"First time to Funky Monkey & I have to say the food was tasty overall. The Stuffed Avocado & Crab Cake appetizers were great. The duck entree was excellent with a crispy outstide & tender inside. The salmon dish was a little bland to us & could have used more flavor. For dessert we had the bread pudding, it was tasty but you could tell it had been heated up in the microwave, that is a no-no for me. Service was very slow, it seems like they may have a tiny kitchen. We waited about a half hour for apps & another 15-20 after that for entree. Dessert also took a while & even paying the bill was a fifteen minute affair. Staff was friendly. Wines were good.
Overall I would say it is a restaurant I would try again not longing to go back to."

"Anniversary dinner at our neighborhood Funky Monkey in the Mills 50 district. Stuffed avocado is amazing and helped us stomach the $13 price tag. Asian Pear salad was a bit boring (they were out of hazelnuts and it is pretty much a big bowl of spinach). Won't order again. Loved the thai chili shrimp and rice special, although the portion was small. Bananas Foster dessert was out of this world! Service and ambiance always superb."

"this was my second dinner at this venue. service was slow and cabernet selection very limited for a "wine company". I ordered the spare ribs and hoped for something spectacular but it reminded me of pot roast. I was asked at the time of reservation if this was a special occasion--it was an anniversary. "My husband & I ordered short ribs & ginger salmon which were delicious, however the accompaniments - vegetables & mashed garlic & sweet potatoes -were cold & the garlic mashed not very flavorful. My adult son ordered filet mignon cooked medium - it came with a hunk of fat on the bottom, so he sent it back. When the waitress brought him a new steak, it came rare, so he had to send it back again. When she brought it back a third time he ate it, but it was still undercooked.
For dessert we asked the waitress for a dessert menu. She recited the three desserts offered, & my son ordered the cheesecake to go. When we received the bill, we saw the dessert was $10.00. We were shocked & thought the waitress should have told us dessert pric"

"The GREAT part was the food...if you are willing to wait 2 hours and get your meal BEFORE your appetizer. We were literally S.T.A.R.V.I.N.G. by the time we got any of our food. We did have 2 eight year olds with us and expressed that if their food (chicken tenders) be "rushed" we'd be more apt to staying. Our server was very attentive and am sure uncomfortable after the 2nd hour...but we certainly could not have any more alcoholic beverages because there was no bread offered while you waited. However, when we did get our entrees (fish AND before the sushi) it was amazing. We ate so fast that by the time our 3 rolls of sushi came (which was good but nothing special) we were full. Got there at 7:30pm, ate at 9:30pm (kids ate at 8:45pm)"

"We enjoyed our server but will not be back for the food. We are not impressed! The price was way high for the quality of food. We got some of the rolls and a stuffed avacado. The rolls are small and not very filling and the avacado had more fillers than actual tuna.... big dissapointment!!!! Wine was good but I think we will go somewhere else that we can have both!"

"I had the bacon wrapped pork with sweet mash potatoes and veggies. my date had the chicken with mash and veggies. Don't recall the exact type of veggies. Food was very flavorful, cooked correctly. The atmosphere was warm, dim lighting, good for dates with your lady. We even had a groupon that I thought was for 2 people but was for four people and they were able to accommodate me for the 2 person groupon, and still be able to use my original groupon. We will be back again."

"The food was Good. I would not come back or recommend because it took an hour and a half to get our food. I was there a month ago with my 5 yr old and it also took and hour and 15 minutes to get food. . There was also no more happy hour prices on wine. It was a week day and my table was celebrating a birthday. We got in at 7 and didn't get out until after 10pm. All of us to work the next day and had families to get home to."

"Once again an outstanding dining experience. The service was great, our server made a wine recommendation to complement our meal. Started with perfectly steamed pork dumplings, just enough to whet the appetite for more. For our entres enjoyed seared scallops and the grouper special which was floating on a pool of the most delicious ginger sauce - a wonderful accompaniment to the fish. Finished the me sharing scumptious desserts, chocolate bread pudding and my favorite, bananas foster. FMWC is one of our favorite dining places in the Orlando area - we'll be back soon."

"I decided to give the Funky Monkey at the downtown location a try, despite having a terrible experience at the Funky Monkey on I-drive. This time, I was pleasantly surprised. The food was great - we ordered a couple of sushi rolls and the teriyaki salmon entree to split. The service was MUCH better than at the other restaurant.. but it was still quite slow. A couple of the tables around us were complaining. We had a good waiter, so I'm not sure if the fault lies in the kitchen with turn over. However, if you have good company and don't mind waiting a little bit for your food to get there, Funky Monkey is a fun experience. The ambiance is great, it's certainly a romantic little spot, and was quite popular that night."

"We visited Funky Monkey on a busy Friday night, and were very pleased with the food and the service. Unfortunately, there was not quite enough staff working that night, so the service was slow. However, the management made sure that we were attended to, and even offered us a second round of drinks on the house to compensate us. We had a very enjoyable evening, and will visit there again."

"We dined here on Valentines Day and I try not to be negative so I am just going to say that Valentines Day meal specials are not for everyone. For a $44 per person menu I expected more than 3 choices per course. Lets not forget the Verdi sparkling Rose that cost $28...yep (I didn't have anything positive so I just said we'll take it). The Mushroom appetizer I had was GREAT and my lady seemed to like the fried goat Cheese. The Soup that my lady had was barely a ladle's worth and My Salad was ALL ARUGULA... barely anything else. The Entrees were a let down My lady had Salmon with what they called Potatoes Au Gratin (2 Slices). I had the short ribs which to me just didn't taste good (no knock on them)."

"The special Valentine's Day menu made selecting our dinner choices easy. However the salad seemed as though they'd simply taken a spring mix from a pre-bagged store bought mix and placed the greens in a bowl - a warm, plastic bowl at that. And although we were seated relatively on time for our 8:30 reservation, with plenty of others waiting for their later reservations, after we placed our orders for all of our courses, we were informed that 1 of the 2 dessert choices were no longer available. Poor planning on the restaurant's part."

"This is my first OpenTable review, but I must admit that Funky Monkey really blew away my expectations. From the outside, I would have never noticed the place, but the restaurant opens up nicely once inside. The food was very good, especially since it was a busy Valentine's night. The sushi appetizer I had was not the greatest I have ever had, but it was definitely above par and better than anything I have had in the Orlando area. The wine list is extensive and the interior was very intimate. Our server, although I do not remember his name, was outstanding and always made sure everything was perfect for us. I will definitely coming to this place regularly when I am in the area."

"Funky Monkey is our local haunt. The food is always excellent and the wine list complete and varied. Our favorites are the pork tenderloins, scallops and the vegetarian dish (which changes nightly). We always ask for a wine recommendation and have never been sorry.
They also make some excellent sushi.
On this evening, our service was slower than usual and strangely, they brought out our sushi with our entrees instead of as an appetizer, but the food was, as usual, excellent. The server suggested we should have told him that we wanted the sushi earlier. We waited for any food for at least half an hour. We appreciate not being rushed, but that was just dumb."
