Awarded a Michelin star four years consecutively, Luce features an urban setting that is modern and sophisticated, yet stunningly warm and inviting. The main dining room features floor-to-ceiling-windows adorned with sheer metallic gold curtains. Hand-blown Italian bubble-like lamps provide a flattering glow to the dark tropical wood accents and elegantly appointed tables. The globally inspired New American menu reflects the bounties from the surrounding farms of San Francisco and changes according to freshness and seasonality. Each dish is artistically created and highlights an inventive flair for marrying diverse flavors with natural organic ingredients into a gastronomic delight. An award-winning wine program, designed by Wine Steward John Wight offers a superb collection that inspires daring pairings at prices that encourage exploration.
"The food was outstanding. I went on Tuesday and the restruant was not busy. The prices were reasonable, the service was friendly and well timed.. I also met the chef."

"I was very excited to dining at Luce. Noise level was quiet because we were the only two people in the rest.. As we were leaving another couple came it. Food was not up to par for San Francisco standards. The beets in the beet salad was saturated in a vinaigarette dressing that all you could taste was the vinegar. The short rib with spaghetti was a big disappointment. The short rib was cut up in small pieces, The meat was tendered but had no taste. The broth was also tasteless. Seem like all that was used was beef broth. My friend had scallops which were plump and sweet. It was also cooked just right. What an disappointing dining experience"

"I had a three course lunch here. The velouté had a nice texture but probably could've used a little more color for the garnish. Flavor was okay. I wouldn't order this again. braised short rib spaghettini for the entree. The mushrooms in the dish were yummy. While the short rib was tender and well seasoned, I thought it would've gone better with tagliatelle instead of spaghettini. The pot de Creme was average. Bf had roasted beets (good), the salmon (good), and panna cotta (avg). Service was subpar: water not refilled; had to ask for bread basket to be taken away; after we broke a glass, a new one had to be requested, rather than automatically replaced; some utensils were missing from the table placement; and error in bill calculation"

"The restaurant is inside the Intercontinental Hotel. I wish I had known that before I made the reservation. I would have passed. While the setting was pretty and the seating comfortable, the food left a lot to be desired. I had the pork tenderloin that looked like it came out of a SPAM box before being served. The plating was beautiful yet I would trade that for flavor which was lacking. My friends ordered the Lobster and again while it was pretty plating there was only average taste and not much of a serving. My boss clearly left hungry and he had a salad before his entree."

"We went for their tasting menu using a Gilt City coupon. The meal was an absolute delight from start the finish. The wines were paired perfectly with each course and detailed explanations were given by the friendly and professional staff. I am sincerely incapable of finding even 1 flaw. This was even better than the 1st time we went there."

"We had lunch whie attending a conference at Moscone Center. It is a short walk away. They restaurant was not busy. The setting is attractive. Since we only had luch type items, it was not a great test of the kitchen. My husband had the chicken sandwich with bacon. He enjoyed it. I had a salad with chiken breast. The chicken breast was well cooked but did not have much seasoning and did not seem very grilled despite having grill marks. The salad that my husband had as a side with his sandwich seemed identical to the one I had ordered."

"Oleo ably the best meal we had in San Francisco. Wonderful ingredients, exciting menu, delicious wines and excellent service. Really well informed and charming staff. VERY good value for money. Much better than the Big Four restaurant, which was formulaic and tired. Thoroughly enjoyed our evening. It was rather noisy, but perhaps that was to be expected on Friday night, near the bar. Otherwise 10/10. Thanks"

"3rd time bringing a client here for breakfast during the Game Developers' Conference (once was unreserved). Unfortunately, was hovered over by passive-aggressively eager waiter obviously attempting to turn the table over quickly. "Checking in" with us literally every two minutes, I stood my ground and was finally allowed to eat in peace. However, when one is purchasing $100+ breakfast, one expects not to be pestered. This man is obvious and obnoxiously faux-obsequious and should not be working at Luce if he is only interested in turning tables. The food (2 eggs scrambled, bacon, much-appreciated gluten-free toast) was excellent. Luce continues to have the best bacon in SF. I'm sure the waiter will be gone next year, and thank goodness."

"We went for Sunday brunch and didn't have a great experience. Half our party ordered off the menu and half ordered the buffet. The service for those ordering off the menu was incredibly slow...it is definitely more set up for a quick trip through the buffet line. We didn't get good service in terms of refills on coffee, etc. and the food was just ok, nothing special. I wouldn't go out of my way to eat at Luce again."

"I went on the last night for the culinary clash (Brennan Price) and never have I not been able to choose a favorite dish out of the three courses. Each course was filled with extremely unique flavors that all blended together in the most perfect way. The wine pairing was elegant and delicious. The service was perfectly timed and attentive and the restaurant was simple yet elegant provided the perfect surroundings. Overall, I couldn't have asked for a better meal, night, and experience."

"Fantastic restaurant- my girlfriend and I like to find a nice restaurant to go out to every 3 months or so and we chose Luce. It was very large and open, and we were attended to very well by our server, Joe. He even took the time to learn our names and had some meaningful conversation with us.
We had appetizer, 2 entrees, and dessert. Also had the Pinot Noir- fabulous. Huge selection, high quality food that was presented beautifully and tasted amazing. We were encouraged to take our time, not rushed out.
Such a wonderful and romantic evening- and very close to Powell BART station."

"I found the restaurant a bit pretentious for the substance of the meal. The tasting menu was good but not particularly outstanding, made a bit painful by a rather slow service. I would have expected more for the price proposed: if you go, make sure you eat "a` la carte" rather than going for the tasting menu."

"I got the risotto and it was way undercooked. I'm a fan of al-dente, not frankly crunchy, on examination some of my risottos were only 1/3 cooked. It was also too salty but I was told that was because of the cheese?? Fortuntaly my starter- Sweetbread ravioli was lovely."

"Very limited menu but what they had was quite good. The su choke soup as well as the beet salad we had for appetizers were quite wonderful. Our entrees were much less special, especially my trout dish with clams. Definitely a "meh" hip from me. Our desserts were divine however completely not worth the more than 30 minute wait from the time of ordering. Had we ordered a soufflé it would have been understandable or if the restaurant was overrun with patrons the inexcusable wait would have been understandable. Neither of these were factors the night we were there. Since there are much better Michelin rated restaurants a stones throw away we'll probably not return to this uber modern, pretentious spot."

"The restaurant looks very pretty and it was quiet on a Friday night. You can enjoy a nice dinner without any noise or interruptions. The service was excellent. All the staffs were very professional and friendly.
I like their appetizer. We order the sashimi and scallops - both were very good. I ordered the lamb for entree and it was so-so. dessert was average too. But everything was nicely displace and it gave you the enjoyment just by looking at the dish.
I would recommend Luce to anyone who wants a nice dinner without worrying about noise and crowd."

"The food was definitely deserving of the Michelin star that Luce has, with interesting and delicious options for all courses. The ambiance and service are somewhat sterile--not cold or inappropriate, but not the reason that I'd return again. Given the quality of the food, the prices were pretty reasonable."

"We went there for brunch on the Sunday morning after Valentine's Day, and I was somewhat disappointed to see that it was completely empty inside.
I ordered the three-egg omelet, and my girlfriend ordered the smoked salmon benedict. Both came with potato wedges, and both were excellent. I dinged one star because their water kind of smelled like fish.
Service was very good. Our waiter was very attentive, for the most part. Only for the check did I have to flag him down.
I rate ambiance fair, but that's not quite fair, as the restaurant is part of the Intercontinental hotel lobby. Still, I expected a slightly more-romantic feel, from the pictures I saw on OpenTable."

"This review is for Valentine's Day lunch. There was no special Valentine's Day prix fixe which I actually preferred. We ordered the Warm Arugala salad with egg, Diver Scallops, and the Short Rib Speghettini. The salad was one of the best I've ever had, I was practically licking the plate after I was done with that. Diver scallops were fresh and well-prepared, cooked perfectly. The short ribs were good but pales in comparison to the salad and scallops. The service was courteous but a bit slow since it look some time for the waiter to notice that we were out of bread and water (I really needed more bread to soak up the salad) Good prices especially considering its a Michelin starred restaurant. I will return."

"Last Thursday the QS World MBA Tour was at the Intercontinental Hotel. I didn't realize that Luce was at this hotel. I checked the menu on the website and I knew what I wanted - the homemade sweetbread ravioli with crispy sweetbread. However the special that night was a 3-course meal for $36.95. I agonizingly thought if I should order a la carte from the menu or the set 3-course meal. I thought how many times I would I get to order a 3-course meal for $36.95 at a Michelin star restaurant? I decided at the end to order a la carte from the menu because the items on the 3-course meal were not listed on the a la carte menu. The food was good, but considerting the portions at Luce at the end I regretted not getting the 3-course meal for $36.95."

"We went to Luce to try their Dine About Town menu. The food quality was excellent, but the portions were really small ... so I'm not sure that all in all it was a good value. I also did not love the fact that it felt like we were eating in the lobby of a hotel."

"We entered the restaurant from the non-hotel side, and were unsure where the maitre d was; we approached one individual at a computer and he ignored us for about 20 seconds until telling us, "the hostess desk is over there, she'll be with you in a few minutes." Luckily we were seated shortly thereafter.
They brought out our amuse bouche, bread, and appetizers in a timely manner; that's when things started going downhill. After we'd finished our appetizer, we estimated it took them over 25 minutes to bring out our mains which were very small in portion size, as we were here for dine about town. After 10 minutes had passed after we'd finished our mains (with no sign of our server), we had to ask someone else to bring us dessert."
