a challenging experience the last time, we went back to Roka Akor for another shot. If it weren't for Chef Jason and the fact that he is one of the most selective experts in the culinary arts in Scottsdale, this restuarant might be challenging for those looking for a superior dining experience. The Sushi, Beef, etc. is always the finest grade and their dedication to the meal quality is outstanding. Now it's time to beef up the service levels just a bit and expect more from the front of the house staff. Training never ends. They must learn how to read the guests to determine the type of dining experience they expect. Most of us give you clues before we sit down at the table. Watch, listen, and deliver."

"My husband and I have been here twice. Everything is outstanding, the service, the drinks (thanks to a fantastic bartender) and the food. The butterfish tataki appetizer is delicious, the rock shrimp tempura is a MUST, the black cod is amazing, the sushi is outstanding, I could go on and on. We go out to dinner ALOT and this restaurant is up there w the best in scottsdale, but yet its so different. YUM!"

"I went to Roka Akor when it was first open. The food then was authentic and unique. I went again about a year a go to try out the new menu and now, I went again only because my friends wanted to go there. I wouldn't recommend this place because the food is too Americanized to appreciate the art of Japanese culinary cooking. The atmosphere was noisy that I couldn't carry a conversation without screaming. This place might be for those who like the big, noisy fun but for me, fine dinning is an art and I do not take it for granted."
