"I had arranged for a group of 8 for Mother's Day. The restaurant itself was nice and spacious. Service was slow and it wasn't extremely busy. I ordered a BLT and the bacon was barely cooked and had like two pieces. I sent it back with another server and received a new one from a different server. It was cooked this time, however, it was a big ole grease ball. Our actual server never apologised or asked me if everything was ok. 3 people in my party had the crab quiche and each said it was bland. The other 4 said that their meal was just ok. I will not be back."

"Went to LuLu's with a party of 6. The table was a bit small for the recommended family style. However the service was excellent so we were able to manage the limited table size. Eating family style allowed us to try a variety of things. The crab tart and polenta starters were amazing. Our favorites on the main dishes were the roasted duck, flat iron steak and salmon. We found the roasted chicken to be so, so and we were split on the roasted pork. On the other hand we were unanamous on the desserts. The croissant bread pudding and apple tart fabulous. The place is a bit loud but our table was un the back so conversation was fine. We would go back."

"LuLu is a reliable favorite of mine that I enjoy introducing to friends and colleges over the years. Always with friendly and professional service, good menu selections, an excellent wine list dining at LuLu is a joy. Nice enough for a special dinner out and casual enough for a drop-in bite to eat, it's a very comfortable place to dine."

"The evening started out badly when the valet parking-staff wouldn't let my companion pull into the open parking-space in front of the restaurant to let me off.
Our waitress was very friendly & helpful, and the staff kept the water glasses filled.
But when the busboy cleared the entrees, he did a very perfunctory job of wiping off the the table.

Lulu's serves a choice of 3 appetizers for $18 - a great idea. We shared the beet salad, tart, & pate - all wonderful! Order the bread-it's fantastic.
The roasted duck entree was a full half duck. The down-side: it was not carved (presumably how they could serve such a large serving).
For dessert we shared a very large & decadent bread pudding. It's clear why it's their most popular dessert!"

"LuLu is the perfect spot for pre-theatre dinner if you are attending a performance at Yerba Buena Center. Their pizzas are always consistently good as is the delicious chicken from the wood ovens. In fact all of their meats from the ovens are excellent - this time we had roast suckling pig! Good cocktails and great service. Can't go wrong."

"After being exiled to Sacramento for the past 13 years, this place made me feel like I was back in San Francisco. Despite SOMA's heating up for a number of years, there was still a bit of a neighborhoody feel, though this was not anything like everyday eating on my personal budget. A real plus is that the food was ample -- special but not the sort of "California Cuisine" that sometimes goes too far in rewarding the visual senses rather than satisfying gustatory desires.
I learned of the place -- though the location seemed almost familiar -- from a retired food journalist who lives in SOMA and still doesn't mind my calling her for tips. That's good, because I may well do it again."

"Let me start off with what was good. The chocolate chip croissant bread pudding was very good. It was left in the oven a bit too long but I like it crispy others may have found it burnt. Nothing else about LuLu was very good. The service was poor, the welcome when I entered the restaurant was cold so my experience was less than pleasurable."

"Have gone to this restaurant over the years and am sad to say that the food has gone downhill and the service is second rate. Table of 7 with 4 orders of the scented chicken at $22 each - each plate had 3 pieces of undercooked potatoes and chicken legs and if there were breasts on the plates there was no meat on them and they were pink / bloody. The two orders of gnocchi were dissappointing as they were fried and it wasn't specified on the menu. The only food that was actually good was the $18 margarita pizza. Bottle of wine that was ordered came back to the table wrong so waitress corrected, the martini that was ordered was wrong. At the end of we opted out of desert but manager wanted to give this to us for all of the bad meals."

"I needed to find a restaurant in walking distance of Moscone Center for an important business lunch. We started with a very respectable cheese plate. A couple of folks ordered the pizza, one with homemade sausage, the other with mushrooms. Both said they were delicious. I had an outstanding salmon dish, and our other diner the grilled chicken. The food was high quality, prepared to perfection and delicious. Clearly, a ton of investment in developing a fine menu, and not cutting corners on quality and flavor. The weird thing is--the place is in dire need of a scrub and a paint job. It looks like they haven't touched the walls since the late 80s. Kitchen is an 8.5, restaurant a 4 or 5."

"I'm very sorry to say that Lulu's today is not the LuLu's of 5 or more years ago. The portions were very small--and yet the menu still says to consider eating family style, which is very misleading, since the portions are small; the food prep seemed haphazard, especially the veggies and/or grains that came with each entre; and we felt rushed by our waitress, who was very polite but not at all engaged. Lulu's used to be a great standby for us to bring our family and larger groups; however, after this weekend, I will not return nor will I recommend. And I'm very sorry to say that."

"LuLu is a San Francisco SOMA neighborhood classic, and our experience there was exactly as I always remember them -- great food, cozy atmosphere, and fantastic service. The family style served entrées were delicious and we had a hard time picking two desserts to share amongst our party. We'll be back."

"went there to escape food provided at the conference I was attending with some colleagues and clients. Enjoyable atmosphere, especially with the scent of the open oven and kitchen permeating the air. Food was good, the truffle Parmesan cheese fries were a wonderful and innovative "side". Service, despite the packed lunchtime "buzz" was efficient, courteous and well-executed. For me, it made the perfect location for a short term escape from my conference!"

"A classic place, still producing great fare, I love the menu here for its variety, with great pastas and pizzas and excellent appetizers and small plates. Didn't try any of the roast dishes this time, but they looked as good as usual. Great dessert menu, too. We truly enjoyed everything we ate. Drinks were excellent, too, the bar had no problem changing my cocktail to accommodate my request."

"I went with my family who has three small children. We've been a couple of times and have always been happy with our meal. This time was prime rib night and three people ordered it and really enjoyed it. I had sturgeon from Sacramento which was one of their specials and it was really delicous served with celeriac root and done in the pizza oven. We had a great Saint Emilion with our meal."

"We really enjoyed Lulu. Beautiful restaurant space, great friendly service, almost perfect food. In other reviews people talk about tables too close together, spotty service, overpriced. NOT TRUE. Well, maybe the prawns appetizer or small plate was a few bucks high. Entrees and drinks are comparable to every other restaurant. Drinks were good size at $9.00. Louisiana Prawns were a bit soft for our liking but were delicious and the aoili sauce was among the best we've had anywhere. My wife had sausage pizza - outstanding taste, wasn't as thin crusted or crispy as we expected though. Big - most of it home. Rosemary Chicken was perfect. I loved the Bread Pudding, my wife said it was a little too crunchy. We suggest you have a wine flight."
