In a warm and inviting atmosphere, Cooper’s Tavern offers a fresh, modern approach to American cuisine. Chef Julian Clauss-Ehlers brings refined comfort to the table with a menu that includes Bershire pork chops, Black Angus steaks, fish & chips, falafel-crusted salmon and a signature “Skyscraper Burger” made with the famed LaFrieda beef.
"Once you get by the tremendous fish odor that permeates the entire place ... the food wasn't too bad. The rose wine we ordered was undrinkable so we sent it back. The balance of the food wasn't bad and certainly worth the 14.95 lunch special. Overall, however, its some what of a big old miss. Good thing we only picked it because it was 2 blocks from Sam Ash Music."

"You accommodated an ad hoc retirement lunch for a large group of us, and you handled it with such aplomb. Thank you! The service was warm and attentive. The food was excellent (as always). And the ambiance was so peaceful and comfortable."

"Such a great restaurant and especilaly in this otherwise-dismal neighborhood. Excellent food, lovely/warm service, quiet enough for conversation (!), and a true "neighborhood gem". A good menu with a great prix-fix deal at lunch."

"Cooper's Tavern is a real gem. Who knew a restaurant that's nestled in a hotel would be so reasonable and good. The street entrance is a challenge as it's a pair of doors that create a wind vaccuum so that one has to close before you can open the second one, but once you get past that hurdle the interior is fine. Comfortable booths, and I've never been there when it was too noisy to chat comfortably. All you can eat mussels appetizer is a delight, and the portions overall are extremely generous. Staff is attentive without hovering. We go there whenever we need to meet friends or business acquaintances in that neighborhood."

"When I first arrived I ordered a Gin & Tonic. The drink was a bit too sweet and served in a glass I've never seen used for g&t in 10+ years of such consumption. The people watching from my window seat was fascinating. The bread and dip were lovely. The Shrimp Cocktail (I got the small version) was interesting. Both dips were lovely, but the shrimp weren't perfectly cleaned. The Veal Piccata was the biggest letdown of the meal. The veal was tough, the sauce was very thin and didn't coat the linguine."

"This was a perfectly service-able meal if you have to be close to Madison Square Garden or Penn Station. It's really more of a glorifed diner than a true restaurant"

"Food quality was bad, steak and veal were over-cooked when requested medium rare. Wait staffs spilted sauce on my suits, I was fine with that because accident do happened. But food quality was really bad according to my standards. Needs improvement"

"This is one of the eating spots closest to Madison Square Garden, but this time it appeared as if they substituted a new menu, with significantly higher prices, just because there was a concert going on at the Garden. Bad form!"

"I had a quick lunch here with a friend from work and wow, I have to say, I was not expecting the food to be so tasty. I obviously don't patron places where I don't think the food will be good, but I was a little surprised at Cooper's. Hands down, to date, the best burger I've had in NYC. Yes, HUGE claim in a place where you can get a burger on just about every block in the city. It was cooked perfect, had a great taste, awesome onions and smoked cheese, and accompanied by yummy fries. I didn't go there for a burger, but glad it was what I decided to order.
Nicely done, I will be back for another one soon!"

"My wife and I found Cooper's Tavern after going to the International Auto Show. They have a great "Skyscraper Burger", ten ounces with portobello mushrooms, mozzarella cheese, bacon, yum, cooked to perfection. The greeter seemed unimpressed with Open Table. We got there a few minutes early and she said, "Well, we're not ready for you yet." It wasn't a problem to wait ten minutes, but I would have thought they would appreciate clients who use Open Table to drive business to them."

"Happened to hold a very nice business location, 1 minute walk from msg and penn station. It's located in the lobby of "New Yorker Hotel". Other than this, nothing really appealing. food is expensive for both its quality and quantity, service is very inconsistent."

"I met a girlfriend for lunch here last week. There were three tables already eating when I sat down. My friend arrived ten minutes later and it took our server five minutes after that to bring us water. When he did, my glass had a lipstick mark on the rim. It took us five minutes to locate him and tell him about the glass; yet another five to order. The other tables had long since left. Our food was decent - we left full - but it took a while yet again to locate our server for the check. Although he was sweet, he and the other servers seemed more interested in sitting and socializing at the bar than making sure their guests were taken care of."

"Went there at one evening because it was next to my hotel. The food was average, for what I got much overpriced. The service was slow, not really friendly, not worth to check out this location."

"This is one of the few restaurants near Madison Square Garden that offers decent food and allows reservations. One problem, however, is that it is located off the lobby of The New Yorker Hotel, which is not mentioned on its web site or anyplace else I could find, so the bar area and potentially part of the dining area can be filled with transient travellers and all of their luggage."

"The food was good. We especially enjoyed the hummus with hot sauce that is served with the bread. However, we went here because their website menu listed Pre Fixe Dinner Special of $19.95 Until 8pm but they said they didn't have it. Very disappointing since that's the main reason we went. We would have left but we told a friend to meet us there - then she didn't even have anything to eat due to the high prices and no pre fixe. Plus the window advertised happy hour specials but it was only at the bar."

"You need a box for "Yucky" While my server was nice, she, and evidently the others their, know little about wine. Food is mediocre at best, website reads WAY better than the brick and mortar deliver. Don;t do it!"

"We chose this restaurant because of its close proximity to our hotel (it's actually in the hotel we're staying) and because they offered an app+dinner menu for $19.95 until 8 pm. We made 7 pm reservations. When we asked our server about the special, he said it was not being offered that night. We asked why and he said chef's choice. I asked to speak to the manager and the server went to get him but brought back the specials menu instead. Mood shattered. The food was mediocre. Won't go back."

"it's the type of place that you'd go to after work to relax, or for a casual business meeting, or for an elegant date. i was seated right away, which was great. i wanted something light, so i had the sizzling chicken caesar salad. i have no complaints about my meal and there are other things on the menu i would love to try. would like to go back!"
