"Quallity was certainly of the "hotel varity". Although not bad, it certainly was not of a caliper which it bils its self as nor based on the prices it asks for. Far better options out there. Meat was obviously older, dishes were bland as opposed to innovative and desert was from room service. Wine list was extremely sub par. Service was attentive well timed and extremely polite ala Ritz. I will neither return nor recommend. Luce has no character or mission that I could decern other than suffering from the logical flaw of expensive, so it must be good. Price is not a crutch to hide lack of interest in craft, talent or quality."

"The appetizers were wonderful. Tasty, nicely presented, good balance and quite creative dishes. Entrees not so much. We got the squab and the venison. The venison was a on the dry side. And the flavors simply weren't as appealing. The squab was way too salty. Dessert was good but a bit small. Service ok. The waiter was pretty good, but as soon as you ask him a question he'll start going on and on. Overall it would have been a nice experience at a lower price point, but at the prices they're asking, things should have been close to impeccable."

"Really amazing food, lovely service but the restaurant vibe is too hotel, not intimate. What a shame--this place could be a big hit if the dining room had been designed better--it's elegant, but institutional--hence just two stars for ambiance."

"Luce is good but not perfect. Amuse was a perfect piece of poached lobster in veloute with pear. Then I had a squid ink pasta "carbonara" with pancetta, eggs, baby squid. The sauce was rich and wonderful but the squid was flavorless and unseasoned, although very tender. Main course I had a plate of venison, beets, bulgur, various coffee-infused sauces. The dish was very much undersauced (just a few little spoonfuls), the venison was a bit off in terms of moistness and temperature (it should have been much juicier _and_ warmer). The bulgur was unevenly cooked, bland, some bits were dry and hard. Dessert was a fromage blanc cheesecake; fine but not mind-blowing ... kinda standard. Luce can do a lot better; it's not worth the price."

"Had the chef's tasting menu this past weekend with 3 friends. Some great combinations of food (the lobster w/ foie gras surf & turf dish was a favorite) but one issue was the overwhelming use of foam on most of the courses. While foam can be an interesting note to add aroma to a dish, the fact remains a majority of the dishes had a foam of some type thereby decreasing the overall impact of the dish. Even the servers overheard our comment on the persistent use of foam and quietly agreed."

"The tasting menu was very inventive and the chef did an excellent job of carrying themes and flavors from one dish to the next by repeating an ingredient, phasing it out, then repeating another ingredient, herb or spice as the meal progressed. I particularly enjoyed the celery sorbet with apple crisps, the savory, sweet, icy combination was unique and delicious. Another course included poached lobster, Israeli couscous, foie gras and an uni foam - all the greatest hits in one dish that was marvelous."

"Wow. How do I begin my amazing experience at Luce?! The food is cooked to perfection and seasoned spectacularly, no two dish are alike and everything that was at our table that night was incredible. The wine selection is great and not overbearing, as is the cocktail list which a great mixologist makes at the bar, delicious recipes and takes on the usual suspects.

To add to this amazing experience, Justin our waiter needs to train everybody in this world on how to properly treat each customer. He is the best waiter that I've ever had, from manners to attentiveness... I can't rave enough about our experience. Luce just earned their first Michelin star in October, I'm curious as to why they didn't get 2! Don't hesitate and go to Luce now!"

"One beautiful course after another of playful pairings of flavors expertly combined. The roasted marrow with garlic and capers was dazzling, the buttery and smokey taste of the marrow was paired nicely with the saltiness of the capers and the tangy earthiness of the garlic. The grouper with lobster bisque, sauteed prawns, and winter greens mixed together to make a rich bouillabaisse that had the best young octopus I have tasted -- sous vide tender with a grilled smokey flavor. The grouper's skin could have been crisper. The noisette dessert displayed creativity with the classic chocolate/hazelnut pairing by playing with textures of hazelnut clouds, nutella kisses, and a vanilla mousse. Service was excellent and friendly."

"Service needs improving, both in terms of poor attitude and basic knowledge. Service staff pored us wrong wine for the wine-pairing. After the dinner, I asked the sommelier about this odd pairing; she admitted that was a mistake. It was supposed to be Pinot Noir for Fromage course, instead we had Muscat! That was fairly unforgivable for a Michelin 1-Star restaurant.
The saving grace was the food. Chef Crenn did a fantastic job of designing her signature tasting menu and executing it to perfection. She weaved her love of food and life experience into a beautiful poetry. The end result was pure joy for us. Two words summed up the food: continuity and balance. Too bad Chef Crenn’s artwork was marred by poor service."

"Great food - the best ennocis I have ever eaten. The venison was also excellent. Sparse on the vegetables. Service good but not up to the highest standards. Tables too close together. "We suggested this restaurant for friends celebrating their wedding anniversary. Luce made an effort to make it special with complimentary gruppa with dessert. Our friend's didn't like the dry sparkling wine they choose and the restaurant manager was willing to recommend another type at no extra charge. Food was very good but I thought portions a bit small for the price. Definitely a place for special occasion for some."

"While I thought the food was beautifully presented, it did not quite live up to my expectations based on other reviews and accolades. However, what did irritate me extremely was the lack of any support or help in choosing a wine to match dinner. I have been in much less gourmet restaurants, and had a sommeiler drop by the table to offer any help or suggestion in selecting a wine. At the very least, the waitstaff should be well informed of the wine list and able to offer suggestions. At Luce, this was not the case. While we had placed our order, I was clearly struggling with the wine selection. The waiter was unable to offer any advice except to say "we have an extensive wine list." Yes, I can see that, thank you."

"Impeccably fresh produce and fish; absolutely delicious, balanced, complementary combinations of seemingly disparate ingredients in unique presentations. "Went to Luce with high expectaions based on it getting a Michelin Star. The restaurant is very noisy and converstaion was difficult The food was very good but the service we received was very poor. "The food was great but the overall dining experience was terrible. Something went wrong with every course. We started out with cocktails but the one they brought for me was wrong. They served the first course then suddenly took my dining partners course away because it were missing one of the ingredients. We ordered a bottle of wine to go with our main course, the food arrived but no wine. We were then informed they "couldn't find" the bottle of wine we ordered then had the gall to suggest another bottle that was almost double the price... meanwhile the main course was getting cold. When the bill arrived and we questioned the price we were charged for the cocktails there was a very complicated explanation for why we were overcharged."

"Went as part of Dine About Town. Ambience is great; beautiful room, outstanding linen and table ware. The waiter was attentive and informative and personable. Went with 6 other people and we were seated at a large round table making the conversation easy. The noise level in the room was low making an enjoyable experience. I had the beet salad for starter which was fantastic and fresh. The others had the raw fish; I found it to be completely lacking in taste and texture. For the main course I had the beef tenderloin and I have to say, it was probably the best beef I've had anywhere. It was perfectly cooked and seasoned. We later learned it is prepared in duck fat and simmered at a low temperature. The desserts were average."

"Everything went as one would expect at a high-end restaurant. The food was outstanding: creative, beautifully presented, and most importantly, actually tasted good. "Maybe my expectations were too high since Luce was awarded a Michelin star, but I was somewhat disappointed in general. The decor is kind of generic hotel, nothing special. The music was inappropriate (some sort of bad jazz)and too loud. The waiter started off ok, but seemed turned off when we ordered a half bottle of wine for 2 drinkers instead of a full bottle, we just didn't feel like drinking more than a glass each. My food was generally a little too salty, the dessert was a very small portion."

"We had the dine about town menu and the food was just OK. The appetizer and the dessert were just so-so. The fish crudo "sashimi-like" appetizer was so bland and the alond cake and peach sorbet was nothing special to write home about. The entree was nice: beef tenderloin with poach egg. But my girlfriend's beef was too rare. Seems a bit inconsistent in their cooking. Portions in general are very small. I was still hungry after a 3 course meal..."

"The worst service I ever had. I went there alone and it's possible some kind of single discrimination that no bread is served until I asked. "My husband, daughter, and I went here as part of Dine About Town; this was our first visit. We all had the same entree--the pork cheeks and pork belly--which was excellent. The kampachi starter was delicious, featuring buttery-textured fish, but needed more of the yuzu "pudding". The beet salad was good, but not outstanding. Likewise, the chocolate duo was good, but nothing special; the hazelnut cake was probably the better choice. An excellent value for the price, but I think we all expected to be wowed more, given the 1-star status of this restaurant."

"Great quality ingredients and the food is cooked well. However, even with the 3-course recession-priced lunch, their menu had no "wow" factor in it. Taste is above average, but food preparation on their lunch menu just doesn't stand out. It's boring and overused--a provision of popular sandwiches that doesn't offer Luce a unique brand to its name. You pay a premium for the service and quality of food, but is it worth the extra $ for sandwich items you can get much less elsewhere?"

"A disappointment when I dined there last Friday, from the moment of arriving thru paying the bill. The services were bad! We felt being rushed the whole time we were there & were interrupted so many times during our convos, even though the dining room was pretty quiet that evening! A lady who dined alone & was sitting next to us told us that it was her b-day that day, we politely told the restaurant about it, the waiter shrugged his shoulder, & did nothing! That was so rude! When the bill came, we didn't even get any complimentary chocolates ! We told our waiter that we weren't meat-eaters & that we wouldn't eat meat, but he still served us beef/pork !"

"We had the winter tasting menu with the wine pairing. Every dish was very nicely prepared and delicious. The celery sorbet (Herbs Garden), venison (Wilderness), and the lobster with foie gras (Sea) were especially good. The wine pairings were also excellent. The service was good overall. The staff was very friendly and professional all around. Our server took a few courses to settle in, once he got going, it was smooth sailing. We were there for almost 4 hours and we had a great dining experience."

"Had the tasting menu - ten amazing courses for $85. Mind-blowing quality on everything, except for the bread course, which is fine since then you don't fill up on bread before enjoying your meal. "We went there to celebrate a birthday recently. The foods were fantastic, it's wasn't Jean Georges but it was up there. The foods were exquisite and creative. We had the venison and the fish of the day, they were cooked very well and delicious as expected from a Michelin Star restaurant. I loved the white coffee espresso foam/source and I thought it was creative and refreshing when served with the venison and even vegetables. Overall, the foods and services were top rated. "The food was not as good as expected given the Michelin one star rating, we had been quite excited about going to the restaurant. Lovely setting and the waiters were quite good. However we were disappointed about the quality of the food that evening. We had the sea bass special which tasted flat and the pork dish was simply ok. Tried the bone marrow appetizer, totally overrated by the waiter, Boulevard has a much better equivalent. But the most painful was how long it took between each course, the pace was unpleasant despite having brought our own bottle of Kistler Pinot Noir (which was the most delightful part of the evening). It was supposed to be a special evening for us but possibly the restaurant was off due to post Christmas?"

"Food was excellent but our server was truly a disappointment, & definitely affected our overall experience. He was not knowledgeable about the dishes served, e.g., when I asked what was in the winter vegetable dish, his response was "Oh, you know, potatoes & things; whatever winter vegetables we get." He told the table next to us that the goat cheese was brie, he told us the ice cream was coconut (which it was not); then I overheard another server describe it as passion fruit (which it was). We asked about the wine pairings & were told that what they "might be", unless he decided to override the wine director's selections, "just because he could". This restaurant would have never received the Michelin star if served by this person."

"As it should be, the food is the star attraction. Chef Dominique is a major talent providing a French twist to the Tuscan/California menu. Squid ink pasta and squid with pancetta was TDF. The squab and suckling pig entrees were nothing short of awesome. A huge plus is the wine list with a comprehensive and unpretentious variety of international food-friendly wines, over 95% priced in double digits, with over half of those less than $65"

"It's a pleasant enough place and easy parking at the nearby garage, but otherwise not worth the trip. The $20 lunch special is a good deal -- the portions are lunch sized, so you get a nice 3-course meal without getting stuffed. The service left something to be desired, and it was tacky for the waiter to offer a refill on the lemonade/iced tea and then add the charge to the bill. Wouldn't rush back."

"We had a really good time here! The portions are small but the food is excellent! Well worth it. We had a minor bit of attitude from the host when we asked her to clarify about whether or not we could open the third bottle of wine. The response was no, the attitude was not needed. However, I think she realizes we had genuinely misunderstood, because within 5 minutes she came back and said she'd open our third bottle. She didn't say sorry, but the gesture was appreciated."

"Delicious food, creatively and beautifully presented. Our party of four ordered the Kampachi, the Squid Trofiette pasta and the Sweetbread appetizers, all of which were terrific. The crunch of the shaved cauliflower was a perfect balance for the kampachi tartare, and my "foodie" world-traveling guest declared the sweetbreads to be the best he'd ever tasted anywhere. I should add that the Trofiette dish was ample enough to be ordered as a main. Particularly high marks to the Squab for being incredibly flavorful and tender --but not as gamey as I expected. Overall, the kitchen produced amazing flavors and combinations to bring out the best of each dish, rather than merely to demonstrate how avant garde a chef can be."

"We were anticipating good things after seeing good reviews and hearing the chef interviewed on radio. The food was excellent, but from the beginning there was a problem with the service. We brought a nice bottle and asked to have it opened. Our waitress disappeared and we had to flag the host down and then it took ten minutes to get some attention. No one asked if we had food aversions, as is the norm these days, and the table was not cleaned of debris. We were brought our dessert quickly at the end, and the waitress disappeared again before we could ask for tea or coffee. The service was poor enough to ruin an otherwise enjoyable meal."

"Considering the place was almost empty, the service was slow. The menu is very small, with most choices quite unsual. I had a hard time finding something that I would like and I am not THAT particular....most of it was weird! The tenderloin that I DID choose was excellent although the most expensive entree on the menu! That night at least, the place was dead and not exciting."

"The appetizers were mostly vegetarian and we supplemented a pasta dish with calamari to supplement as a appetizer. The short ribs were excellent as was the fish special, but the suckling pig was a little mealy and dry and not much taste. However, the dessert the choco egg was delicious and high marks for presentation. The service was excellent and one member of our party was late due to traffic and the staff was accommodating and we did not feel rushed."

"The sommelier was very helpful and directed us to a new (to me) Italian red - Gries Riserva Lagrein - from Alto Adige - and it was excellent. My bronzino was good but not great; the overall taste was bland despite the bed of greens and beans on which the fish was served. My dinner guest's papparadelle with short ribs and wild mushrooms was outstanding. Very nice place overall and the wine list has a good mix of expensive and reasonable wines."

"Requested a nice table and was given the absolutely worse table in the restaurant. This is typical when the seating personnel don't know you. It's "get rid of the worse table as soon as possible" syndrome. It happens almost invariably. Desert took over 30 minutes to arrive. Cold tart and ice cream? I don't get it. Would not go back. Too many great restaurants and priced much better."

"We made a reservation for lunch on a Tuesday, but when we got to the restaurant, it was pretty empty. The staff and service were wonderful, and the food was fabulous. We had the mussels in a rich lobster broth, lentil soup with goat cheese, short ribs and spaghettini with wild mushrooms (Heavenly!!!), and ahi and branzino. The branzino presentation was especially interesting (served on a slate tile), the fish skin was incredibly crispy, and the accompanying veggies had moroccan/indian flavors that worked well with a delicately flavored fish. The ahi melted in your mouth. Deserts (custard/panna cotta-ish dishes) were smooth and bursting with flavor. Yum!! We'll definitely come back for dinner, when there may be a larger crowd."

"The atmosphere is sleek and subdued albeit in a hotel on a busy street. The food errs on the side of the overly complex and showy, but this is a personal preference thing. I probably sampled at least seven dishes, and of them, the only one that lingers in memory is the amuse bouche (oops) - and maybe the ice cream on the side of the dessert plate. The service is mysterious - we started with a waiter who was there at the beginning and end but never actually brought out our plates or checked in with us during the middle of the meal. Definitely a place one can have a very relaxed, sophisticated meal."

"After hearing so much about this restaurant, and the fact that it was recently awarded a Michelin star, I decide to invite a friend and go try it. At first glance, everything looked delightful. The ambience is simple and elegent, and we were promptly seated in a table of our choice. Unfortunely, the enchanting dining experience ends there and turns into an ordinary, and lackluster event after that. First, the service was just unacceptable for a Michelin rated restaurant. Our waiter had a less than welcoming attitude mixed with sarcasm which is never a wining combination. The food was just ordinatry and does not leave you with an impression that you are dining at a Michelin rated restaurant."

"A very nice quite hotel restaurant. The food was very good and the service was excellent. The room is the stark New York style. It is located on the ground floor of the Intercontinetal Hotel and the windows were covered with shear white drapes as the view from the windows would not be very good as the area is not very scenic at all."

"The food on this second visit was inconsistent ranging from innovative to overly salted. The service was horrid, basically non-existent. The kitchen or the servers could not get food to table in a reasonable time nor utensils to eat the food to the table at all. What a disappointment after a remarkable first meal. "The Autumn Menu, which included items from the 1 start Michelin Menu, the main reason we chose that restaurant, is highly overrated considering the $75 price. It was the blandest meal I've had this year. Pretentious food is fine - if it tastes good, otherwise it just looks good and sets you up to be let down. The best thing was the Trou Normand sorbet between courses, but it was unnecessary because the food was bland and there was no reason to need to cleanse our palate. Truly disappointing."
