"We've been to Buca's many times before--this was our first time in downtown San Diego. We expected noise and confusion and huge food portions. But we also expected tasty food. We had house wine (good), garlic bread (ok), chopped antipasta (fair--not really "chopped" and little meat or cheese), and lasagna (only fair--more like moussaka--lots of puffy ricotta and no visible noodle layer). We wandered for a long time before we found our way out (truly!)--had to be re-routed three times by servers who all apologized for how hard it was to find an exit (yup!). The location of this restaurant is convenient for walking around Gaslamp and it's nice to have valet parking available, but we won't be back."

"After a long day with 2 small kids at seaworld, Buca was the perfect place to have dinner before our train ride back up to LA.

"Went to the San Diego restaurant for my son's graduation dinner. The penne alla vodka dish tasted exactly the same as the shrimp fra diavollo dish!! The 4 of us couldn't believe it! Chicken parmigiana was okay. We had an email coupon for free garlic bread, & we didn't realize until we got home that we were charged for it-waitress forgot to take it off the bill. I called ahead & ordered a graduation cake, & the waitress didn't know anything about it. I was told we could wait while they decorated a new one! By this time, all we wanted to do was leave. I saved $30 by not waiting for the cake. We won't be going back here anymore.
It was supposed to be a nice family dinner, but turned out to be a big disappointment for my family."

"as we sat down to eat, we thought of the dreaded Mother's Day 2012, where we were miserable at another establishment who had a pre-fixe menu of NADA. so we held our breaths until Erik brough the menus and we were happy campers to find the selection of food to be various. Between the group we had the lasagna, stuffed sheels and stuffed prosciutto chicken. Everything was great, from the host to the staff of the restaurant. The coolest part was being walked through the kitchen which the do with all their guests so we can see what is happening in the background. Erik was a great server. he kept the glasses filled and checked on us every chance he got. We will definetely be coming back again...maybe for Father's Day."

"The love the feel of the restaurant. The food was excellent and the service was outstanding. I was however disappointed that you no longer serve the olive oil with the chili in it. That had such a good flavor. We loved to put in on our pasta and the Margarita pizza. Please, please bring it back."

"Buca never disappoints. Their food is good, their service is good and if you don't get enough to eat, you're doing something wrong! Their food is served "family style" which translates to huge servings. It's a great place to go with a big group or for a family gathering. Order a salad, some garlic bread and a couple of entrees and you'll all get stuffed. We've visited Buca several times for family birthdays and the servers have always been very helpful with serving cake brought we brought with us. They run an efficient operation at Buca."

"Came in from Phoenix to visit family and made dinner reservations as a surprise. We had a great night and the food was excellent with just the right amount served. The Stella wine was delicious and we also had our portrait taken. Great.deal and had an excellent night!!!"

"I enjoyed the fact that they placed us in a nice quiet booth (as requested) and they seated us as soon as we arrived. Also, everyone from the greeters to our server (sorry I cannot remember his name) were very kind and helpful. The food was amazing (as far as taste and presentation) and it was more than enough. They accommodated our special occasion."

"Jordan was quite slow the whole night. The waiter at the table next to us seemed much more full of energy and excited to be there. Jordan only visted the table when deleivering food or filling up our empty glasses that had been sitting there for a while. It was my friends first time going there and sadly we made the experience a little less special."

"The atmosphere is fun and vibrante. The staff do an outstanding job and are very friendly and knowledgeable about all the menu items. Service was outstanding and fast for Valentine's Day. The decor is fun to look at and reminds of you of an old family run Italian restaurant from the 50's. We enjoy taking friends here and frequent the downtown San Diego location often--we love the made over warehouse."

"Would have been a homerun all the way except for the fact that it was Valentine's Day at lunch, and place was pretty empty, so it might be even better when crowded & noisy. So nothing to complain about except my timing of my own reservation. I can't wait to go in the evening for what I can tell will be a truly great night of dining in a genuine, old school Italian ambiance."
