"The Undercurrent is without a doubt one of if not the best dining spots in Greater Greensboro. From being greeted at the door by Ben, Claude or any of the excellent staff to the end of a fine meal a better experience as this is rare thing for sure. I will suggest to others that they check out the Undercurrent. I know that it will be no embarrassment to me for they will surely have a fine meal and will happily return."

"We attended the Truchard Wine dinner. It was a four course dinner extremely well prepared and well paired with four wines. The food was outstanding and matched well with the courses. Natali Meetz did an over the top job of speaking on the wines. The experienced service staff left nothing to be desired while taking care of us in in the exquisite private dining room. The restaurant offered very good prices on the wines for us to purchase for our own cellar. My husband and I enjoyed being able to sit with other couples at a lovely round table conducive to good conversation-Ms. Meetz was seated at our table so we were able to pepper her with questions regarding the 4 other wines she brought in for us to sample as well. Big compliments!"

"Frites with truffle oil, duck confit salad, beet and ginger soup, crab cake followed by half chicken with outstanding green peas, fried oysters, sea bass and shrimp with pasta and tasso - all very good on a busy Saturday evening. Great to see a bustling restaurant. Great service as always from Klaude and his team."

"We have eaten at undercurrent before, and always have loved the atmosphere. It is very romantic. Dimly lit, but still have the big windows with the view of downtown. This time when we ate here for Valentines day, we were sat in the back room, which is normally reserved for banquets. There were only high windows that had curtains over them, and it was cold which made for a very uncomfortable evening. The service was slow and I was very dissappointed overall. I guess for future reference ask for the main dining room. This never crossed my mind because it is always closed. We made these reservations almost a month in advance, and again I was dissappointed for being sat in the back room."

"Our dining experience was overall good. Although our service was efficient, the server was rather abrupt and not at all kind. She left us feeling unwelcomed. The food was excellent but we were very surprised that when we ordered the special (strip steak) we were told they only had one steak left and one of us would have to change our order. We found that odd that they would run out of a special and we had an early reservation! We had a good time and will possibly return. It's pricey and we can't decide if the money was worth the experience."

"I was disappointed by the lack of originality of the menu selections at Undercurrent. For example, one of the dishes was chicken, peas, and mashed potato and that was not the only example of lack of originality. The service was very good. The ambiance was pleasant, but not outstanding."

"My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed the dining experience at Undercurrent. Prices were a little steep, but the portions of food were filling. The dessert, especially, was decadent. I definitely recommend the Dark Chocolate Ganache with Espresso Mousse for dessert. All food was very artistically arranged, as well. I was unable to partake in any of the fine wines, since I am 38 weeks pregnant, but the wine menu was quite extensive. The ambiance was great for a romantic evening. Will definitely return for another special occasion."

"What a pleasure when the familiar becomes memorable. Calamari can be cliched and boring. On this night, Chef Harkenrader delivered perfectly prepared, pillow soft, slightly sweet wonderful calamari that only outshone by fried oysters that nearly redefined the concept. Ciopini was wonderful as well and the too often overlooked Ashley Farms chicken breast ended my meal with perfect comfort food. And, that includes mac and cheese tucked under that chicken breast.

And, Klaude and his team made the evening warm and inviting.

It was another great night at one of our favorites."

"I hadn't been to the Undercurrent for some time, but I happy to say that restaurant lived up to my memories. It seems that not many places can do that anymore. The food was outstanding and the service was even better. Even though we travelled from Charlotte, we are already making plans for next visit.

PS: We were pleasantly surprised that we received a gift certificate from the Undercurrent
for booking on line! ( I am not sure, but it might be just a short term promotion? )"

"We attended the Rodney Strong wine-tasting dinner in January and, as always, the food preparation was excellent. We enoyed the pairing of Rodney Strong wines with Chef Michael's dishes. These events are a great way to try new wines and to purchase wines that may not be available in retail outlets. And the new website is much-improved!"

"I travel all over the country on business, and I always try and eat at least one night in a local favorite restaurant. I was overwhelmed by the Undercurrent! My meal (Veal chop w/collards and potatoes) was perhaps the best meal I have eaten anywhere. Everything was cooked to perfection, and the flavor was outstanding! Dessert was decadent (chocolate ganache/mousse)! Will always make this a priority when in Greensboro!!"

"Great fun. We took a 90+ year-old friend and Undercurrent gave him royal treatment - met at the door, served a cheeseburger just like he wanted it and the best frites" he's had in this country. Our lunches were superb as well, especially a trout special with black eyed peas and collards."

"An interesting menu, but perhaps too ambitious, given that the execution lagged far behind. The duck breast, for instance, was way too salty. The gnocchi accompanying the lamb was very tough, but the smoked pearl onions were perfect. The lobster and shrimp spring roll was dry, bland, and overpriced.

The ambiance was excellent.

The service was very good, but because there was only one other table of customers in the whole restaurant (for a grand total of 4 adults and 3 children), there's no way we can judge how the service would be when they are busy."

"Undercurrent stayed open even during a snow storm that closed most of downtown, which means they kept our reservations. The service was good but the food was great, I had the quail with a bacon demi-glaze awesome, and my wife had the lamb chops which just melted in her mouth. We both had starter courses a poached shrimp with greens, really tasty, and greens with goat cheese, great. The hostess was really nice, and when we got our coats to leave the owner/manager saw us off and was nice and wanted to know how we like the food and told us to be careful in the ice and snow. The food and experience was really nice, we will definitely be back."

"Service was fantastic, prompt, and available when needed. Food had great flavors that meshed well together. This restaurant seems to know how to please even when busy. High marks across the board.
One problem-one web site notes that they are not open on Monday evenings which is incorrect, they are open on Monday evenings. Can't wait to get back to town and enjoy Undercurrent again."

"Not a good night for the folks at Undercurrent. We have been several times before and prior evenings were superb. Service was a bit unattentive, perhaps due to the restaurant being a bit short-staffed on the Saturday after Thanksgiving. It was not crowded, patron-wise.

A flounder entree was served undercooked and the fish may have even been somewhat old. Waiter never asked how the food was, but when he took my plate away after the meal, he came back to ask if the fish was "not fully cooked". Maitre d' also apologized, but no offer was made to comp the meal or even offer a discount. We were offered a free desert and a specialty martini was brought to our table, even though we did not request this.

Will certainly go back, however."

"Undercurrent added to it's attraction this night by featuring a book signing by Jo Maeder, author of When I Married My Mother, in the bar. She is delightful, the book is well worthwhile and the dinner that followed was delicious as always.

Chef Harkenrader's duck confit and Berkshire pork preparations are outstanding.

Klaude and his wait staff team completed a great evening for us."
