"The first time I went to this restaurant, I gave it four stars. This time, it was more crowded and loud. They seated us in the back room where it was cold and drafty. The broccoli, which I thought was fantastic the first visit, was overdone this visit. I guess that this restaurant is inconsistent. The back room would have probably been lovely on a warmer, sunny day when the place was uncrowded. I won't be going out of my way to dine here again."

"A group of 4 of us had a late evening meal on a Sunday and enjoyed it tremendously. Appetizers we had all were delicious - octopus, mussels (enough for 4!), and smoked trout salad. Similarly, main courses of ribeye, scallops, fresh fish of the day, and cavatelli all were great. Service was very good. I am glad we decided to try Amali and hope to go back."

"We had a late lunch at Amali on a Saturday. The menu was limited. The food we had was good. However, it was an overall disappointing experience. We each ordered a glass of wine. The pour was so pitiful I asked the waitress, "is that a glass of wine?".
She smiled and poured a bit more for my husband, but not for me! We asked for bread. We got 3 quarters of a slide in a small bowl. We had to ask for more. The tables are wooden, no tablecloths, very little ambience, yet the prices are high.
It was, overall, a disappointing experience."

"Went for a dinner date with my boyfriend and the service is the first thing I'll recommend. The sommelier was very helpful, identifying a Greek white wine based off of previous Greek grapes that we have had. The bottle didn't come for a while, so after we inquired, it turns out they were chilling it even longer because as they retrieved the bottle from the cellar, they didn't think it was the right temperature. They were also the ones to noticed that our table was uneven and fixed it before we even noticed. It's these little details that made the service exceptional. We had the Octopus a la Plancha as a starter then shared the Black Sea Bass with broccoli. Everything is delicious, especially the Octopus. Definitely recommend it!"

"I celebrated my 40th Birthday with a group of friends from Australia. The food was divine with excellent service and fabulous champagne and wine. The staff were fantastic and we sat outside under the skylight which was perfect. The ricotta doughnuts and the chicken under a brick were to die for and the vegetarian amongst us was also very happy with the choices available. A fantastic time had by all."

"Very helpful staff in describing dishes and helping to select and combine plates. We shared everything, and it was all superb, interesting, luscious. The room became very noisy as it became more crowded. By the end of dinner, we couldn't hear each other. A bit pricy, especially the wine. But a memorable meal for a foodie."

"The food was out of this world. I had 2 vegetable appetizers and one soup. They encourage ordering small plates and sharing. The brussel sprouts were topped with cheese; almonds; and spices and slightly frayed. The broccoli had pignoli nuts and was heavenly. The eggplant was stuffed and topped with cheese. These descriptions do not do justice to the flavors; spices and unusual combinations that the chef created. The soup was a mussel cocmut broth - very enticing - but a much smaller portion. My friend's chicken was on the dry side. There was some overly loud patrons but it quieted down as the evening got later. The service was a bit off but nothing serious. I would highly recommend this place if you are a foodie."

"Our server was very friendly and knowledgeable, the menu is terrific and the food delightful; highly recommend the chicken. I guess I expected more of a "wow" factor in the decor of an UES place that's been getting terrific reviews. We were in the front room and my guest commented, "I feel like I'm at the beach". So, if you manage your expectations a bit around ambiance and expect a more casual vibe, you'll have a great time at Amali."

"This was our second time to Amali in the past few months. While the food was perfect first time, this time some dishes were off (pasta was a bit too al dente, mussels slightly overcooked and roasted brussels sprouts were on the salty side) but still quite tasty. We emailed the sommelier a few days before dinner to inquire about the availability of aglianico wines from Italy but he never responded although he remembered our email and did apologize once we arrived. (The aglianico we did order was probably not worth the $100 price tag.)
All in all, we love Amali and will go back again."

"The menu is extremely limited. I ordered the prix fixe lunch. My appetizer was the grilled octopus salad which was ample and delicious and probably the only thing I should have ordered. The 2 entree options were both pasta. I ordered the pasta carbonara which was AWFUL... the sauce was gloppy and cloying..I had a forkful and called it quits. I didn't send it back because the server would have asked what I wanted instead and there was really nothing that I wanted instead. My guest ordered the whole grilled branzino and asked to have it fileted. It came on an absolutely naked plate -not even a floret of broccoli- and it had bones. There was no option to order a side of rice or vegetables or anything. The prices are high."

"The food at Amali was wonderful! Four of us ate lunch/brunch here last Sunday. We had the grilled octopus, roasted brocolli, eggplant and mussels for appetizers and everything was truly delicious. These were followed by orders of the braised lamb over polenta corn bread covered with a fried egg and the roast chicken. Both were big hits. The staff was attentive and informative. Nice wine list as well!"

"I really enjoyed our meal here. The appetizers were a little spotty but it was ok because the main entree we had was spectacular. We ordered a pasta and the salt baked fish which were both excellent. You should definitely make sure to order the fish for the table - the presentation is wonderful and the fish itself is delicious. The side of broccoli that we ordered was also divine. Aside from the food, I thought the wine list was pretty great. The sommelier came over to help us choose a wine that the whole table really enjoyed. The overall ambiance of the restaurant was very quaint and cute however it was pretty noisy for such a small space. Nonetheless, I will certainly go back and try more."

"I was excited to try Amali after hearing great things about it from my brother. I suggested this restaurant when dining with my parents on a cold Saturday evening. While the food itself all tasted delicious, I was shocked to hear that the oven had broken earlier that day an some items were not available. Specifically the salt crusted fish was not being served. I am not a meat eater and was looking forward to the fish. Furthermore, because the restaurant prides itself on farm to table and sustainable eating, the whole fish would seems to be a stand out item. This, I think that when the host called to confirm my reservation, he could have mentioned that the oven was broken that evening."

"The restaurant is terrific but THEY ARE NO LONGER WITH OPEN TABLE!!! When e got there they did not have our reservation because of this. Luckily, they had room and we were seated. They have called open table repeatedly and cannot get off there system. They begged us to say something so here it is."

"A pleasant friendly reception makes all the difference in a restaurant, assuming the food is good. At Amali, the food is very good, and the team are very friendly. it was too loud even in the back though, but i'm happy they're busy because this is a restaurant that deserves to thrive. They do a great job with allkinds of food - pasta & veggies, meat & fish - and all in sustainable thoughtful approach. Now, for some ceiling baffles..."
