Undercurrent Restaurant
Owners, Susan and Chef Ben Roberts invite you to enjoy our Contemporary American Cuisine where we utilize Classical French cooking techniques with global influences. With our 150 bottle wine list with 50 wines by the glass, Undercurrent has been recognized multiple years by both Wine Spectator and Wine Enthusiast. We have been rated consistently tops in our class of restaurants. The ambiance is truly one of the nicest in the area with big tables, nice chairs, and ample space for you while dining. We now have a truly fabulous patio area. We seat our patio on a "first come first served basis". Please comment in your reservation notes that you would prefer the patio if available and we'll do our best to accommodate, but it is best to come in early. A comfortable bar is available to begin your dining experience or to visit after you dine. Please join us and let the capable staff at Undercurrent make your lunch or dinner a wonderful experience.

"I took my husband here for his birthday, before I took him to his surprise birthday party. The timing had to be just right, so I knew our service couldn't take forever. We didn't feel rushed at all, but they timed it all perfectly and my husband never suspected a thing. The staff were very attentive, the wine was wonderful and the food was out of this world. I am a vegetarian and there weren't many options for me, but it didn't matter because what I had was perfect."

"We went to Undercurrent for the first time, as part of a group of friends who all eat meat. I was concerned that we'd have to confine our dinner options to selections from the soup and salad part of the menu. Then I noticed a comment on the menu, "vegetarian options available upon request", and when I asked the waitron, she readily suggested a couple of the meat-y entrees that could be converted into vegetarian versions. She quickly checked with the chefs and came back in seconds with a description of a delicious alternative entree. The taste matched the description! The service, lighting, and overall ambience were also excellent.We will definitely return."

"Quiet weeknight. Restaurant close to baseball park and other downtown attractions. Attractive open dining room well maintained and a very attentive,knowlegable server who offered great suggestions.
Menu was varied and our party of four enjoyed small plates , salads, excellent entrees and we were all pleased. Salmon and Bison preparations were superb. Wine list good and the bar is very attractive.

"We dined on a particularly busy Furniture Market weekend, and were fortunate that we made reservations early. While our server was very unattentive and visibly annoyed with us, the rest of the staff was great. The dining room and bar are beautiful and inviting. We particularly enjoyed our appetizers,but our entrees fell short. Our server would not help us, but another server was very pleasant and helpful and saved our dining experience. The manager also offered apologies and was kind. We look forward to trying the Undercurrent again in the future and hope to have the experience that we know this restaurant can provide"

"I recently moved here from NYC, and tried Undercurrent for brunch. We started the bloody marys with which the waiter brought out freshly ground horseradish and sriracha, because we told him we like them extra spicy. We had several appetizers and entrees, which were all delicious and perfectly cooked. The waiter was very knowledgeable on the preparation and ingredients of each dish and was very attentive. The atmosphere was very nice without being too much for the size of the city. I will definitely add this to our list of regular spots here, and it seems like a great place to take friends/family who come to visit. I am very happy to have found a new restaurant that meets the standards to which I'm accustomed."

"We have always loved this restaurant, but last night they outdid themselves! There were new additions to the menu, and they were awesome. The veal breast appetizer was worthy of any big city "go-to" eatery. A description wouldn't do it justice. The butternut squash soup shone with the addition of small cubes of sweet apple and smokey olive oil. We had bison flank steak and pork tenderloin, both excellent choices. The Friday night "no corkage fee" is a part of what brings us there, too. We were there when they were having a wine dinner (also a treat you should try!), but our service did not suffer, food came out In a timely manner and at the proper temperature. Highly recommended!"

"Undercurrent was very busy. We had reservations so we were seated immediately. It was my husband's birthday and his flight was delayed and delayed. I phoned the restaurant to say we would be late. They were very accommodating and said not to worry. The food was excellent. Plates were warmed to the food stayed warm during the meal. Service was attentive without being intrusive. "For the last several years we have gone to the Undercurrent to celebrate Valentine's Day (the day after Valentine's Day). The ambiance still leads us to dress well and put on our best manners. It's nice to know that others are doing the same. The food is always delicious and even though we don't "need" dessert, we order the bread pudding. It is absolutely fabulous!"

"We always love eating at the Undercurrent. I have never been anything but amazed at how tasty the food is. The ambiance is lovely and it is always a pleasure. The only negative I could say about it, though, is the service is rather slow no matter when we go (lunch or dinner) and no matter who our server is. Not that we are ever in a hurry, but very often it can take 15 minutes to even get our water glasses filled when we first sit down. Despite that, it's still our favorite restaurant ever."

"My boyfriend and I went to Undercurrent for Valentine's Day. The food was absolutely delicious, the service was very attentive and polite, and the price was very reasonable. The only negative thing I have to say is that I didn't like the atmosphere. The tables were all very close together and we were looking for something a little more romantic and private. Like maybe a dark little booth to ourselves. It's still a great place to eat and enjoy a few glasses of wine but if you're looking for something romantic I'd look elsewhere."

"As wonderful as Chef Harkenreader's new creations are, it's both comforting and rewarding to have old favorites - especially at lunch. On this visit, we enjoyed a now traditional fried oyster salad and Undercurrent's version of barbeque - pulled pork with tobacco onions on a potato bread roll.
Timothy and Allison's warm professional service made the experience even more enjoyable.
Undercurrent's breads probably don't get enough attention. TAlways hearty but not overwhelming. The old description of bread as the staff of life fits."

"We had a wonderful experience at the Undercurrent. The food was as beautiful as it was tasteful to the palate and everyone had a nice experience. I have several food allergies and the wait staff and the chef were more than accomodating to my needs and that means a lot. They were well prepared before I arrived with my family of choices and entrees they could alter.....wonderful! It was my Mothers birthday and they even put a candle on her dessert and helped us take pictures...what a great night!"
