After years of searching far and wide for a location to open the follow-up restaurant to the highly successful Gibsons Bar & Steakhouse, owners Hugo Ralli and Steve Lombardo found what they were looking for right under their noses. In February of 1997 they launched the seafood companion to the Chicago legend they had created with Gibsons and named it Hugo's Frog Bar & Fish House. The restaurant is dedicated to the same principles as its predecessor, unbelievable portions, value and quality coupled with memorable service.

"We celebrated Fatehrs Day and my sons college graduation for University of Chicago - The hostess was extremely friendly and helpful as she guared a large gift fo rmy son until the end of lunch. Sean our server was friendly welcoming and excellant. His support team was alos very attentive. Sean suggested the 5 layer Devils food cake which was huge and a great hit at the table.
Hugo's helped make it a FANTASTIC Fathers Day!"

"The piscine companion to Gibson's is a solid establishment. Seafood choices were varied. Frog legs of course are their specialty. (Unless starving order the appetizer version). As is the case for most popular Chicago establishments the portions are huge. Considering that we visited on Father's Day the joint was jumping, but the service was excellent. Noise level was tolerable once a tired toddler departed. We'll be back. Recommended."

"This was my wife and my second trip to Chicago in 3 years. First trip we were advised to go to Hugo's.. Frank was our waiter and it was so good we made reservations in advance to go back... 2nd time our waiter was Jeremy... another outstanding perormance ... service and food. "I have been here before and found it to be above average but last night the sword fish was tasteless and the mashed potatoes seemed from a box. The server saw I was not eating the fish and offered to change it. I appreciate that. The dessert was a Black Forest cake that was 'plenty big' but uneven in taste. The ice cream, filling and whipped cream were good but the cake itself was dry. I'll go back again just to make sure it was only an off night."

"Before arriving at this restaurant, a friend told me I could order a Gibson's steak from Hugo's. At Hugo's, the crabcake was, by far, one of the best I've ever eaten and the salmon and sea bass were also excellent. Unfortunately, I ordered a New York strip steak medium well and it came out charred with no hint of pink so I have to confess I was a little disappointed. I should have followed my first mind and ordered the filet mingon but I was following my waiter's lead who convinced me that the New York strip would be best oscar style. For my soup, I ordered the gumbo and it was just okay. Overall, I thought it was a good restaurant and I would go there again to sit at the bar, order the crabcakes and a drink."

"For the price we paid, I was expecting everything to be great. I will tell you, that the Miso Seabass was out of this world and definitely the best thing we ate on the menu. The copper river king salmon also melted in your mouth, but for $50, not sure I would get it again. The grouper was terrible, overcooked and under seasoned. For appetizers, the spicy tuna tartar was amazing and the crab ceviche was pretty good. We also tried the frog legs and they were surprisingly good. Also get the clam chowder, it was top notch. For dessert we had the crembrule (not sure on spelling) and it was very good."

"Appetizer: Oyster on the half shell, excellent. House salad, really iceberg lettuce! I think for 9 dollars you could use better lettuce. Stuffed Lobster, to die for, fantastic! Screaming child at the table next to ours. After a good half hour of high decimal screaming and two parents who sat there and ignored the poor thing, you would think that management would inform the hapless parents that the poor, obviously way overtired 3 year old, was disturbing every other dinner in the restaurant. But no, instead another diner walked up to the parents and asked them to take the child out side."

"This restaurant is pricey but worth it! I had the salmon and my husband had the walleye for dinner. We both loved our meals and portion sizes are healthy, so we enjoyed the leftovers the next day too. All dinners come with soup or salad. We tried the clam chowder and the lobster bisque and both were delicious. Side dishes are served family style. I recommend the double baked potato for a side dish. If your still hungry-make sure you try the strawberry shortcake--but be warned-the portion size is huge!"

"My sister and I went to Hugo's again before going to a play. Service is friendly and attentive. Portions are HUGE so share. We shared the wedge salad with tomatoes, bacon, and blue cheese. Good that we stuck with appetizers and side of asparagus for the entrees. The crab cake is my favorite--really crabby and again big. Nice to get such fresh fish/shellfish in Chicago."

"We were seated on time. Although the room was crowded we had plenty of room at or table. Waiters were knowledgable and answered questions readily. "A top location with a very friendly staff as you enter as well as in the bar and the dining room. The bar was noisy but friendly. The dining room felt very spacious and not loud..... a classy experience. We actually carried a conversation without screaming. Our waiter was very helpful and the menu choices were great. We must come back to try a few more dishes and desserts. The desserts are super sized and can feed the entire table and even more. Great job! We will be back."

"I went with my foodie friend and we had practically no complaints. The service was excellent and the food was great. I had a steak and cake, the steak was prepared well, nothing particularly noteworthy, but still a good steak. The crab cake on the other hand was one of the best I've had. My friend got a lobster roll which she enjoyed as well. We also tried the frog legs! They were a great experience to try once, although we didn't particularly care for them. Our one minor complaint was the soda, they serve them in the glass bottles, which is charming, but they are small and expensive. They charge for each bottle, be warned. Overall a great experience that I would highly recommend to anyone looking for seafood in Chicago."

"We had originally tried to book Gibson's but it was full so chose the neighboring restaurant Hugo's. I'm glad we did. We sat in a lovely booth in the back room which was a quieter than the front of the restaurant. The service was impeccable. Water glass was always filled, menu was explained, food tasted great and came fast. Steak was fantastic. The steak came with a soup or salad but no sides which had to be ordered separately. Sides were large though and could serve more than one person. We had the "Meaning of life" cake and we were warned it was huge and it was the biggest "piece"of cake I've ever seen. We took the uneaten portion home as a carryon on the plane and we're still enjoying it 2 days later. Expensive but worth it."
