"5 reasons why:
1. The Noise: from the bar was overwhelming - noise spills into the dining room
2. The Music: (live band) - consisted of bongo drums and a caribbean theme that was so loud as to make it difficult to be heard across the table in the dining room. We finished our main course and left without dessert
3. The Food: ho-hum at best. Appetizers that should have been hot were only warm (crab). The lamb, while nicely cooked, came with what had to be 3 portions of lentils (lentils!).
4. The scallops and short rib main course, while unique, is really just a novelty appetizer at best.
5. The Service: intrusive. If you're there for private conversation - this is (disappointingly) not the place.

"I thought the food was great, presentation was spot-on, the portions were reasonable (not too much, or too little) and the price reasonable. A big plus is the ambience. Tasteful, upscale and quiet and the main reason I selected Rush for an important business lunch. I detest going to a restaurant and paying top dollar for a meal where I can barely hear the person sitting beside me, no problem conversing with everyone at my table without having to raise my voice or straining to hear what was being said - a very refreshing change from a few similar establishments in Calgary.
The service was perfect, just the right balance without hovering over you, but always there at just the right moment - impressive! Take that La Chaumiere!"

"We went to Rush just before the Opera and it's the second time I've been there. When I think of the Wait staff at Rush, I think of them in terms of Professional Waiters. The staff is amazing, the food is amazing and when we told them our time constraints, they were very accomodating.
The decor is lovely, and the ambiance is nice too. We went there when it first opened, at 5pm and the noise level was quiet, I would imagine it could get quite loud though. In the lounge area there was live music which spilled over into the dining room-so that was nice.
We didn't have time to try the Chef's Tasting menu, but I plan on going back to do so. Rush is one of my favourite places in Calgary now!"

"The steak was a little underdone as I asked for medium-rare, and received rare. The music was too loud, and asked them to turn it down twice. However, small things. The decor is very nice and the service professional yet at times a little too keen. The lunch menu has a very good selection. We would go back to try more."

"Overall the experience was good. The dining room was very elegantly decorated, the staff was very attentive, and the atmosphere was suitable for a business dinner. The only blemish was the appetizers. I think the chefs would benefit from re-thinking some of the starters. We were so worried about our main course after the appetizers that we were considering canceling the order, but we were pleasantly surprised. The duck breast was wonderful...brilliantly cooked, great flavour combinations. My husband had the steak and he was very pleased as well."

"Had a lovely dinner at Rush the other evening. Hadn't been for a while, during which the chef has changed several times. Still delivering excellent value. We had a wonderfully comfortable booth for two near the rear of the dining area. The food was really beautifully presented and very tasty. Scallops & foie-gras api was outstanding, a re-imagined caesar salad take was interesting and tasty. Our mains of duck trio and lamb were also terrific - wonderful flavour combinations. We also had a wonderfully personable yet professional server. The only minor quibble was that the plate and food arrived a little cooler than it should have. Overall, great place - I'll definitely be back!"

"Second visit here for lunch. Menu seemed to have shrunk. Still offers a choice of luncheon specials with three courses for $25, which is a steal for this calibre of restaurant.
My guest had the chicken special and I had their classic burger. I didn't taste the chicken, but my guest loved it. My burger was good, but certainly not great - I've had better, but never in such lovely ambiance.
However, I will give the pear salad a 5/5 - it hit all the right notes. The soup of the day was pea, which my guest thought was perfect.
Service was excellent. If you arrive maybe 10 minutes before noon and don't dawdle over the menu like we did, you can be out in an hour. Hard to find that anywhere in Calgary.
We will return."

"We loved the feel and atmosphere of Rush and definately reccommend this restaurant! The food was incredible and the service was amazing. To start, we received a small appetizer complements of the Chef - Salmon wrapped with Mango that was very tasty and refreshing What a nice touch! All of the food we had was mouthwatering and the service was impecable. We had help with their extensive wine list from personable, professional sommoliers who were genuinely passionate about their trade. Thank you to ALL of the staff for making our anniversary dinner so wonderful!"

"I first ate at Rush in June 2012 and found the food excellent and the presentation very appealing. I dined with the same friend for this outing as well as a second friend. The waiter informed us that the menu was new as well as the executive chef. I appreciated this foreknowledge as I found this outing much less enjoyable. I hope the new chef gets their bearings, but the food was only fair and I don't plan to return to Rush"

"The ambiance of the restaurant was very nice and very befitting with the company I had that night. The decor and decorating style was tastefully done with a modern and contemporary flair. The lounge looked particularly inviting but we had reservations for the dining room and did not linger long. The menu was easy to read with a good selection of proteins and starches with a good balance of Americana and European influence. The plates were a visual delight and eating with our eyes did not disappoint. The wait staff were attentive but not to the point where they intrude on table conversation which is a common problem with over servicing a table in many fine dining restaurants. I will definitely put Rush on my list of favorites"

"Rush is one of my favorite restaurants in Calgary. They have gone through a few changes recently and have increased the price of their tasting menu and started charging for bread. That's right...I spend $95 for a tasting menu and I have to spend $5 for bread....The ambience of Rush is great and so is the service."

"My girlfriends and I decided to try something new and we were pleasantly impressed! The food was phenomenal and it was presented beautifully and the price was still very reasonable. I was surprised out how good the food was considering the price. Our server was a breathe of fresh air as he was so professional and happy! I feel that good service is a dying breed and our server was so great! I will definitely recommend this to people and it is on my top 5 fav restaurants!"

"I love Rush! My only complaint is that their menu hasn't changed in quite a while and so there were no new items to choose from so I ended up ordering the same entree I ordered last time. They don't offer daily or weekly specials either. Although the service is impecable and I love the ambience, I probably won't go there for a while because I need some different entree choices."

"This was my third visit to Rush in about 2 years. Each time, there have been little things that left me wanting given the cost. Ambiance is very nice and our server was very engaging. However, we sat with out appetizer for almost 10 minutes before we recieved utensils. My husbands $35 steak was overcooked and dry. My steak steak was served like prime rib and relatively bland. I'm not a fussy diner and we don't go out for "fancy" meals often (once or twice a year). But for the cost of this restaurant, I expect a superior experience. I would recommend Vintage over Rush."
