Located in Roanoke, a charming, historic rural community in northeast Indiana (15 minutes from Ft. Wayne, 1.5 hours north of Indianapolis and 3 hours east of Chicago), Joseph Decuis is the showcase for local farm raised food, and is a gourmet experience to remember. Our menu features seasonal dishes with ingredients raised on our farm (and other like minded farms), creatively and artfully prepared by our Chefs. The heart of the restaurant is housed in an old bank building (the vaults are now wine cellars) where you’ll feel as though you’ve stepped back in time to a simpler way of life where time around the table meant something. You’ll enjoy a top-quality meal in quiet, comfortable surroundings with outstanding hospitality.
"We made a reservation for an anniversary celebration and were seated in a main dining room, but across from the bar. Three couples arrived shortly after we were seated and proceeded to spend the evening drinking and generally being obnoxious. Their behavior might have been fine in a tavern, but certainly not at a fine dining establishment. I'm not sure what the wait staff could have done, but an invitation to move to a quieter table would have been appreciated. I regret now that we did not ask to be moved."

"We have been looking forward to an evening here and truly enjoyed our dining experience. The service is outstanding. Friendly and gracious.
A group next to us was having a "really good time", so it was very difficult for us to carry on a normal conversation---however, it did not ruin our evening at this lovely restaurant.
We will definitely return."

"Our most recent dining experience at Joseph Decuis was the Mother's Day Luncheon. This restaurant is known to be a place for a special night out - anniversary, birthday, etc. Additionally, though, Joseph Decuis is a very home-like eating experience. The staff will treat you with premium care and greet you by name when you come in. They learn what you prefer to eat and drink. A typical eating experience will be a white tablecloth, multiple course dinner. But my husband and I have found it to be our preferred weeknight date spot. We sit at the bar, have a terrific cocktail, and eat what a foodie would desire. Also, the monthly Vineyard Luncheons feature cuisine from a region, for a reasonable price."

"Dinner at Joseph DeCuis is a truely memorable dining experience from the ambience to the exceptional menu selections. My besties and I treat ourselves to a relaxing, delicious meal whenever we are in the mood for a celebration, and Joseph DeCuis is one of our favorite destinations. The brussels sprouts salad and crab cakes are amazing!"

"Great dining experiences at JDs. There are a few things I would improve - like more consistent portion sizes and better training of wait staff as ours didn't tell us the correct information re: the beers they had on tap. But overall a very good dining experience. My fiancee said he had never had a better steak in his life."

"Joseph Decuis is always a delight. We live in Indianapolis and only wish we had a restaurant as inventive and consistently well done as this gem in Northeast Indiana. We love to take other friends that enjoy cooking, trying new preparations and ingredients and finding just the right wine to pair with the meal. The presentation is fun and always perfect."

"Joseph Decuis is very overrated for the price. The food is prepared well, but unfortunately takes too long coming out. 2 hours is too long to make a filet and a piece of sole which was average in quality at best. If you are going to be in the middle of nowhere you have to be very special and Joseph Decuis would never survive from a quality and service standpoint in Indianapolis or any other larger city with many fine dining options. They need to work on overall quality and service."

"Ate here with my folks after my aunt and uncle visited for their anniversary dinner. We had the morel mushrooms for an appetizer- I don't even like mushrooms, but these were AMAZING!
As for our entrees, dad and I both had the strip, which was 100% Wagyu, and from Joseph Decuis' farm. Without a doubt, it wa the best cut of beef I have ever had the pleasure of eating, and our family raises and butchers our own beef! Mom had the filet, which was Black Angus and also from a local farm.
Overall, great food, great staff, and I was impressed to see the chef interacting with return guests. We will definitely be going back!"

"Again, food perfection! This restaurant continues to be in a class of their own! The service is impeccable. This last trip, I had the Wagyu beef. I really don't think you could find a better steak. Period."

"The food is a bit pricy, but the flavors were real and interesting. I had a filet from herd #1 50% Wagu & Angus, it was small ~ 7oz with a very good flavor, but not as tender as I expected, especially at $65, I have had better at $35 - $40. Over all it was a very nice evening."

"I was very happy with the whole experiences there. To have a Restaurant like Joseph Decuis is a just a wonderful thing. My Niece and Nephew where here in the USA for the first time. They came to visit from Germany and he wanted to do something really special for their 3 anniversary and had asked my help. What better place to go to spend a romantic evening. They even printed Menu cards with the names of my niece and nephew."

"My husband & I attended the wine taste at the beginning of the night. We knew that we wanted to have dinner after and made reservations through open table. The evening was relaxing and very informative! The wine representatives were very informative and then our meal after was wonderful! Laura knew the menu well. My husband had a filet and I had the scallops. Excellent meal!"

"Great food, nice service! Perfect for romantic night out or even for family outing. We had amazing lobster bisque and duck breast, great tasting food. It was like fusion with lot of eastern flavors with western and that resulted unique taste"

"Found the beef to be over rated, ordered the ribeye that came with pototoes with beans under a very small portion of sliced steak. Did not fit what I envisioned for a 55.00 steak. reminded me of a London broil. Did not come away satisfied."

"Without question, the finest dining experience in the area. One would have to travel to travel to Chicago, a three hour trip from our home, or similar large city to experience the equivalent. Superb cuisine, charming ambience, superior staff. A hidden gem."

"There was some sort of an awards ceremony going on in the banquet room and there was constant clapping which was easily heard in the bar. It was very distracting. If that room had doors they should have been shut. We were celebrating Valentines day and the constant clapping was distracting and annoying. I think this is one of the finest restaurants around but a little quietness would have made dinner much more romantic!"

"As always, the food and service was stellar. Our party of 7 shared appetizers (waitress divided these for couples sharing so each had 1/2 size on their own plate). One member of our party commented that she feels lucky at a restaurant to find one entree she really would like. At Joseph Decuis, she has trouble deciding what to order because the variety of choices are unique."

"I took my husband for his birthday. He is a steak lover and had the Wagyu beef fillet. He throughly enjoyed every bite. I had the scallops, which were amazing. I could only eat two of them, they were so large, and came with pasta in a delicious mushroom sauce. Everything from the bread to the dessert was perfect. Will be back!"

"Joseph Decuis is a very eloquent restaurant located in a setting of small town with small shops that provide a nice get away. The food is outstanding and the service is far beyond excellent. We have visited Joseph Decuis numerous times over the years and our overall experience has been outstanding each time. If your desire is to show deep appreciation to someone, then Joseph Decuis is the place."

"My husband had the filet which was amazing. I had the lobster. I had asked if this was a tail and told that the lobster was cut up and mixed in with the gnocchi. I was OK with that and assumed the vegetables were on the side. However, the dish was actually everything together with a soupy sauce that looked unappetizing and masked the taste of the lobster. They need to be more specific with their dinner descriptions, especially one as pricey as this. A very nice special occasion place but ask for specific descriptions of the food."

"This was our second time at Joseph Decuis and it definitely lived up to our memories of the first visit. The food was excellent (between the 6 of us, we pretty much tried most of the entrees) as well as the recommended wine/beer pairings. We sat in the bar area which is pretty laid-back and much more informal than the main dining area. While the restaurant was very busy, the noise level was still low so table conversation was easy to maintain."

"Our first time experience was well below expectations and a very poor value.
My French Onion soup tasted like vinegar but was edible, the F1 Waygu beef filet was good but far from great. Similar quaility to a chain like Applebees. They served the meat on a beg of bland mixed beans and a tiny bit of potato. My desert was so awful we had to return the product. Had the 4 glass win tasting, all red and only one of the 4 would I rate good. My wife did have a great bowl of gumbo soup and her ice tea was superb. I don't over complain at a restaurant as I accept that it was my choice to dine at the establishment but since you asked for a review I will always be honest."
