"I had not been to the restaurant for a couple of years. Like most of Downtown Houston, the restaurant has become a place to go for those in there 20's and 30's (i.e., the music in the restaurant had more of a techno-beat feel to it). That said, the menu was thoughtful and original, and the food was quite good."

"I made my reservation at The Grove through OpenTable. Although the food and service were good, the hostess could not find my reservation, tried to seat a party of 6 at a table for 4, and when the other 3 members of the party arrived, she still could not show them to the table (luckily, I spotted them waiting at the hostess station and left the table to retrieve them)."

"The service was very slow but once you got you food then they rushed you through dinner to get you out so they could seat the next group waiting for a table. Not sure if I will ever go back"

"Don't think Mother's Day buffets show this restaurant in its best light. Price was great as compared to many others around town - but selection was not great - although the quality of the offering was excellent.Great location, of course - would definitely try it again."

"The brunch was over-priced and mediocre at best. Here's the kicker: as with any other buffet, we got our own food. No problem. However, the restaurant automatically charged us a 20% gratuity for the waiter to bring us water and tea. Ours was a table for three. Unbelievable! Also, it is the only place where I've had the hostess walk us to the table, point to it ("there"), and keep walking. Plenty of other options in the city."

"The Mother's Day Brunch buffet was very good. All food prepared well and tasty. Would have liked an omelet or carving station for the price. Drinks, such as coffee or juices were not included in the $35 price which I think is chintzy. Additionally, made the reservation a few weeks in advance and was not informed that it would be a buffet until the day before which was too late to change our reservation. we were chargerd the adult price for our two children rather the kids price we were quoted on the phone. My husband paid, it being Mom's day, and did not spot the error. Oh, if you have children, expect to be seated way in the back of the restaurant, 50 yds from the buffet. We may go back for a "regular" brunch as we like the park."

"This was our first experience at the Grove. We really enjoyed sitting outside on the patio for our Mothers Day brunch buffet but felt it was over priced. There were 5 of us total, 2 of which were 12 and under, the over all bill (including the 20% gratuity automatically added to this serve yourself buffet) was $298. The food was pretty good but would have liked to seen more variety with the meat."

"While my mother an I were eating lunch we were a little disturbed that an entire family started to move tables and chairs on their own to make it suitable for their family. I understand they wanted to be all be together, but it was disturbing that they were making noise and having their backs towards us as we were eating right in front of them. The manager should have pulled them aside. Instead of having them stand there and block our view and the hall so that people could walk.
Lunch date on 5/11/2013, around 1:30pm"

"For a special birthday we wanted a very nice dinner. We are middle aged and prefer a peaceful atmosphere. While the food and service were good at The Grove, the atmosphere was more casual & loud than we hoped for. This is by design since the bar area is open to the dining area. The tables are close together and there are no table cloths. The waitress was appropriately attentive. They didn't have the wine we wanted, so the waitress suggested another. She gave us a generous sample of that one which was in the same category. We didn't like that wine at all and were saved from a mistake. As a result, we found a wine that was pleasant enough. All in all, we were able to shut out the noise and enjoy ourselves."

"I had forgotten why I haven't been back here in a while. Then I had a business lunch. I ordered the overpriced lunch special ($19). A salad (fine), an entree of swordfish (raw in the center so I really didn't eat much because the portion was small to start) with grilled asparagus (decent) and a dessert of lemon pound cake with berries (there were at least three things that resembled some sort of berry). Not sure where that $19 went, but labor must be expensive."

"First off - their mojitos were simply perfect! The place was a typical 1/2 full+ crowd for a Tuesday night. I had a lovely musculin salad, then mac & cheese and steak. This mac & cheese is crazy delicious & with mushrooms! And the steak was cooked and seasoned to perfection. Though, I didn't need anything, I did feel a little under waited on. And I was surprised that I wasn't offered a wine list, my dinner waiter was only around to drop off food or the check. I was dining alone and maybe that had an impact. But like I said, I didn't need anything else, so I didn't go without anything. I would definitely go again and I REALLY loved that it was within walking distance from my or some other hotels: Embassy Suites, Four Seasons, Hilton downton."

"The service is as expected but the food really exceeded my expectations! The Rotisserie potatoes are divine, the Quail was outstanding and the shrimp pasta not only al dente but really flavorful. My party also had filet mignon which in my book was exquisite!! Kudos to my waiter Luis and to the Grove for such an amazing dining experience!!!"

"Had an early dinner (5:30 res) and there were lots of kids making noise and the restaraunt was pretty empty. Would have liked the mood to be a little more mature considering the steak was over $40.00. The food and service were great, just a little let down with the price/ambiance ratio."

"This was our first trip to Houston and we found the Grove as a matter of convenience. It was just across the street from our hotel, and we had a great view from our window looking down on the restaurant's garden. The restaurant was packed, but we arrived on time and were lead straight to our table.
Our server was knowledgeable and attentive. When quizzed on a particular drink (my dining companion wanted something sweet from the bar) he admitted he had never tried it, told us his favorite, and offered to get a sample of the drink in question from the bar.
The food was spot-on. We enjoyed every morsel from start to finish, including the heavenly lime dessert recommended by our server. Not only would we eat there again. We did. On Sun"

"Our waiter was very attentive and shared informtion when we asked questions. His food/wine suggestions were good. We were staying at a close-by hotel so were in walking distance to the restaurant. It was also an opportunity to see Discovery Green when it was not crowded. We were suprised that on a Saturday night the restaurant was not more crowded, we really didn't need reservations."

"Have been to THE GROVE many times before, but was somewhat disappointed on this visit. I brought a friend from out of town. Salmon was fishy and veggies were very uneventful with it and somewhat bland. Other dish ordered was Shrimp and Grits. Once again, very bland and nothing spectacular. Shrimp appetizer was pretty average as well. Not up to the normal par that I have experienced at THE GROVE."

"We got a great table by the window and had a hard time making up our minds when choosing what to order. Everything sounded soooo good! Food was great although a little pricey. Unless you order their flank/skirt steak there was really no meat dish under $40. My husband really enjoyed the Seafood Linguini Puttanesca. Everyone loved the skewered TX Quail for appetizer! The kids ordered the special which was Wagyu Beef but it was chewy as there was a big tendon running through it. The view and the ambiance was great.Valet parking was $8 and they offered $15 parking until end of events, which was a nice perk for us as we were going to the Rockets game afterwards. Outdoor patio was closed although the weather was nice."

"The parchment fish special is phenomenal! Definitely a loud and energetic restaurant so not ideal if you're looking for a quiet/romantic dining experience. Decent wine list, great bar scene. Outside tables are first come, first serve. We lucked out with a window table over looking the park. We'll be back!!!"

"The restaurant itself is very nice looking. It is a modern and high ceiling delight. The food was absolutely delicious, however our server seemed to be overwhelmed with 5 tables to care for. He was behind in dealing with our table of two. We gave him the benefit of the doubt since my daughter was a server in college and we know how difficult it can be. The room was loud, not good for a romantic dinner. We had the crab and corn casserole for appetizer, which had big chunks of crab and was delicious. Split an arugula salad that sounded better than it tasted, boring. Entree we split of papparadelle with braised short ribs and it was fantastic."

"We chose The Grove this particular evening because our dinner companion was staying at the Hilton Americas, and I knew that this would be a very short walk for him. We have been to the Grove on several occasions, and the food has always been decent, but the food we had on our most recent trip was particularly memorable. For the main course, I had the fish cooked in parchment paper and it was just spectacular. My husband also raved about his dinner, which was the swordfish. We had the lime tart for dessert (on our server's recommendation) and that was also quite special. I look forward to our next visit to The Grove and this time, we'll go because of the incredible food."

"Seated immediately upon arrival. Nice table along the windows looking out over the park. Waiter was knowledgeable and professional but he could have come around a bit more. It may just be the relaxed atmosphere that lends itself to a slower pace. Had the sashimi and quail appitizers and both were outstanding. Entrees arriving in a timely manor - beef filet, fish in parchment and rotisserie chicken were all delicious. we had two desserts at our table - Neapolitan Mousse Cake and the Texas Pecan Brown Butter Cake. The mousse cake was frozen solid. we had to cut it with a knife - it was not a favorite but the Brown Butter Cake was amazing. We went back on night 2 (staying at embassey suites next door) for more brown butter cake."

"We went to The Grove with high expectations and were frankly disappointed. Nestled in Discovery Green, The Grove has an outstanding view seldom seen inside the city of Houston. We started with the soup of the day and found it to be an excellent start. For the entree, my wife ordered the roasted chicken which had good flavor but was exceptionally dry. The dish was nicely presented, but the dryness made the entree forgettable. I ordered the Gulf Shrimp over grits. While the flavor again was good, the dish was covered with red grease presumably from the sausage found in the dish. This grease was something I would expect to see on a Domino's pizza, not in a nice restaurant in downtown Houston."

"The food was wonderful, the wait staff was there attending your needs before you even thought to ask, however it was a very loud venue. Most of the loud noise was coming from the bar area. It is sad they can't separate the bar area from the dining area. I would highly recommend the parchment fish ...."

"Food was very good, great view of downtown. Only criticism, our waiter mis-heard my wifes wine order, she sent the wrong wine back. Then when taking our food order he said he would have to write her order down. It's always disappointing when a lovely restaurant with a great location can be diminished by a snarky waiter."
