This intimate restaurant, led by chef Jason Knibb and pastry chef Esteban Acosta, offers the perfect combination of sophistication and casual elegance and an ideal location along La Jolla’s Prospect Street. Enjoy the best of the harvest from local artisan farmers, where produce is selected daily for the restaurant’s Evolving California Cuisine. The bounty of the sea is also featured with local fish selections and items arriving daily from Hawaii and the North Pacific and Atlantic regions. "We go to Nine Ten for Sunday brunch regularly. The service is attentive, and the food comes out quickly. The hardest thing about brunch is choosing which of the menu items I will have. My regular is their great huevos rancheros, but sometimes I am seduced by the Nine Ten omelet, or their brioche french toast. We also like the quieter atmosphere. Except for holidays, we can get in there without a wait; Don't tell anyone else how great this is - we might have to start making reservations for Sunday morning."

Peas were the order of the night - every dish (not dessert) had peas multiple ways, including pea tendrils. We enjoyed it so much & it was only 2 blocks from our hotel, we went back again Sat. nite."

"The food was marvelous and moderately priced, but our waiter was either not quite well trained or just distracted. When we arrived, he asked if we had eaten there before and we responded that it was our first time. When we got up to leave after lunch, he said, "nice to see you again". My son was treating me for a special occasion; although he handed the waiter his credit card, the waiter handed me the bill, which annoyed my son because he was treating and didn't want me to see the total.
I passed the bill to my son, then the waiter handed me a pen, asked me to fill out a survey card, and stood over me expectantly until I picked it up. I felt he was a bit pushy and awkward. Not a great representative for your establishment."

"Very expensive for what you get. for $33. you expect more than a few bites of fish and one Brussels sprout cut in half. For $9. you'd like more than a tiny cup with 3 bites of dessert. Our group of 6 spent hundreds of dollars on appetizers, entrees, drinks and dessert, and we all left hungry. When we mentioned this, the staff told us that everyone else in the restaurant knows that they are known for their small plates. I love small plates as in tapas, so you can try many different items. At $30.+ per entree, these small plates are not tapas. They are a rip-off."

"My wife and I and another couple recently went to Nine-Ten to celebrate the wives birthdays (one was that night and one was the next day). I made a reservation more than a month in advance, advising the restaurant that we were celebrating the wives' birthdays. When we arrived, we were seated in the back of the restaurant right next to the kitchen, certainly not a favored table. Why would management do that when there were several open tables in significantly better locations? Additionally, although we were right next to the kitchen, all four meals were served "dried out" - as if they had been sitting under a heat lamp for an extended period of time. On the other hand, they did present the women with signed birthday cards, a nice touch."

We were in SD for vacation & had the "Mercy of the Chef" five-course tasting menu, and can say unreservedly that it was one of the two or three best tasting menus we've ever had. Not only was everything spot-on, but they brought entirely different courses for me and my husband, complete with separate wine pairings. Some special standouts were the scallops (better than anything we've had in Boston) and the lamb. I can't recommend Nine-Ten strongly enough - we will absolutely be back the next time we're in SD, and will recommend it to anyone traveling there."

"I love going to this place. Love the bar and sitting area outside. I definitely keep coming back to try more dishes. Very unique ingredients that you wouldn't think would go together, tasted amazing. Service was great down to the valet."

"often chefs attempt to develop an originality in their dishes that ultimately make them unappealing. Such was our experience at Nine-Ten. This was true especially for his desserts which were all unappealing. We have been here many times, but I will be reluctant to return in the future. I would recommend this for the younger crowd whose gastrointestinal tract can handle this type of food."

"My first trip to La Jolla and Nine-Ten Restaurant was a fantastic experience!! We celebrated Valentine's Day with dinner at Nine-Ten and their 4 course meal with wine pairings, and everything was AMAZING. Our server was extremely knowledgeable with both the meal and pairings, the food was spectacular, and the environment was very enjoyable. I definitely recommend this restaurant."

"My husband and I received a gift card and we decided to celebrate Valentines Day early with a nice dinner. We were very impressed from the minute we turned our car over to valet. The valet attendant was very complimentary of us which made us feel very welcome and of course we very much appreciated him taking the time. Once inside we really enjoyed the ambiance and decor. The waitress was very friendly and took the time to explain the menu. She provided very excellent customer service."

"I was in town for the weekend and wanted to have a nice dinner. I found nine-ten through Sunset Magazine and could not have been happier. The food was out of this world! I am a very well traveled foodie and I would not hesitate to recommend this restaurant. My date and I opted for the five course Chef's selection menu and it was to die for. I wished I had returned there for my second night's meal. I will definitely go back next chance I get."

"Fantastic dining experience. The food was excellent. This is in our top 5 best dinners ever. We highly recommend Nine Ten. There were so many appetizers that we wanted to try and couldn't decide. We ended up doing the 3 course meal with wine pairings. The pairings were fun, my tuna tartare came with this yummy sweet bubbly champagne. The wines were carefully selected to compliment each dish perfectly. Each dish was expertly prepared and not only tasted amazing but looked beautiful on the plate as well. Pricey but definitely worth it."

"AWESOME!!! I cannot explain how much I loved this restaurant. The service, from the hosts, to the busboys, to the waitress...friendly, knowledgable and attentive. The wine list was extensive, but meets many price points with great options. Every bite of food we had was above and beyond our expectations. My husband and I wanted a nice dinner while vacationing, we got one of the best dinners we have had in years. The grilled octopus appetizer and the crab and shrimp salad were superb. The lamb loin and scallops entree's were perfectly prepared and full of flavor. I wish we lived closer! Great experience all around...."

"Nine Ten is on our list again! We had not gone back to this lovely small restaurant inside La Valencia Hotel for a while and decided to go with some friends who had never been there before.
The service was top notch and the food was delicious. We ordered the braised short ribs, the chicken, the steak, the scallops and the Miso fish which was my favorite. It was flaky and melted in your mouth.
We also enjoyed some great desserts. The only thing I didn't care about were the cocktails but they have a good wine selection. I will definitely go back and sit outside if they still have that option, since they are right by the ocean."
