Olana on 72 Madison Avenue (btwn 27 and 28) is a modern American restaurant with Italian influence using ingredients from the Hudson Valley and other local sources. Navigate through our 40 seat plush velvet lounge with crystal Victorian Chandelier and a 30 foot circular bar offering small plate fare and premium designer cocktails. In the main dining room experience the finest selection of the Chef Albert Di Meglio's cuisine surrounded by beautiful murals of the Hudson River Valley, 17’ foot ceilings, and cherry wood, leather paneled walls. "The food was excellent- the butternut squash soup one of the best I have had anywhere. The carrot cake was unusual and divine. The lunch options for Restaurant Week were generous- both in choices and quantity. Friendly, accommodating service in a quiet, relaxed atmosphere.
I highly recommend this restaurant and will definitely go back."

"I have been to Olana several times. As usual, the food on this visit was quite good. However, our lunch was interrupted several times with a blaring fire alarm and flashing light. I overheard the waiter telling other guests that this was routine testing. It is not at all good business practice to subject diners to a routine fire alarm drill at the height of lunchtime during Restaurant Week or any other time. If Olana must conduct these tests during business hours, they should do so at a time when few, if any, customers are present -- perhaps 3:00 or 4:00 p.m. (The noise rating I gave is wrong -- it was a mandatory rating to enter, and none of the choices were appropriate.)"

"This was my 6th or 7th dining experience at Olana. The restaurant is just lovely and the food is incredible. We've held birthday celebratiosns here, get-togethers with friends, staff holiday dinner, and industry dinner for 100 people. It is an elegant restaurant with a flair for the modern. Not to be missed. Highly recommended."

"We were a party of six. Three of us ordered the tacconi and those three plates were wiped clean! That was one of the best dishes I have ever eaten--tastier and more inventive than a similar lamb dish at Gotham. Others in our party heartily enjoyed their dinners, too--notably the gnocchi appetizer. Desserts were mundane, service was attentive, and generally a most pleasant evening with a minimum of background noise."

"Not a good experience. They had booked a huge party and should never have accepted additional reservations. They sat us directly across from the service station and then offered to turn our chairs around when we asked to moved our table? We ultimately cut our evening short, as the big party that was there dominated everything."

"I have been to Olana twice now. I want to like this restaurant more than I actually do. It is a beautiful space, with an exciting sounding menu. I find it difficult to choose, because everything sounds great. My app of mini meatballs was executed well, but was woefully under salted. Did no one taste this before it was served? Did the person who made it have a cold? It was a shame because it could have been a solid dish. My entree of tagliatelle was perfect- it saved the whole meal. My dessert of chocolate cake was downright awful. Who knew chocolate could be so tasteless? And the pistacio ice cream was icy. I had better from my freezer last night. Also, I inexplicably received my bread between my app and entree."

"Beautiful room and a wonderful menu. Service was a little spotty, perhaps because a large party (of lawyers or investment bankers) were commanding a large part of the space and the attention of the staff. We would definitely go again."

"I was recommended this restaurant and took advantage of restaurant week to try it out.
I was not overly impressed. In the end I ordered from the regular menu and that seemed to have caught the waiter off guard. Although the rest of the service staff were lovely our waiter was borderline hostile.
As far as the food, I was not impressed the salad I ordered which had poached pears and goat cheese ( nice idea) tasted as if it had sat in the fridge for a day and the goat cheese had no flavor. The milanese sandwich fared a little better. The cutlet was tasty and well prepared although the ratio of bread to meat could be adjusted."

"Went here for Restaurant Week, and tho the set menu was interesting, we opted for less courses using the main menu. Meatball appetizer (sounds blah, was not) was really really great. Smoked calamari appetizer also very nice. Chocolate pumpkin ravioli w/ duck ragout - so yummy, and it was like pasta and a main combined so very satisfying. Service was top notch - not stuffy, definitely friendly, and just spot on. Romantic - red velvet covered chairs, nice space between tables. Lovely find. : }"

"We really enjoyed our dining experience. The food was quite good and all four of us enjoyed our meals.

The only issue is that when we arrived at 6:30 there were no customers not even at the bar. By about 8pm a few tables were occupied; but still pretty much dead.

It would be a shame if this restaurant doesn't make it."

"EXCELLENT: We received a warm greeting upon arrival, and were immediately shown to our waiting table. The ambiance of the spacious dining room was very inviting, and conducive to quiet conversation, even though almost all tables were full. The wait staff was professional, and knowledgeable of the menu & wine list selections.

Our delicious meal was prepared perfectly, and had excellent presentation. Olana is a real find!"

"I enjoyed a lovely dinner with a friend at Olana. The food was excellent and my pear martini was yummy. They have a variety of bruschetta on the menu--I had the ricotta and mushroom--very tasty. The menu is eclectic--everyone will be able to find something they like."

"We hit a night a little earlier tha usual and caught a year end company holiday party. Combining their festivities with the background music made for an enjoyably noisy evening. Great food, even better service. Good wine. Bring good company and you'll be set for a very pleasant experience!"

"The food was very good, but service was very poor. As a result, I would not go back to this restauranat.

In addition, a "gratuity" of approximately 18% was added to the bill (for a party of 3?). If you are not paying attention, you might also add a tip as there is a space on the bill for the customer to insert a tip.

Not very happy with our experience."

"Food was excellent - creative, tasty, brought hot to the table. Oddly, the crespelle, of which people raved, was the least favored item.

Wine list much too abbreviated, though with some interesting choices. Nice to see some decently priced bottles.

Server was alternately attentive and nowhere to be found. When at the table, his level of enthusiasm was hyperkinetic and overdone.

The fabulously comfortable armchairs kept us at table talking for nearly 5 hours!"

"We were three for lunch and unanimously raved about our entrees: pasta, salad and chicken palliard. The desserts, including the cookie selection, were too good to pass up despite the calories. Service was courteous and respectful...not always a commonality in Manhattan restaurants. I hope to return soon."
