"Probably one of the best scallop meals I'd ever had. The service was fantastic. However many people were on staff, I believe all of them waited on us. If my water glass was 2 oz low, they were there to fill it. They made some great drinks as well. I started out with the salad which included a great chevre. While we could have ordered from the tasting menu, the group of 6 of us decided to go ala carte. Most of us had the scallops. My colleague had the salmon and said it was one of the best ever. We were brought palate cleansers between each course."

"Perfect - from the valet's greeting to dessert and everything in between - Perfect. The amazing food was matched by the service while doing so with a casual feel. Each course has Chef Nate's unique spin on a traditional dish and the dishes got better with every course. Our wait staff was extremely knowledgeable and had the uncanny ability to know when to appear tableside throughout the evening. We celebrated my wife's birthday and Tristan made it perfect.
My wife and I are foodies. There are many great restaurants in Charleston; Tristan stands out as notable among the notables!"

"The only thing better than the food is the service. They treat you right. The food is amazing. The location is awesome (but not on the water). The only "con" is that it's expensive. We had a great time. I would go back based on the delicious salmon and 4 star service. Make sure to make a reservation and enjoy a Charleston gem while you are down here on vacation!"

"Very disappointing food, the sous vide beef was tough and the chicken entree was extremely bland - it tasted like slices of chicken breast in creamed corn. This was one of the most expensive meals we had in Charleston, and also the least memorable. The dessert was the best part of the dinner. It will be quite a while before I'm ready to try Tristan again and risk wasting nearly $300 for an unsatisfactory meal."

"Tristan is by an away the best restaurant experience we had during our visit to Charleston. The service was highly attentive and informative. And the food was varied and multi-leveled. My friend ordered the Scottish salmon with roasted shallots, fennel agrogolce, and carrot puree. Delicious. I ordered the chicken breast, with house made ricotta cavatelli. Also lovely. Our waiter was friendly, enthusiastic, and knowledgeable about the food and helped us choose accompanying wine. The evening was truly delightful."

"Staying at the French Quarter Inn, Tristan seemed an easy decision being right in the hotel. The ambiance is an intriguing, modern look. The wine list was decent. The menu differs from what is online, but not dramatically. The waiter had the prerequisite pretentious attitude I believe is mandated in this type of establishment. I should have picked up on the first warning sign – the day of the Cooper River Bridge Run (one of, if not the busiest day every year in Charleston) at a prime seating hour the place was at less than 50% seated.

"I have been eating at Tristan's for a number of years, and have in fact known 3 different executive chefs, but one things has always been consistent, the excellent food and service. The Easter lunch had an option of a their fixed price 3 course menu, or the a la carte menu. We all opted for the fixed price menu, which at $40 was phenomenal value for money with a 3 options for each course. I think we covered all the offered dishes at our table, with great comments from every one. We had drinks plus wine by the glass, and our server's wine recommendations were spot on. Tristan's is one, if not the, top restaurant in Charleston, and looks to remain so for many a year."

"My wife and I took our children to Tristan for our big night out in Charleston. We loved the food. Our children are not used to fine dining so when they initially saw the menu they were skeptical about pork belly, braised short ribs and quail. However the chef made them all believers. Everything was prepared so well that they were basically licking their plates clean. This was an awesome experience."

"We have dined here often and the food has always been excellent. Creative, delicate, with unusual combinations in taste and presentation, although portions tend to be small even fir a average appetite. But they need to do something about the service...our wait person did an OK job accommodating numerous dietary restrictions, but we were made to feel apologetic for our requests. She abandoned us for long periods of time; we ended up pouring our own wine. The table asst. was CLUELESS...she removed the water classes and served the water in wine glasses and consistently poured the wrong type for each of us. How hard is it to do this stuff right? The food and ambiance are an A, the service is a C at best. They need to take a lesson from Hall's!"

"We changed our reservation from another restaurant to Tristan after speaking with some locals, and were glad we did. The experience was unforgettable. We love local traditional dishes, but Tristan offers a menu unlike any other restaurant in Charleston. We tried the Chefs tasting, and were blown away by the diverse options and perfectly executed dishes. My favorite was the speck with mango purée. Our server, Cameron, was very knowledgeable, guided us through the menu options, and added to the overall experience. This is a restaurant you don't want to miss."

"Dinner was great: food was very good in both presentation and flavors, our server was friendly and knowledgeable and the blood orange cocktail was memorable. The only issue we had was the temperature...we froze every time the air came on. Thanks for a great dinner!
PS There were several kids there which surprised us, but they were all really well behaved!!!"

"Great dinner for our bachelorette party. We all really enjoyed the meal, the ambiance was great, and it was the perfect nice dinner prior to us going out. "I just want to express our love for this restaurant. We frequently eat here for special occasions (anniversary, birthdays, Valentine's, etc.) and I can honestly say, this restaurant is amazing. Of course the French Quarter needs a complimentary restaurant because of their prestige, and this restaurant is it! The staff is some of the easiest and nicest group to talk to, especially Kelly and Cameron. Of course, everyone that's waited on us in the past has been excellent. My fiance' always gets the salmon, great choice btw and I always try something different. Their menu changes due to season, but give this place a try! What's not to like?!?"

"Tristan is definitely more about an "experience" than anything else. Don't get me wrong, the food was good - but emphasis here is on artistic presentation and unique ingredients. Which I do like, but this is not the place for a "meat and potatoes" type. I felt that there could have been one or two more items on the menu - perhaps some specials? I know the Chef's tasting is the 'special' but if there's one or two items on that tasting menu that particularly don't appeal, then it's not worth wasting it. (Such as Sea urchin in my case). I was surprised to see so many children here - that was unexpected. It didn't appear to me as a place that would have children's options, yet the staff seemed very accomodating."

"My favorite Charleston Restaurant. Both times I've been to Tristan, everyone at the table received 3 or 4 samplers in addition to the 3 courses we ordered. Every single dish has been unique and creative but most importantly extremely good. Not your typical boring menu. Clearly the chef has talent and passion.
The servers go out of their way to ensure you know that your table is a priority. Very professional.
This place stands out and I'll keep going back."
