Bringing to mind the authentic taquerias of the legendary marketplaces of Mexico, Chef Donna Willey brings you Canonita. This casual and exciting Mexican dining experience features an authentic, rustic menu of "Mexico-City Soul Food" with delectable tacos, ceviches and mouth watering barbacoa made with savory fire-roasted meats, grilled vegetables and the freshest seafood. Hand-made tortillas, refreshing salsas and fresh-juice Star Margaritas provide guests with an unforgettable "true taste of Mexico." The bustling open-air kitchen adds to the home-style warmth and energy of Canonita as do the patio festoon lighting and umbrellas with lively Salsa and Tejano music. Behind the bar many imported cervezas are featured alongside old-world Sangria and many premium Mexican tequilas, perfect for relaxed sipping.
"I picked this restaurant to celebrate my birthday while in Vegas. Our waiter Jesus was OUTSTANDING. We had a mixed group of Spanish speaking people and we had so much fun with him. Service was great. And the food was just as good!!"

"Worst service that I've had in years! After 20 minutes of sitting at our table, we had to ask someone to send someone to our table, so that we could even ask for water. My guest really wanted to try the restaurant; otherwise, I would have walked out frustrated with the lack of service."

"Food was average, nothing spectacular but not horrible. The prices were expensive for Mexican but not totally absurd for the strip. W sat next to the canal which as great. The service on the other hand horrid. Our server never gave us appetizer plates, or water. She never checked on us throughout our entire meal. If the service would of been better I'd probably would give it a better review."

"We arrive and were told we were early and that we'd be called when our table was ready. 15 mins after our reservation time I checked on our status and was told our table was being cleared. 5 mins after that I was told they were waiting for our table to pay and leave. They eventually set up a table for us in the entranceway (I believe they forgot about us). After that things did turn around. The hostess was very apologetic and brought chips & salsa to the table immediately. The food really was wonderful. Authentic, tasty and well worth the wait. We were pleasantly surprised by the quality of food, especially given the reasonable price! We wished for a better table/view but otherwise it was a great meal."

"Our food was decent. Margaritas were way too sweet and food all seemed a bit heavy, but it was tasty. The environment is set in the canals of the Venetian, with a noon-time sky painted above, it's a little odd when you are enjoying an evening meal."

"The service was poor and one member of our party of six did not get his entree until 20-30 minutes after the rest of the party. The manager made it up to him by not charging for it. Our drinks were slow to come as were refills on the chips and salsa, for which they charged. We wondered if the automatic 18% tip added to the bill was the reason for the poor service. We had a great table over looking the canal. The food was very good."

"Canonita is perfectly positioned overlooking the canal at Venetian. Their food and drinks are a few steps up from your typical full service Mexican restaurant. My entire party enjoyed the atmosphere, food, and service."

"Fantastic food (I had the Barbacoa) - Service was fast, friendly and the ambiance is great (Palazzo shops right at the end of the Gondola canal). Definitely would come again."

"Great food and fabulous margaritas! Service was slow and unattentive but the company made up for it! Seems like with as many people they had to serve, they couldn't keep up with it. But overall great scene next to gondolas and I keep going back for the food and drinks every Vegas trip!"

"My husband and I used Open Table to find this little gem of a Restaurant. Our original plans for the evening were to attend a show. Sadly we had to leave the show due to it not being what we had thought it would be. Our evening turned out to be amazing! The food is fresh and full of flavor. The service is excellent! The location of the restaurant is perfect. We enjoyed watching the gondolas as the passed by our table and of course listening to the romantic music. We will most definitely return!"

"Great margarita's. Must get the guacomole, it is fresh and appropriately spiced. The kitchen was low on brining corn bread but they more than made up for it by providing a tamale, and free desert. They know how to take care of thier customers."

"Went for a fun lunch. Even with a reservation (requesting a view) we were squeezed between 2 other tables at a table so small two entree plates, two bread plates, chips, and salsa did not fit on it. And the view was of a pillar not of the canal. The server had 2 other 2-top tables and he made us feel he was too busy for us. After requesting drink refills and another glass of wine, twice, he still never showed up with them. The cheese dip was too hard to dip the chips into. The salsa(red & green) was excellent! We each ordered tacos and the rice was very good but that and the black beans were cold. The tacos had great flavor but not much meat in them. Took 15 to check out."

"Loved this place! Amazing, flavor filled food, best restaurant view at the Venetian! We sat right next to the "canal" and could hear the gondoliers singing. They all sounded amazing, and it definitely added to the experience! Would definitely recommend this place! The server was amazing although the hostesses were definitely not very friendly. Amazing food with great flavors... Amazing drinks,.. Can't go wrong eating here!"

"Good food, not far off from being a Mexico City soul food joint but in our case - a very mediocre and disinterested service. Maybe our server was having a bad day, but he looked utterly indifferent to us."

"First, I marked this as "Great for Outdoor Dining" but it's not really outdoors. It sits on the Grand Canal in the Venetian Hotel. So it's kind of a fake outside but it is pretty and you get to hear the gondoliers going by sing opera which seems kind of strange with SW/Mexican food.
We started with an excellent guacamole and chips and then my bride had the pork tenderloin while I had the Mexican bbq pork. Both were outstanding. If anything there was too much food as we skipped dessert and just had a second of their excellent margaritas. Service was superb and we enjoyed our meal."

"food was good, price was resonable, but service was bad. i don't understand it as they have a lot of people working there, but trying to get a refill was a long process. the food also comes out slow (not sure if that's the kitchen or servers delay).overall, a good place if you don't mind a little longer experience due to slow service"

"Right on the canal in between teh Venetian and Palazzo. Food was MUCH better than the convention fare. Prix Fixe menu was very tasty and a great deal for lunch. Salsa is great. Guac is from Costco. Butternut squash soup is perfect (skeptical of it beforehand). The gondoliers sing their way by you."
