"Mastro's is a wonderful place to celebrate a special occasion. The portions are generous and the quality of the food is top notch. The service was fanastic! Our server was around when he needed to be and timed everything perfectly so that we had a lovely spaced out meal. I would highly recommend the filet mignon and the fillet of sole. Leave room for dessert and make sure you try the butter cake, it was one of the best desserts I have had in a long time."

"Mastro's Ocean Club was wonderful. The service was prompt but not rushed. The food was excellent. Spendy, but expected for the total package. If you are dining for a special occasion, advise your waiter and you may experience a wonderful Chocolate Sin cake. My husband ordered the NY strip, I had the Lobster tails. Both prepared to perfection. We also had a side of Roasted Brussel sprouts and the Sautéed Scallops for an appetizer. Excellently made - across the board. The breads were great. We saw many folks taking home 'doggy bags". We were totally stuffed and content when we left. The view of the ocean added to the ambience. Reservations a must. $250 for all bove including a bottle of wine and well deserved tip! Impressive experience!"

"We had to wait over an hour for our table that was obviously already reserved through Open Table.That is a REALLY long time. The restaurant did give us a complimentary seafood platter to apologize,which was commendable.

"We were celebrating our 27th wedding anniversary and spent the night at nearby, Pelican Hill Resort. We had reserved a window/ocean view table and were seated promptly. Our waitress was very helpful in her suggestions and answering our questions. We had an appetizer, split a salad (at our waitress' suggestion), and our entrees with sides. Yes, this is an expensive restaurant, but they serve generous portions. We were even given a complimentary, full-portion dessert for our anniversary! To say we left full is an understatement.
If my husband had any complaints, it's that he assumed he had to "dress-up" (slacks & shirt), and noticed several men in shorts and flip-flops...oh well...."

"Service was terrible- just about ignored and had to beg for a drink. Great food- wonderful restuarant. Server was horrible- on 5-15-13- The problem is I have been with Open table for a long time- I noticed we are not treated as nice as NON- open table guests and never get a good table location. It seems the restuarants don't like Open table because they have to pay for it. Open table guests get bad table locations and treated poorly. Just saying.... Try it yourself- call restuarant for reservations and see how you are treated- then use Open table"

"Mastro's was the perfect setting for 2013 Mother's Day. The service was great. The food was fantastic; from the pretzel bread to the seafood and steak, spinach, garlic mashed potatoes to the dessert of Warm Butter Cake. I do believe this restaurant "can" be kid friendly if you go early enough (like we did). However, there is no kids menu that we were told about. It is a very pricey restaurant but well worth it. Normally, I would say adults only but on special occasions I think children will find plenty of things to enjoy. Our 9 year old did!"

"Absoutely gorgeous room, terrific service from server and support staff (bussers), truly excellent food.
Very noisy room - really, really noisy. Even though the floor is carpeting with very thin industrial carpeting, the ceiling is wood and low -- so noise just blasts across the room.
Shouting to my fellow diners really did detract from the overall experience which, in all other ways, was truly superior!"

"My husband and I celebrated his 70th birthday at Mastro's Ocean Club. It is a beautiful restaurant and we had a lovely table next to a window overlooking the ocean. My husband must have a low sodium, no sodium meal which can be challenging dining out. Our servers were very helpful, cheerful and attentive without intruding.The kitchen was most accomodating. We enjoyed a lovely chilean sea bass and a filet mignon as well as green beans with toasted almonds--all very tasty with no salt. I had mentioned in my reservation that this was a special birthday and we were surprised with chocolate dipped strawberries and whipped cream with happy 70th birthday written around the edge of the plate. A very nice touch and end to a special meal."

"Mastro's was excellent as usual. The seafood tower always makes a great impression on new customers and the seafood is excellent. The large shrimp, oysters, mussels, crab and lobster are tough to beat. Steaks were very good (although not the best I've had) and so were the scalloped potatoes. We usually have the lobster mash which is excellent, but tried the scalloped this time and found another winner. The signature butter cake was also excellent. The wines were generally good, but most are 2010's and still a little young. Also had live music (piano player and singer) which were a very nice touch. Also at the right sound level so you can have reasonable conversations. An excellent choice for a business dinner or treat your spouse."

"We had an early res (before 6PM) to celebrate an anniversary on a recent Friday night. The restaurant was quiet when we first arrived but filled in nicely as the evening went on. The place had a nice energy and from where we were seated in the solarium, we were afforded excellent views of the ocean and sunset. The food was of the high quality you would expect at an establishment such as this (very fresh and bountiful seafood and tender steaks) but it was our servers, Mark and Katie were the highlight of the evening. They provided phenomenal service and were very knowledgeable about food prep, sourcing of ingredients and wine selections. They made us feel very welcome and recognized our anniversary with a customized plate of butter cake."

"I made a note it was our one year anniversary. They made it truly special. Although when we were seated they were going to put us in the main dining room so we had to ask for a more private table and the receptionist didnt seem to mind. They found us a great table by the window. They also made sure we had the world famous Butter cake which will absolutely Rock your soul! They even wrote "Happy Anniversary" on the plate in Chocolate. Everyone was so helpful and polite. The Waiter suggested a better option for my wife's entree, I think he must've read her mind because it was perfect! Lastly even the bread guy made sure we had some great bread to take with us. If you've ever had a baguette in France, this bread tops that! Cheers Mastro's"

"Start with the Seafood Tower, enjoy the grilled Nova Scotia Lobster, Bone-In Filet, Lobster Mashed Potatoes and end with the Mastro's Butter Cake, and you will not go wrong. We had a large group, yet the service and timing was flawless. We ordered from the full menu, and the management and staff took care of our every whim. The phone call follow-up the next day was a nice touch."

"I normally don't write reviews but felt compelled to in the case of Mastro's OC. I was out in the area for a work conference and went to Mastro's with my wife and a business associate. We had a great table with a view of the ocean. We all had bone-in filets and they were cooked to perfection - 2 medium rares & 1 rare plus. Our server also suggested adding on a jumbo prawn to each of our orders and we were not disappointed! The wine list was exceptional and were very happy with our selection. After dinner, we went to the bar for an after dinner drink and Jay was great! Try the Manhattan!! The next morning I received a call from Mastro's thanking us for joining them for dinner - nice touch!"

"My wife and I made reservations at Mastro's Ocean Club on the occasion of our wedding anniversary. From the moment we arrived we received 5-star treatment. The host who seated us made a last-minute adjustment when we asked for a different table. Our server and his team were just outstanding. Personable yet professional. Mastro's is pricey, but in our opinion worth every penny. The food was outstanding (we both said our respective fish entrees were the best we had ever had) and the pace of service was perfect. We will definitely return, whether it's for a special occasion or for no reason at all except to enjoy outstanding food and exceptional service."

"i found the entire experience very disappointing - we had a reservation and the table location was very mediocre - probably becuase we had our 2 children with us. the waiter was very good i must say - friendly and professional. The food was a real disappointment - and the presentation is almost alarming when you get a large white plate with one small item on it - granted they come around and add the sides but it just presents an advertisement very boldly of "A LA CARTE". My family loves to "dine" and my kids have been doing it since they were little and this would not at all be one of out keep on the list locations...drive down the street and enjoy The Grill at Pelican for less money, more ambiance and all over a more satisfying experience"

"We had a very positive experience. We had never been to Mastro before and found it by looking for rack of lamb in Orange County(it was what the birthday boy wanted). Everything was fantastic! The food was great, steaks cooked perfectly, beautiful ocean view and the service was very good. The prices are pretty high, but definitely worth it for a special occasion. We definitely will return to dine again."
