"waiter spoke too quickly and with a heavy accent; could not understand him very well. he disappeared at times as well. one item on the prefixe lunch menu was not available and we were not made aware of it until someone tried to order it. no substitution was offered. the cajun cod sanwich was more bread than anything and was the furthest from anything cajun i've ever had. disappointing overall."

"service was OK - kept forgetting to bring utensils and various dishes. Signature chowder was bland and lacking ingredients that were there when they first opened. It has turned into colored cream with a shrimp in it. Not so good anymore."

"There were 4 older adults (in our 70's) and we all loved this place! It truly has the best crab cakes I have ever tasted. The food was excellent, as was our server. The only problem was the temperature in the place....it was so cold, that even the men were cold. We requested several times that they turn the air up to make it warmer, but it never got warmer. it must have been set at 65 degrees.
As we left, we observed most of the women were wrapped up in their shawls or jackets. So even younger ones were uncomfortable, not just us old folks!
Other than that, it was a great experience.

"My husband and I had had dinner here before a performance at Lincoln Center during Restaurant Week, and we enjoyed the food and the spacious, modern feel of the room. For this occasion, when I wanted to reserve a large table (for seven) and was unable, on short notice, to get the time I needed at one of our usual brunch places, I recalled that Ed's had a breakfast/brunch menu. We were too early for brunch, but the breakfast choices were varied and plentiful. I was told by the others that they enjoyed their meal and the atmosphere. I had a frittata with shrimp and leeks that was delicious and light. We will be returning."

"Though the food is fine, the service is a problem. Not only was an order messed up, it took far too long to get it correct. Also we arrived at 6:00 and informed our server that we had a show to make, the service was then extremely slow and when he gave us the dessert menus at 7:30 he assured us that there was enough time. However the desserts did not arrive until 7:45 and we had to leave to walk to the theater. I agree that restaurants should include a service charge for parties of 6 or more (which we were), but 20% was not appreciated in light of our terrible service."

"I'm a traditionalist who's not into Nouveau Cuisine, so I had mixed feelings when my wife suggested we dine at Ed's Chowder House.
But my fears were uncalled for, as one can find many choices of quality food. Service was fine. little pricey, but that's a trade-off for it's convenience to Lincoln Center.

"Ed's Chowder House has nothing of Ed left in it, if there ever was an Ed, except perhaps the food. The wonderful corner space with high ceilings and large windows facing onto Lincoln Center has an inexplicable décor that would be more at home in a suburban hotel ballroom than a chowder house, with dark wood paneling and crown moldings, topped with striped wallpaper.
The bar is up to snuff and the service is passable, but again more akin to the suburban hotel model and not truly up to Manhattan standards, particularly in terms of the wait staff's knowledge and professionalism.
The food, however, was wonderful and portions were generous. Soft shell crab specials were out of this world, and the whole sea bream was perfectly grilled."

"I ate here before for lunch and it seemed pretty good. It wasn't up to snuff on Sunday. We had the fixed price menu which was $25. The clam chowder was so, so and I couldn't chew the clams. The fish sandwich was fine. The sorbet which came with the fixed price lunch was also so, so. In my opinion, a place called chowder house should be providing great chowder and fish entrees and they didn't."

"I've been here at least 5 times and the food is consistently interesting and very well-prepared. Wish it wasn't so loud when you're seated next to a group of shouters, but I guess that's inevitable in a big place like this. The service is friendly but not smarmy, helpful if you need it and not overly solicitous. I can count on taking foreign guests here and find a wonderful meal. Especially good before and after Lincoln Center events."

"The food is great, this is the closest and best to Lincoln Center......but the service really stands out.
Roxie who mans the phones remembers your name, makes sure you get seated and makes you not feel so bad for being late for your rezzy.
The restaurant understands that everyone needs to get across the street and they offere meals that are fast-especially when you're late.
The place is completely worth returning many, many times.
Dumn name...because the room is elegant and glam......
four stars definitely.

"I have eaten here several times and it is always good-very good but rarely great. I love the chowders, but the corn chowder was not quite hot enough and skin was starting to form on the top, as if it had been sitting almost a little too long. But very tasty. Same for the soft shell crab - the preparation was interesting and the crab was good, but again, not great. Based on all the times I have eaten at Ed's, I would say overall the apps and bar food are often better than the entrees."

"This place a good variety of seafood to please any fish foodie. You can pick a chowder or get a sampler of three different chowders. You can have "just" a sandwich, like a lobster roll or you can have a complete meal with the fish of your choice. The round booths are great for parties of six to eight people."

"The best part about Ed's is the simplicity. The bar is quaint, very well lit with natural lighting and has an excellent selection of cocktails, wine and beer. The dining area is spacious and cozy, with partial views of neighboring Lincoln Center. The food, from the appetizer selection, entrees and deserts were well thought out and executed beautifully. Everything tasted good, a testament to the chefs preparation. And finally, the service was professional, but not stuffy. She had fun with her job."

"We returned to Ed's Chowder House after a long absence because we found the service to be seriously lacking in the past. We were pleasantly surprised to find the service most attentive. The food still is much to our liking so we will return."

"Wait staff were awful. Food was mediocre. The food was OK but very pricey. The coffee was in drinkable. Sent it back and the second pot was just as bad grinds in it and greasy and the waiter told us he never had any complaints before. This is about the 6th visit to this restaurant for us and each time it gets worse. I will not be back"

"The quality of the fish is very good but the overall presentation and the staff need an overhaul. A few steps up from a Red Lobster currently - I think they need to offer less on the menu and upgrade the presentation of the food. Not sure I would come back again."

"First visit to Ed's Chowder House after many years of pre-Lincoln Center dining. Lovely decor, relatively spacious tables and very nice service. The food itself was surprisingly unmemorable - clam chowder was OK, while the tuna portion was small, and the crab special was not so special. There are far better seafood restaurants in the city, but none so convenient to Lincoln Center. I saw two sets of diners come at 6:30pm who felt rushed in trying to make a 7:30pm curtain - duh! We arrived at 6pm, and were comfortably on our way after dessert and coffee by 7:15. We will come back for the ambiance and location, and explore other menu items to see what their best dishes might be."

"Ed's is always our first choice prior to a performance at the Met.
We are repeat visitors. However, service fell a bit short this time.
As we were seated at 6:10, we made it clear we had a 7:30 curtain, but it took 10 more minutes to get our waiter.
We asked other servers, and our busboy - and finally our server arrived. To his credit he was very fast and apologetic.
Just don't understand why we couldn't even get a drink order in when we were first seated.

"We had been here a few years ago and were impressed with the clean, sharp ambience and food. Sorry to say it has lost some of it's polish in the interim. The table felt like a dining hall formica with an uneven base. Food was decent, but nothing special. Disappointed."

"The family was in town for the Fordham graduation, staying at the Empire Hotel so we decided to eat at Ed's. The place was packed. The staff couldn't keep up (one server was covering tables on both sides of the room) so they would choose which patron to lavish their attention on and it wasn't us (I guess because we weren't ordering bottles of wine or heaping raw bar platters.) From the start, service was poor. It took forever to order. Water glasses were not refilled unless someone was flagged down. A request for grated cheese was greeted with a smirk. The noise level was at a dull roar and we had to shout to converse. The food was acceptable. The lobster roll was a hit as was the chowder sampler. Hake was tasty as well."

"Last night we had soft shell crabs. We have been coming to this restaurant for years. This was BY FAR the best entree we have ever had. The preparation & the accompanyments were superb. I could eat that every week!! Please offer this as long as you can. Do it every year just like it was done yesterday ."

"I've always loved Ed's and hate to give anything but a great review, but this time the food was just blah. The new england clam chowder had zero flavor and hardly any clams. Then the fluke had no flavor, even with the accompaniments and extra lemon. Neither my friend nor I finished anything, except the lemon meringue pie, which happy to say was delicious. Also they moved a chair into the aisle to seat a man at the booth right opposite our table, putting his back uncomfortably close & "in our face". We would've spoken up, but didn't want the fuss of having us or the other group move. I might go back for one more try - I still like the service and atmosphere - but I'm taking Ed's off my go-to list."

"This has become our "go to" rstaurant when we are off to any Lincoln Center event. Everything is consistently perfect. The only warning is to avoid sitting at tables near the bar, which is especially vibrant. Seats near the bar are fine for people who have nothing to say to one another"

"Third time eating at Ed's. Food terrific and imaginative without being over the top. Noise level this time was fine, but on one occasion in the past it was "energetic." Service exceptional. If you are going to Lincoln Center for ballet, opera, whatever, this is a great and convenient place to eat. Open late enough to stop in after the event for dessert and/or drinks."

"We thought the food was wonderful at this restaurant but being across the street from Lincoln Center they should, without fail, be able to give the diners a wonderful meal without feeling rushed. We received our entrees 15 minutes before curtain. They knew we had ballet tickets and the curtain time when we made the reservation and I reminded the maitre d and the waiter when we were seated. It was a shame because we thought the restaurant was marvelous until we had to run to the theater."

"I've been here a number of times and always find the food above satisfactory, We enjoyed the lobster rolls but felt they were a little pricey given they don't come with anything other than a bit of cole slaw.
The service was not up to par. Our server wasn't helpful about any changes we requested, and there were few people dining at lunch. They offered us a dish of cookies, that, sadly, were only mediocre.
However, Ed's Chowder House is convenient to Lincoln Center, and the food continues to be very good. We shall return."
