WELCOME TO A UNIQUELY “EDUCATIONAL” CULINARY EXPERIENCE.
The Midwest Culinary Institute is centered upon education, training, and a passion for the “art” in the culinary and pastry arts degree programs we offer to our students. The Summit is an extension of this vision. Your entire dining experience will be performed by well-trained students under the expert direction of our professional restaurant management team. Our staff consists entirely of Cincinnati State students, most of whom are earning college credit as a part of the “co-op” workplace training program.
We hope you enjoy this “uniquely educational” culinary dining experience. Perhaps you too might learn or experience something new about the world of great food and wine!
"Enjoyed the server. She was outstanding. Food was very good. A couple of items it seemed that the chef was overdoing it to the food... I understand it is a college setting, so I will not be too critical... the food after all was very good."

"If you want an evening of conversation along with good food and service, this would be a great choice! Many restaurants have wonderful service and great food, but, the noise level is so high you can't wait to leave. Perhaps that is done on purpose to keep turnover at a brisk pace! The Summit had lit candles on every table, table linens as opposed to glass top (or some other hard surface) which certainly helps with the noise level. The menu had a nice variety of choices and I will certainly return and also recommend it to others. The free valet service was a bonus."

"BAR: great service, limited cocktails. Should be improved as a good Rev source
FOOD: I had s steak. It was a good preparation of a lesser cut of beef. The pear and cashew salad was great. Pannecota was very good. Very good wine list.

"I thought the atmosphere was casual yet elegant. Nothing fancy. The service was good and the server well informed and answered our questions about the food. The food was just the right temperature and we both thoroughly enjoyed our selections. My lamb and side dishes were seasoned to perfection. We needed no salt or pepper. My husband had the rib-eye steak and said it was very good. Generous portion, too. We both chose the buttermilk panne cotta for desert and loved it. I would recommend The Summit to friends."

"Our experience was wonderful! Would go again in a minute! I took two of my young teen grandchildren - they had a good time and the staff helped them with all of their questions. I don't think I would take very young children there but I think for youngsters thinking about their future it is a good way to introduce them to fine restaurants. We all tried different foods and shared so that we could taste many new foods. Each of us were happy with what we ordered."

"We found the perfect place where long-time college friends could reconnect over a nice meal. We wanted a quiet place that could accommodate us at a round table for easier conversation (there were 6 of us). The Summit was perfect. None of us had been there before, and we were all delighted with our meals. The servers were particularly helpful in explaining the menu choices and wine pairings. There was no pressure to hurry with our meal, and that was appreciated. The food was excellent and most ample."

"The recent changes to the menu are exciting. I'm anxious to try them all. The guests at our table did order a variety of the new items and they all looked great."

"This is a place that more people in Cincinnati need to discover! The food was tremendous and the service couldn't have been better. The staff was very knowledgeable about wine pairings. It's a 5 star restaurant at 3-4 star prices. Go!!"

"We had a great time and the food was excellent. The Summit Perfect Manhattan was the best Manhattan I've ever had. I would return just to have another. I mad a reservation for a larger party and they were very understanding when more than half the party failed to show up. I had the charcuterie plate as a first course and it was very good and nicely presented. The dinner special red snapper had a huge portion of fish and was moist and lightly seasoned. The baby vegetables were a nice accompaniment and the balsamic sauce brought out the flavors. I was just ok with the chocolate pot de creme dessert. The raspberry flecked whipped cream on the side detracted from rather that enhanced the dish. Maybe too much butterfat in it."

"The Summit at Cincinnati State is a hidden gem. - World class food presented expertly with great attention to detail. - A focused menu that provides a broad range of tastes. - An ample selection of wines matched to menu offerings (creative cocktails too). - Great value for money. Highly recommended for those who want out of the ordinary food, superior service, and a great evening."

"The food was very good. As far as a special occasion, i'd consider it the place to impress your date. most likely i would not go back , just because i don't like spending a large amount of money for dinner. remember, this is just my opinion. i just don't like going to any restaurant that is expensive."

"The restaurant was nicely decorated but was cold and there was no music so, it felt weird even though the service was excellent and the food was great. There was no ambiance!"

"The food and service were fantastic. I saw that some other reviewers said the service was slow, but we didn't find that to be the case at all.
We went on Valentine's Day and there was a special Prix Fix menu that included 3 courses and was $45 - really a very good price considering the quality of the food."

"I wanted try this restaurant and was pleasantly surprised. The entrees were unusual and deliciously presented. It was interesting to experience the dining with the new chefs preparing our dinners. I think the school is preparing a great new set of chefs."

"We enjoyed our dinner! We started out with the Grilled Quail, which was phenomenal! We also shared the beat salad (good) and the Charcuterie Plate (just okay). My husband especially enjoyed the Cowboy Ribeye (on special that night). I got the Vietnamese Sea Bass because I LOVE Vietnamese Pho, and the fish was wonderful and tender, but the soup was not necessarily authentic Pho (inspired maybe). We left wishing one of us had gotten the lamb because it sounded really good too, so we will definitely order that next time. The lemon dessert was a perfect ending...light, not too sweet but still very satisfying. We'll be back!"

"I would recommend going to the restuarant late in the semester when the kitchen staff has gotten used to the routine of the kitchen. The best part of our diner was the potato leek soup and the beet salad. Unfortunately, we waited an hour for the first course and subsequent courses. I believe this was due to the newness of the kitchen staff and the party of 9 that was seated moments before us.It is important to know our server apologized multiple times, brought us soup and compted one of our desserts."

"This is a hidden gem of the the menu choices are a bit le Cincinnati dining scene. A most pleasant, calm and relaxing atmosphere with class A food and service. While the menu choices are a bit limited, the selections are well chosen by the chef and represent diverse menu offerings with excellent suggestions for wine pairings. Quality of food, preparation and presentation were extremely high. If you have not dined at the Summit, you have missed a culinary treat."
