Restaurant Tallent offers a beautiful modern space, delicious seasonal cuisine, and a carefully chosen wine list with several wines by the glass.
The menu at Restaurant Tallent changes several times throughout the year and primarily reflects what is available in the Southern Indiana region during that season. Both David and Kristen Tallent design the menu with regionally produced cheeses, fruits, vegetables and meats as the raw material. To ensure that the highest quality meat and produce is available for seasonal menu items, Restaurant Tallent works closely with local farmers and artisan food producers. Their combination of Old World culinary methods and mid-Western produce and meats results in a distinctly Indiana cuisine.
"Even though we visited Restaurant Tallent during graduation weekend, we didn't get the feeling that they were rushing or cutting corners to accommodate the crowds. We had a reservation and were promptly seated. Wait staff was knowledgeable and helpful, but not annoyingly hovering. Interesting menu choices. Our meals rivaled anything you would get in a top-notch restaurant in a major city. Fresh ingredients, perfectly cooked, and extremely tasty. Don’t be offended by the fact that it may seem a bit pricey by Bloomington standards – your meal is well worth it and an excellent value."

"Creative chef, smooth service, good wine list and a fun atmosphere near the Bloomington IN town square. Appetizer, asparagus and crawfish was a surprise first course that really raised my expectations for a restaurant that has a national reputation. We matched our meal with a white Bordeaux for around $42-$45 a bottle. Dessert of a vanilla bean sundae was superb. Entree of Indiana pork on a cornbread base was under seasoned (and surprisingly so). The meat was tender and seared crispy is a spot of two just as I like it around the edges. Perhaps it's the midwestern taste to serve meat with little "fire" attached via seasoning but in my hometown of New Orleans the lack of bite would have raised a few quizzical looks."

"We came here for our anniversary dinner (we were back in Bloomington visiting) and many people had recommended it to us. The food was phenomenal -- inventive, local, and very tasty. "Tallent is widely considered the "best of the best" in my town, but it is also the most expensive. Thus, expectations are very high for a gastronomically delightful experience. But not this time. I've eaten there several times and while the food is excellent and presented attractively, the menu is limited as is the wine list. Our reservation was fairly early, we ordered before the place was half full, and yet had a substantial wait for our food. That in itself was not an issue, but the temperature of our food was less than desired when the entrees finally arrived. I suspect there will be an occasion that will bring me back to Tallent, but we'll be dining at several other local favorites between now and then."

"We had the most wonderful dinner for my daughter's return home from college. Our server, Alex, kindly pointed us in the right direction with our drinks and gave a lot of helpful information about our food. He always seemed to be right there whenever we needed someone. Truly perfect timing. The food was beautifully presented and perfectly cooked. The star of the show was the salmon dish in my humble opinion. Never in my life have I had such a perfect cut of fish. "I took my wife to Restaurant Tallent to celebrate her birthday. It was a lovely meal, enjoyed by both of us. Interesting menu. The food was delicious. My Charcuterie was lots of fun to eat, and my wife loved the Arugula Salad. She also raved about her Wild Striped Bass. My Indiana Ribeye was nicely prepared and presented. Savored every bite.
A couple of touches were notable. I ordered a Brooklyn IPA that was served at a temperature that really enhanced it's flavor; not so cold as per usual. Also the (Incredible) S'mores Tart was toasted perfectly, and tasted as if it had been done over a campfire! Wow.
A Happy-Birthday. Thank-you Restaurent Tallent!"

"The creative recipes are much more impressive than the end products. My wife and I had two different meat dishes--both were very dry and tough. By the time we received the entrees (after wine cocktails and appetizers), it was very late in the evening, which led us not to return them and order something else. For the very high prices, the meal should be of much better quality."

"I had heard about Restaurant Tallent and finally got to go there. It did not disappoint. The food was excellent, well prepared with subtle flavors. It was not as expensive as I thought it might be. The service was friendly, competent, and unobstrusive, just what it should be. The only aspect that somewhat disappointed me was the decor, which seemed a bit stark and not very cozy, but I suppose the goal was a clean, modern look, and I got more used to it over the course of our dinner."

"Absolutely fantastic! We arrived an hour early and there was a bar table available we took it. The service was great and the food goes without saying--FANTASTIC!!!! They allowed us to have a dining experience. We never once felt like they wanted our table. We closed the place down!! We got to talk to Dave Tallent before the night was over! What a wonderful gentleman!!"

"Appetizers were very good; excellent tilefish and good mussels. However, both entrees were heavy and the wine reduction was very much on the sweet side. The bison rib was very fatty, although the beef was cooked perfectly."

"I was a little disappointed in Tallent. We had reserved ahead of time and said in our request that we were coming for our daughter's 21st birthday. Nothing special was done for her. I think the restaurant should have acknowledged that or done something.
The food was good, but not plentiful. I am not sure I would go back. There are other choices. It was OK, but it was not the par of Recess or Room 4 in Indianapolis."

"We chose to visit due to the January Italian based menu and were not disappointed. The anti-pasta, primi and secondi were all quite tasty, fresh and well portioned. Being able to get a reduced size primi was nice as it allowed us to really enjoy the secondi. The server was helpful in recommending a wine to go with our fish selections and it did match well. We visit two-three times a year and this first time for 2013 pleased us again."

"I have been disappointed with two of the last three meals that I have had at Tallent. The food can be spectacularly good, but, unfortunately, our dinner was not. The carbonara and clam linguine were both too salty. The carbonara had too much thick, flavorless sauce, and spicy sausage in the clam linguine overpowered the taste of the seafood. The portions were also quite small. On a more positive note: the arugula/beet salad was excellent, and the wait staff very professional."

"As much as I wanted to love everything, we were both really disappointed in the service we received. Everything seemed to be moving very slowly and our food was brought to us and cleared by several different people, none of whom were our server. Our server didn't check in to see how we were enjoying our meal either, which seems unusual. We heard countless apologies given to tables surrounding ours because of how backed up the kitchen was, but we didn't receive an apology despite the delay we also faced. We chose not to have dessert not because we weren't tempted, but simply because we didn't want to wait thirty minutes for a panna cotta."

"Reputedly Bloomington's best restaurant, yet the food is more ambitious than accomplished, perhaps not up to the prices. Chef has good ideas, but needs to try harder. Pasta and salads ok. Main plates way too brown (e.g., lamb chops, osso bucco), unrelieved even by parsley, with overcooked vegetables. For dessert, panna cotta stiff and bouncy with too much gelatin, overly sweet. Tasting menu enjoyable, if uneven. Noise level quite high on weekends, especially with tables so close: no sound absorbent surfaces, glass table tops, and banquettes as cramped as any in France. Staff good humored, pleasant, reasonably efficient. Lively atmosphere. Wine list aptly concentrated on less well known, less expensive bottles: drinkable and affordable."

"This latest trip to Tallent will probably be my last. My husband and I first experienced Tallent with a group party and it blew us away. Everything from start to finish was exceptional! We then came back as a couple and the food did not seem quite as good. This last trip we decided to give it one more shot and I brought the President of our company there with his wife. I tried the gnocchi which was average, in my opinion, and my bosses wife ordered the half portion of the ravioli. We were shocked at the portion size. I think she at it in one bite...more like tapas than a meal. I think for the price point and portion sizes there are far better restaurants with a better atmosphere and more bang for your buck."

"I wanted to take a special visitor from the DC area to a great place that represents Bloomington and that offers something even the DC area has yet to capitalize upon - great organic food served in a beautiful and romantic setting.
