More festive than a piñata stuffed with a mariachi band and twice as stylish, Calle Ocho’s lively crowd is amped up on Mojitos, Caipirinhas, Sangria and Spanish wine or beer and shows no sign of slowing down. Those not willing or able to holler over the salsa music retire to the two small lounge areas to commiserate. "The staff is very accomodating and eager to please. We were offered complimentary drinks because we had to wait 10 minutes past our reservation time of 5:30. (We were in a bit of a hurry and the hostess felt extremely bad)

"This restaurant was recommended to us by friends who lived in NYC. It is located off the lobby of a hotel, but don't let that fool you! Although the menu wasn't vast, what they prepared was awesome! The unique bread and black beans that comes to every table really set the mood for what was coming... a unique and flavorful experience. The Paella was delicious and I couldn't evern come close to finishing the portion. The timing of the meal was excellent and I would highly recommend this great restaurant."

"took an hour from the time we ordered/got our cocktails til the waiter came to apologize for delay in our order, first he said it was due to 'two parties of 25', offered a free glass of wine when i said i would prefer my food he said the my husband wanting his steak well done was causing the delay, my husband was not amused, in fact when the main courses finally arrived an hour and 10 min after ordering my husband no longer wanted his dinner. waiter apologized claiming a bar mitzvah that afternoon thrown kitchen off then claimed it was his fault i dont care who/what to blame, even an off handed remark that customer's preference (which by the way was MEDIUM not well done). no excuse for making customer feel responsible for poor service."

"Although I enjoyed my food I was only able to get two glasses of sangria with my meal. My previous experience at this restaurant was 200% better. I was able to try all of the sangria varieties they have and only had to wait in line. This time though, I had to practically beg the wait staff to bring me a second drink. Poor customer service. The staff appeared to be rushing the customers out of the restaurant more of a hurry and eat spot more than a chill brunch spot. Calle Ocho please take it back to the experience I had and enjoyed two years ago."

"I still give it a very good - but I liked the brunch better at the original location a block away. Having the 7 different sangrias and several different mojitos (mojitos are no longer included) at their own station for patrons to get at their leisure and as many times as they wanted was part of the big draw. And they took ropa vieja off the brunch menu, that is a staple of Cuban menus and my favorite . And I have to say the sangria tasted like red wine mixed to be sangria, not actual sangria itself. However, the food is still good, the service was very good. I just think it was a 5 star brunch - set up, menu, decor - at the old Columbus Ave location. I was a fanatic when it was there."

"My wife and I met relatives for dinner here. This was our first time and we consider ourselves foodies. My wife is pregnant, so it's important that service was timely and correct. We ordered calamari, empanadas, and shrimp for the table as appetizers, all were DELICIOUS! The calamari was some of the best we've had. For dinner my wife and I shared the seafood paella, which was so so good.
We skipped dessert, but i'm sure it would've been yummy."

"Had an early dinner and we really enjoyed the experience. Kitchen opens at 6pm, but bar is open earlier. Decor is warm and vibrant with great Latin music playing. Bar is roomy and drinks were good (mojitos and 2 types of sangria). Menu is interesting with lots of options (only one vegetarian entree). We enjoyed each of the appetizers and entrees. Service was attentive and nice. Would definitely return!"

"From the start with tasty rolls and black bean spread, to the delicious appetizers, entrees and outstanding desserts, Calle Ocho does not disappoint. The mojito is probably the best I've ever had, the vegetarian paella was more than filling, and the apple tart was just the right amount of sweet and tart. Go hungry and try it all.

"This place is one of my favorites. I came here for my birthday brunch on February and they were extremely accommodating. I then decided to take my mother her for brunch and she enjoyed it as well. The food is great the sangria If your not careful will put you on your booty but overall it was a great experience. I would recommend this place to anyone celebrating a special occasion . It is extremely important that you book in advance their brunch is highly anticipated so these reservations fill up quick !"

"I love bringing people to Calle Ocho (when I can get a reservation that is). I have only tried brunch, and I have had a great experience every time I have come. The sangrias are great, the atmosphere is great, and the food is usually good. The only reason I gave the food a 3 star is because the last time I came I ordered the Omelet, which was small and quite tasteless, especially for $14. I expected much better since the last 2 or 3 meals I had at Calle Ocho were pretty good. The person I came with enjoyed her food, the sangria and the atmosphere. And the service was great."

"Surprisingly good food considering the "all-you-can-drink" sangria is complimentary during brunch. The sangria is also pretty good & doesn't seem watered down. "The lighting was a bit dim, but the food was PHENOMENAL. I ordered the Pato: duck two ways. It was tender, tangy, flavorful, and all around perfect. My friend got the paella and really enjoyed it. We ordered sweet plantains on the side and they were cooked perfectly."

"Great ambiance! We wanted to have the hightly recommended brunch but couldn't swing it during our stay. Luckily we were able to work in dinner! Not tons for vegetarian foodies, but with a little creative ordering we really enjoyed ourselves. The staff was very friendly and attentive and our waiter was great."

"A Cuban delight on the Upper West Side. Energetic ambience and perfectly timed service for a busy Friday night.
The diverse range of appetizers catered to all our dietary needs and our waiter was at hand with very helpful recommendations. Grilled octopus and the goat cheese were heavenly.
Entrees to our delight were larger than expected with the sea bass deserving a special mention. Dessert was the perfect finish to a wonderful evening overall. We will definitely be back."

"Great food, relative to other brunch places a very very good deal. Sangria is delicious and lots of choices to pick from. There aren't really a ton of brunch options (I think there was one omelet) but the food is still delicious."

"The menu didn't really clarify the food, I thought I ordered something completely different from what I recieved. We waited an hour not so much for the food, but for the preparation/design of the food. Definetly not a family restaurant, but perfect for a date. Very dark, one little candle per table. I could barely see my food. My mother in law recommended it, but for the price we paid, I would have rather gone somewhere else."

"I go to Calle Ocho quite often. This is the second time I have been disappointed in the service. Our waiter was also taking care of two large parties, so he forgot about us. Then he tried to take my plate when I wasn't even half way through my plate. This is out of the ordinary for them, but it left a bad feeling with me."
