"Chef Paul Rogalski and his staff excel at providing their guests with a first class and spectacular dining experience. We decided on the Chef's Tasting Menu with the standard pairings. Six courses and wine pairings for each course, each plate was a complete surprise and resulted in my girlfriend and I looking at each other saying "WOW" with each bite. The wine pairings were perfect. The presentation and service was impeccable.

"I had high expectations for Rouge, but it did not live up to the buzz. The lamb lacked flavour and the dessert was minimal and poorly presented. I am not sure if I would return. The great service and wine list were the only redeeming qualities."

"We loved rouge last time we went, and this time was great too. We had a beef strip loin that was slowly cooked sous vide? and then finished to make it extra tender and unfortunately it was tough and hard to eat, we told our waitress and she handled it exactly the way she should have. Later on the general manager came by to check on us and explain what had happened. Again exceptional service
We will definitely go back and look forward to the flavours and service"

"We enjoyed a lovely evening at Rouge. Putting ourselves in the chef's hands, we ordered the chef's table. Six courses, paired with lovely wines and a few surprise "amuse-bouches" thrown in. Each plate was delightful and perfectly portioned. The wine pairings were outstanding. The service was top notch, attentive without being intrusive."

"Had a wonderful meal with an out of town guest and two colleagues on Wednesday evening. The quality at rouge is simply outstanding - wonderful food, great service, a lovely feel to the place. Its like the comfort of dining in your own home (assuming you could create food this wonderful), but without the fuss of preparing food or cleaning up! I have been here often and it never disappoints."

"A very special restaurant. We had the Chef's selection as recommended by others along with the wine pairings. A unique experience for us.
The most expensive dinner ever for us, but totally unique and memorable. It's worth saving up for.

"I have been here a few times and had a great experience. We went for an anniversary as it is a bit expensive for us on regular basis. We had the chef's tasting menu which never disappoints. The staff here is great, they go way above and beyond. I've been to many of the other high end restaurants in Calgary and can say hands down rouge has the best food, service and ambiance of all. Can't wait to save up and go back!"

"We had the Chef Tasting Menu and we were not impressed at all. The food was just ok and for the price that was being paid we were expecting to be really blown away. We've been to restaurants which serve far better food for a reasonable price. The food was never worth $110 per person, and the portions were extremely small, although is meant to be 6 dishes the only reason you loose your hunger is because they are spaced out quite far (around 25 min per plate)."

"We had an excellent time and felt extra cared for. With a combination of pregnancy and allergies, I worried that the tasting menu wouldn't be possible but the chef was so supportive and what I got was a specially prepared tasting menu just for me! Our server also paired an excellent wine for my husband and made sure that the pace of dishes matched our relaxed evening. I had mentioned on the reservation that I was celebrating my birthday and there was a birthday card waiting at my table and our server made sure to wish me a happy birthday as well. We will have to come back to try the tasting menu with wine pairing - we could overhear some tables near us really enjoying their selections and wine conversations with the sommelier."

"Spent the better part of 3+ hours having a relaxing dinner with a friend. Had the chiefs selection and premium wine matching. The service was perfect for our needs, friendly and appropriately attentive. We had a great table location just in front of the window giving what felt like a very private experience even though the restaurant was reasonably busy as the night went on. The food was all what you would expect at a premium French themed restaurant as was the wine selection. It is a priced accordingly for a premium restaurant. I truly enjoyed the experience and will definitely return."

"My spouse and I went to Rouge to celebrate our 5 year anniversary and the experience was fantastic! From the interior decoration to the divine food through a great service, every aspect of our evening was a bliss.

There was nothing in the main course selection that appealed to me. So I ordered a soup and salad. My salad, roasted beet and goat cheese was boring, tasteless and tiny. The consomme; duck, with two tortellini,tiny pickled crimini mushrooms and daikon,(although there was not a hint of daikon and I had to ask for the server for some, three tiny pieces did show up eventually) with consomme poured over, she poured just over half and left with the rest. My husband had the pheasant, two little escallops, and one bean cut in half and half a brussel sprout. The best thing was the martini. We will not be going back. Nice walls, needs more art. Main server was good, some were rude."

"This restaurant is in a two storey house. The food tastes good but the portions are a bit small. There is a seperate seating area upstairs which would be ok for groups. The service was bit slow as we waiting for over 10 mins for our waiter to greet us. We had scallops which were very tender. Complimentary taster of smoked duck. "Rouge is a very good restaurant, but not outstanding.
Don't get me wrong, we enjoyed our dinner, but the expectation was that it would be outstanding due to the reviews and accolades it has received.
It is also very expensive and dare I say overpriced for the content.
We shared the seared scallops and the egg yolk ravioli to start. $20 got us two tiny scallops, that were quite good. $16 for a single (although large) piece of ravioli which was average.
For our mains we had the prime beef striploin and also the lamb. Both were good, but no "wow" factor. Also, for $40, I expect more then just 3 small pieces of beef. I left this restaurant feeling slightly ripped-off and hungry.

"Rouge apparently is a historical site, and it seems like a pretty cool older house. It is a quiet place to enjoy a special dinner. I was expecting a bunch of snobbish people to be dining, but most people sounded fairly down to earth.
We ordered the chef's choice 5 course meal. Each meal item was described in detail by the server as it was delivered. There were one or two that did not meet our taste, although they were well prepared. The courses were delicious and satisfying.
It was an expensive dining experience, so will save this place for special occasions. Our bill for 2 people with 1 glass of wine came to about $250 plus tip."

"Had dinner with a group of four on a Thursday night. I always love the ambiance of the small rooms at Rouge - its like being in someone's living room. As I have come to expect from previous visits, the food was fabulous. Rich, intense flavours that match & complement beautifully. Full plates are put together with wonderful combinations that are as good to look at as they are to eat. I had worried that with Rouge Bistro opening recently, that Rouge the Restaurant might have wanted for attention. Well, I needn't have worried. Our evening was as good or better than any others I have had at this fantastic restaurant. Highly recommended."

"The food was incredible. It was apparent that they used only high quality ingredients. The only thing to be aware of is that the cost is quite high because of the overall experience, and the quality, not the portion sizes. My husband left still hungry, but I was satisfied."

"On recently had the great privilege of dining in this restaurant, and not knowing what to expect, I have to say that I was in absolute awe of the quality and presentation of the food. I have dined in many "French" restaurants in my day, and I have to say that this is, without a doubt, the finest establishment that I have ever had the opportunity to dine in.

"Rouge was fantastic! The food was delicious and the service was incredible. More specifically our server was incredible; she was knowledgeable, friendly and very polite (and it was her first day, we were her first table!). The ambiance in the restaurant was excellent, the only problem was that a rowdy table or two that kind of ruined it - and made it hard to speak with our server at times. Rouge really focuses on the details, before I went to rouge I hadn't been to such an upscale restaurant so I wasn't sure what to expect. As a simple example: the candle on our table went out and it was immediately replaced. Their wine and beer lists are extensive, my spouse was quite impressed with the wine pairing."

"We opted for a la carte instead of the blind tasting menu, only as I am vegetarian. The server gave us the sense that had we dined on a weekday, they would have been happy to accommodate, if we called ahead. Not having tried the tasting menu, we can't comment on the food as fully as others, but the server's recommendations were very good and well received.
The servers were friendly, polite, and knowledgeable, but some had some misses of attention (drink taken, not refilled, short of wine lists for neighbouring tables and took too long to find). These were simple things, and didn't detract from the meal (I had ample water) but were noticed. Table changeovers were very unobtrusive which is a skill.
Would certainly return."

"Rouge was a great experience from the beginning. The restaurant called to confirm, was prepared when we arrived and was welcoming from the start. The building is beautiful inside and we were sitting by a beautiful candlelit fireplace by the doors to the amazing garden. The room waz cozy and not too noisy due to the seperation from other dining spaces. Our waitress was friendly and knowledgeable. She easily offered opinions on dishes and showed her knowledge of the food with each course. The portions looked small at first but I was quite full by the end of the meal and each bite was delicious. The seared scallop starter, the striploin and the fish were particularly delicious. Everything was cooked to perfection."

"Set in an old home with great ambience. Dining rooms were not crowded so it was quiet, could talk at a normal level and be heard by table mates. Service was good. Limited wine list if you wanted to order by the 1/2 bottle or glass and did not want a wine from California. My husband started with scallops which he said were great. My salad was excellent as well, I just would have liked more. The Arctic char for my husband was good but very rich. My mushroom gnocchi was very good, but also very small. It was served with some vegetables and in total there were six, count 'em six! At first I thought I'd still be hungry when I was done, but the meal was so rich and heavy in butter that I was full. Next time I'd prefer more gnocchi and less butter"
