Located on beautiful Lake Kittamqundi in the heart of downtown Columbia, Clyde's has been serving lunch and dinner daily, and Sunday brunch, since 1975. With a seasonal American cuisine menu, diners can enjoy Wild Alaska Salmon in season, Jumbo Lump Crab Cakes, Filet Mignon, or a delicious Bacon Cheeseburger. Sunday brunch features favorites like French Toast, Eggs Maryland and Steak and Eggs. Serving a late-night menu, Clyde's is the place to go after a movie or a concert at nearby Merriweather Post. The Tomato Palace, our delightful Italian restaurant right next door, serves homemade pastas, wood-fired oven pizza, and a variety of salads, sandwiches and Italian entrees.
We do not accept reservations for outside dining.
"I have been going to Clyde's Restaurant in Columbia since my youth. They have just remodeled and it's lovely!! Beautiful. I went on Mother's Day for Sunday brunch. I ordered the "Bennie Florentine", eggs benedict with spinach~ heaven. It was fresh- simply spectacular!! My husband ordered the Chesapeake version, eggs benedict with crab cakes- another awesome choice. What a fabulous experience. We've decided to make it a tradition from this point on....Mother's Day at Clyde's in Columbia. I had also requested in the * special note* portion on Open Table for a table by the window. We were even 15 mins late for our reservation due to a minor home emergency and we still got our table by the window. Highly recommend!!!!"

"I was not impressed at all with Clyde's. I was anxious to try after their renovation (the noise level before kept me out of there). While it is very pretty inside, doesn't smell anymore (thank God), and the noise level was perfect, the service was very poor. We had 10:15 reservations on Mother's Day. The place was not busy when we got there - we were seated right away (yea). The server came up asked for our drink order and then must have left town! We sat there for more than 10 minutes without even getting water. The manager happen to walk by and asked if someone had come to see us yet, we told him, he rushed to get us water, and took our order for us. Food wasn't that good. I have more to say, but running out of room."

"Not because it was busy Not because it was prime time -it was 8:15 in the evening - it was because of the LOUSY service!!!! TERRIBLE -.would never go back! The waiter and the other server kept saying sorry for the wait! What was the hold up? We did not enjoy our dining experience at all. We were seated next to a server that had a door that the servers would open and close all night and the door banged each time they closed it ! Not pleasant At all. When we told the waiter it kept waking up the baby he just smiled and said nothing.....we don't believe he heard us but pretended he did but didn't ask for clarification. We finally moved the baby to the other side of the booth and that helped a little bit not to startle her out of a sound sleep!"

"it took almost an hour for our food to arrive. I was also disappointed that the server didn't come say anything about the long wait until almost 45 minutes after placing our order, when I had to ask for bread because we'd just been sitting there with drinks. If he had come to say something, with a place of bread in hand, that would have been a bit better. Every dessert has cream and gluten in it. People now deal with food allergies and dietary restrictions. Have a dairy free or vegan option, and maybe a gluten free option."

"The view of the lake was pretty. My martini was excellent. Unfortunately, they still have too many tables crammed into too small a space. That has not changed. I do not care to listen to the person at the table sitting next to me their entire conversation for the evening. The closeness also forced our service to put his backside almost up against my shoulder when he delivered something to that side of their table. Awkward! The clams appetizer on the spot, perfect. My Halibut with the asparagus salad on top was wonderful. Our waiter was friendly and stayed on top of things. My husband didn't feel his draft beer was worth $8. Overall, the food is excellent and the service very good, but we don't care for the noise and lack of any privacy."

"Prices seem to have increased significantly since remodeling was completed. The restaurant looks nice after remodeling. But..... Bread is an option that must be requested according to wait staff. Most of the wait staff is inexperienced and brought us the wrong entree. The manager confirmed that you must now request bread, and he did apologize for the mix-up on the entree. The food tasted ok, but not anything special. No longer a good value for the money."

"The new Clyde's is a must do for most people who live in this area as it has always been a go to place for lunch and dinner. The new layout does provide better space and a better and non-cramped dining experience. But the food is why we go to a certain restaurant. i do know I will never get the liver again. it was uneatable. Solid fat and mush. However, the other two people in our party did enjoy the halibut and steak. Tim, our server, was phenomenal. A true pro and did a Class A job. I was personally really, really looking forward too the trip to the New Clyde's, but now am suspect of the overall food quality."

"There were five in our group. Three ordered the halibut special, one ordered the scallops and I ordered the crab cake sandwich. The fish and scallops were very good, however everyone commented on the small portion sizes for the main entrees and said they were still hungry when they finished. We actually ordered two deserts which we rarely do. That part was very disappointing to not feel full after eating. That will make us hesitate to come back in the future, or just be prepared to order a sandwich. My crab cake sandwich and fries were good, and they did fill me up."

"Just reopened, and wait staff a little shaky. I had a speck in my water glass, asked for a new one - it never came. Took our knives before the entrees arrived, never replaced them. Long wait to order. Plus they've gone down the road of so many restaurants - menu descriptions list many ingredients and there's only a small amount of food on plate. 5 small scallops and six pieces, not stalks, of asparagus were on my plate, with four mini dumplings (less than the size of a quarter) as the "starch". I like Clydes, glad they're reopened, but will stick to burgers and salads if this is where the entrees are going. Plus, where's the mussels - they were one of the best things on the "old" menu?"

"When we were seated at our table we were not approached (even by a buss person with water) for a good 5 minutes. The waiter was friendly and answered all our questions but the time dragged between ordering drinks, receiving them, ordering food, and receiving it, etc. The food was very good! My cousin and dining partner was shocked that there was no white zinfandel on the bar menu; or any sweeter wine like rose or Riesling. After much discussion the waiter finally pulled a glass of white zin out of his sleeve... I have been to Clyde's 3 times and every time the service has been quite slow."

"May be the worst dining experience I've ever had. 30 minutes late being seated for our reservation; 45 minutes after ordering we still didn't have our appetizer; ordered drinks arrived warm (beer, wine & soda) appetizer showed up after main course; main courses were tasteless; when left over sandwich (asked to be taken home) waiter mistakenly threw away and confessed to it after we asked for it twice after bill showed up. After two managers promised they'd cover appetizer, it was on the bill. As we walked out the waiter followed us to keep saying "it wasn't his fault, it was the bar & kitchen that screwed everything up" Diners: Stay away from this place! They have SERIOUS service, management and staff issues."

"We have eaten at Clyde's many times but this is the first time since they remodeled. The food was great as usual but the service was terrible - it took a long time to place our order and get our food. My husband never got his food - everyone else had finished eating and so we got his food to go. We had a four year old eating with us so timing is somewhat critical. Unfortunately this is one of our favorite restaurants and it may be a while before we go back."

"We are sorry to report that the newly revamped Clyde's of Columbia is NOT a restaurant we would recommend. The tables are crammed so closely together that the environment is uncomfortable. An adult cannot fit between the tables to reach the bench seats without turning sideways. We had customers bump into our table on both the left and the right as they were trying to reach their seats. The chairs on the aisles continually get bumped by waiters and customers walking by because the aisles are so narrow. It was impossible to conduct a private conversation at the table and forget having a romantic conversation there! It is difficult to give an account of either the menu or the service because all we will remember is the cramped environment."

"Service was great but the food was awful. For example, the chicken and waffle was nothing more than a waffle with two pieces of chicken fingers (and oddly - powdered sugar on the plate). We're used to chicken and waffle from Ms. Shirley's and other places where there's a little more touch to it than that. The chicken was fried too long so it was tough - overall, the dish was overpriced. Shrimp and grit was a disappointment, as well. It was nothing more than a sauce that looked like Ragu straight out of a bottle with some shrimp and grit on top of it. I could have made it better at home."

"Worst service I have ever had in a restaurant. Seated 45 minutes after our reservation time, our table was pushed up against the back of another diner, 2 couples got up and walked out due to never being greeted by their server after sitting down, food took forever to arrive.
The new menu is awful, it feels dumbed down, like something I could get at a chain restaurant. Tacos, Crab cake, sandwiches, and a steak. Very un-impressive, and a huge disappointment from what this restaurant used to be."

"This was our first visit since they remodeled. I wish we hadn't hit them on prom night because I would have really liked to try out one of the new booths. As it was we had to wait 20 minutes to be seated for our 6 p.m. reservation. Their Tito's cosmo was delicious and my husband was able to find some drafts he liked thanks to the addition of craft beers over the past few years but he still prefers Victoria Gastro Pub for the beer selection, while I prefer Clyde's for their food selection. We both got the delicious Alaskan halibut and I had to top off my meal with Clyde's fantastic signature Spanish Coffee - the main thing I'll miss when we move next year. :-)"

"I was shocked at how terrible our experience was. We were hoping for a lovely meal to catch up with our friends that we do not see often. There is no separation between the bar and the dining room. We were seated at a table that was right next to the bar. The noise level made it impossible to hear each other. My ears were ringing by the end of the evening. It took 40 minutes to get bread (which was not very good). The waiter would disappear with our glasses to refill iced tea and forget to return. The most surprising was my friend ordered the $22 salmon. Her plate came with a tiny piece of salmon and a tiny bit of vegetables. My $17 salmon salad had a bigger piece of salmon and a lovely salad. Dessert was mediocre."

"We had a reservation for 0745. Had to wait 25 minutes to be seated at a cramped table for two. Our table was up against a wall on one side and inches from the table for four on our other side. Waited for another ten minutes before a waiter arrived. I asked him if he could recommend an IPA (India Pale Ale) on tap. He returned with a dark beer. It just wasn't what I wanted. I explained that I had asked for an IPA not an Imperial Red Ale. He apologized and said that he would take care of that.. He returned with a good tasting IPA. My wife and I did enjoy our meal. I had a second IPA while my wife had a dessert. When the bill came the first beer was on the bill. I was very unhappy."

"We had been there several times before, months before the renovation... We really enjoyed the food, the atmosphere and the service. Upscale, but not pretentious. We had dinner there last Saturday evening. We got there about 5-min prior to our reservation, and they said it would be about 15 - 20min. OK... We went to the bar for a drink waiting for our table. They seated us at the bar-side table. Noisy, but OK... We ordered some wine and food. I asked the waiter if the chicken was a generous portion and he said a chicken breast. When my salad came, it had three skewers of chicken morsels. Not a chicken breast ! I had to order an appetizer ! Food was OK... Not like we remembered. Would like to give Clydes another chance..."

"Since the reopening of Clydes of Columbia I was not overly impressed with the dining experience. Friday morning we made a reservation for 7:15 p.m. that evening and the entrance way was extremely crowded for the mass amounts of people in the restaurant. There was no where to stand without being in someone's way. The menu was very disappointing, whiile they had some of Clyde's favorites, they had some other items that were new. Being gluten intolerant there wasn't much that I could eat. There day boat scallops while good just wasn't enough and the vegetables that were available with this dish I felt were cold. Overall I was very disappointed with the experience. Prior to your renovations I really enjoyed coming to Clydes but not now."

"For spending $13M, the renovations are beautiful and the view is stunning of the lake. But not impressed at all with their new menu. Although the restaurant just re-opened, they were very unorganized which explains why are food was served an hour later. Service was poor. Not at all like the old Clydes - laid back and casual. If we go back it will be only for sandwiches. Their entrees leave little to be desired for my palate."

"great bar area. good service. basic but interesting menu of a type you'd expect to find in a restaurant that has a decent bar , that is, not just salads & sandwiches & burgers, bur crab cakes and bison burgers too. We sat at a table near the bar. Did not check the wine list - we had cocktails & beer in the mid -afternoon. Attentive staff. I think the drinks were a little pricey, but maybe we need to go during happy hour?"

"I have been to several other Clyde's restaurants before, and the one in Columbia, MD was by far the worst. I was shocked at food we were served. The food was mediocre, at best. One of the specials for brunch was a broccoli and cheddar soup, which I ordered. The soup was extremely watery, with a few pieces of cheese and broccoli floating in the broth-like liquid. The quiche I ordered was extremely dry, and not very flavorful. Our waiter was very nice and helpful but overall, the food was a disappointing experience."
