Stark's Steakhouse brings classic fare with a modern approach to downtown Santa Rosa's Old Railroad Square. The restaurant's decor blends classic charm and vintage detail with lush fabrics, weathered leather, and two fireplaces in an old brick setting.

"As I have celiac disease, it is very hard to find restaurants that offer as large of a gluten free menu as this place did. Our food was absolutely delicious! From the oysters, to the soup, to the entrees, we were beyond pleased. My husband even stated that one of his most favorite part of our visit to Sonoma was the dinner at Stark's Steak and Seafood! The only negative thing I would state is that the outside of the restaurant was a little misleading. When we pulled up the area looked a little shady, and the restaurant did not look like the high end restaurant that we thought. We actually almost turned around and didn't go in. However, the outside was very deceiving and the inside was beautiful. Very glad we didn't turn around!"

"I have been to Starks Steakhouse 3 years prior to this visit and it was amazing BUT when i took my mom and my son there for mothers day this past sunday, not one single person liked their food plus we paid $284 for the entire dinner and i must be honest, i had much better tasty food at a restaurant where we paid only $100. My mom is a chef and it was quite embarrassing to me since i wanted it to be special."

"At a restaurant that presents itself (and prices itself) as a premium dining destination, mistakes are always disappointing. A drink order was never delivered and a hot appetizer was delivered cold. That said, all three entrees and a soup dish were excellent."

"Another noisy night at Starks. Their steaks are not good -- We paid $40 for prime NY that I'm certain was not prime. Plus it was cold and dry. This was not the first bad steak I had been served at Starks. Very inattentive service. No-one checked on us until we were done eating. Might go back but would never order a steak there again."

"We went to the Steakhouse to celebrate my son's birthday. All of us enjoyed our food, and our waitress was exceptionally pleasant. We had a very pleasant evening. My only complaint was that prices were a little high, considering that most of the dishes were a la carte."

"Had a martini at the standing room only (we lucked out and got a seat) bar. A very happening loud but not overwhelming, spot, very local, very fun.
Moved to the dining room for a nice dinner, me and my husband love the mood and the food here every time. Hubs had the chicken under a brick, may just be the best chicken ever. I had the butterfish, which was also devine.
The sommeleir picked a great non-oaky chardonnay.
After dinner to our wine bar/club favorite spot for an after dinner drink and live music, Cellars of Sonoma."

"The food is always incredible at Starks every time my husband and I dine there. I wish I could say the same for the service. We ordered a couple of oysters for an appetizer and they never came to our table, (thankfully we were not charged for them). Our waitress took a good 10 minutes before she ever came to our table to even greet us. When we asked for the remainder of our food to be boxed up it never came back to our table. I had to ask our waitress twice if she could please find it (which she did) but didn't seem happy about it."

"I was looking for a quiet and romantic place for my wife and I. We made the mistake of entering through the bar which was extremely noisy from people have a really good time. We almost turned around and left.
Fortunately, we found the restaurant door to the rear of the bar area and we given a quiet table against a wall at the rear of the restaurant."

"The meat here is outstanding. It is, however, EXTREMELY expensive. Due to the price, I think at least one vegetable side order should be included, but is not. The simple green and caesar salads are just OK. The wedge is a good salad. The bread is a dinner roll type loaf. It is not a favorite of mine, but the garlic butter it sits in is great. I didn't really like the Sauvignon Blanc offered by the glass; but the Tuscan meritage red was very nice. Both bussers were attentive and especially friendly. The waiter was friendly and knowledgeable; but he was too busy to pay adequate attention to us. Our food was cooked correctly and delivered in a timely fashion. I requested and got a quiet table for 2 which I really appreciated."

"Service was very good. I ordered a Select Ribeye, med rare, it was not tender and was about 15% fat and gristle. My date ordered a filet with shrimp that was an execellent quality. We also had a loaded baked potato and roasted mushrooms, that were the highlight of the meal. The Garlic-Dill butter on the fresh bread was amazing!"

"Disappointing Steak . For $41.00 a prime rib eye cured for 28 days should taste better then it did.Very bland & semi tough. I have barbequed better steaks then that at a lesser cut.The Kobi Steak my partner had was a little better but still nothing to write home about. Plus it was nothing that different or energetic taste wise on the menu. I spent 180.00 dollars for 2 people on a disappointing meal."

"We took a shot at trying something new one night and have been a fan ever since. We'll drive the hour it takes to get to Santa Rosa without question.
Great drinks, great appetizers, a steakhouse that easily ranks as high as Flemings and Ruth Chris. It's by far one of the best steakhouses in the San Francisco Bay Area!"

"Wonderful place to go for a very special occassion and you have lots of money. Unfortunately, the only way I could afford to go to Stark's is during restaurant week. Even during restaurant week our tab for 4 and we brought our own wine was over $230, not including tip. Only extras was an appetizer and coffee with dessert.
Love the OpenTable. Booking reservations was easier than calling. I receieved updated emails and a call from the restaurant the day before to confirm my reservations."

"I have heard great reviews of Startks and was glad to give it a try. I've realized I'm not a 'foodie' so don't always appreciate the finer dining experience, hence my 'good' overall score. However, I would definitly recommend the restaurant for 'foodies', special occasions, celebrations, or a romantic evening. Decor is very modern and stylish, and ambiance is very welcoming. Server was very friendly and attentive."

"Went early on a Friday night and had a wonderful time. There weren't too many people there so we received excellent service. Our server was very attentive and very pleasant. The food was fabulous. Great place for a special occasion or date night because it is a little pricey. Well worth it. Also no corkage fee for the first two bottles of wine you bring in!"

"Very disappointing! My husband's steak was much too fatty, and my salmon was just ok. Entrees came out a bit too quickly...as if they had just been reheated in the kitchen. Overall, disappointing meals at a very expensive restaurant. Since we were there I heard of another similar experience...also during restaurant week. Could that have something to do with it??"

"The person working the first point of interaction couldn't take the time out to great us upon entering- I found that to be quite rude...took awhile to get service and it didnt seem to be the "standard" when it did come. I oredered a prime cut which was cooked perfectly however my partner's fish dish was was over cooked which should'nt have been at this level. The sides were good and seasoned well. Over all we won't likely return for dinner, though happy hour may be an future option."

"A great steakhouse--the best in the area. Also good fish dishes, but primarily a steakhouse. Also have free corkage for up to 2 bottles of wine, which is a big plus. Steaks done to perfection, and have a choice of either choice or prime meat. Exvellent sides and they are also known for their whiskey bar, for those who care about that stuff."
